Since nonnies have a hard time breaking down cholesterol and oils, are we supposed to be restricting them in our diet?
If a nonnie eats too many oily foods, what happens? |

Oil=bad news for this nonnie.
Lethargy. Bloatedness. Greasy skin. Weight gain. Atkins was a complete disaster for me (a fun disaster, though. Cheese-filled sausages and fatty foods galore!)

But aren't oils essential for our bodies?
If we're nonnies, doesn't that mean that we have to eat more oils, to compensate for what isn't being transported into our cells? |

Yes, oils are important. If your statement was correct then nonnies would need to eat more oils than secretors and that is not what Dr. D recommends. |

Hey, All
Thanks for the warm welcome.
Maybe fat IS important. I'm not sure oil is so important. It's concentrated and distilled, much like fruit juice.
If we can't break down the fat, where does it go? Feces? Urine? Skin, maybe? All dietary components need an exit.
Of course, I'm an AB non-secretor. Cursed be the uniqueness. Blessed be the uniqueness!

Let's at least stick with beneficial oils and pay close attention to our bodies as far as how much is too much. |

Hi folks,
oils and fats are extremely important, but they seem to be digested best if these are somehow complexed chemically or mixed thoroughly with something when eaten ... as an O, I tend to digest oils like ghee or olive oil when mixed with nutritional yeast and lecithin and/or raw onion. Fish oils are much easier to digest as part of the fish than as pills.
EPO(evening primrose oil) may be best as taken part of soaked evening primrose seeds or as part of the Budwig cream. Instead of just flax oil + quark maybe we can use a blend of oils [flax oil + EPO + quark] for B's and AB's ???? maybe |

MoDon,
So Dr. D recommends nonnies having LESS oils than secretors? I don't remember reading that anywhere... |

Look at the frequency values for oils in the books. |

It seems like the frequency tables are a good place to start. They've certainly helped me.
I'm curious as to recommendation variations. What's the difference, lets say, between an inactive 200 pound person versus an active 160 pound person? Could the difference be wide even within the same blood type and secretor status? Maybe Dr. D's new book will offer clues.
Ten years ago I read a book by Roger Williams about genetic variation. One of the charts showed the dramatic differences among individual stomach shapes. Maybe each of us is an unique case study?

Oh, I see now. Good eye.
But the problem I see, is that I've heard that having not enough oils, can cause problems with things like your digestion, your joints, and nerve functioning.
Are nonnies just supposed to put up with these things? |

Hey Ron - I love oil. Unfortunately, oil doesn't love me so much. If I want to maintain a decent weight I need to go low-fat. I do take 2.5 grams of EPA/DHA a day but have cut back on both olive oil and ghee. Bummer. |

What are some of the symptoms that you all have when the body says, "too much oil", ?. And...after what amount does it give you those signals? I am trying to cut down on my ghee and olive oil but still use way more than what I am suppose to be using. It would be helpful to understand what some of you are seeing or experiencing. |

...it almost sounds like nonnies were not supposed to be alive!
I used to enjoy lavish servings of extra virgin olive oil and realized that I had to cut back...I can't even tell you what symptom brought the change...
what should we put on our vegies and salads....what? |

I probably eat more than the recommended servings of fat/oils and have no problem with this... Most of my fat is eaten as food itself or complexed with other foods (meat, eggs, flax oil in my smoothie, nuts), so perhaps that is
Clearly an individualized thing. An ideally healthy digestive tract should be able to handle fat - bile is a key component for emulsification here, so inability to digest fats could indicate a congested gall bladder. Then there are lipase enzymes, which should be produced sufficiently in an ideal world...
Also, lecithin can help emulsify fats and reduce cholesterol. |

- Blood type diet with particular emphasis on establishing and maintaining good digestive health - Good type O non lifestyle (exercise, rest, balance blood sugar, strengthen immune system) - Reduce stress (hard on the liver, which produces bile) - Gallbladder/liver flushes to expel stones - Anti-candida diet if candida is possibly an issue - personally, I think it could benefit most nonnies (especially Os) to do a candida diet and anti-candida protocol at least once (meaning for at least a month or two) You're a naturopathic student, so you can go do some research if you want more ideas. |

Oh, and try supplementing with lecithin (I like it in my smoothies - makes them extra yummy) and ensure you get enough fibre (which can bind bile to prevent its recycling which in turn can help reduce cholesterol). |
