I just got my test results and Im an O non-secretor. I have been following the BTD for a few years and wanted to take it to the next level.
Is is just me or are there a lot less foods on the Beneficial list for O nonnies???
I had read in somebodys thread about the top 10 Benificials for O nonies but can't seem to find the link.
I've started going through the Food Values list on this site, but it will take me days to go through every food..so...anybody have ideas on the 10-15 best O Nonnie foods to eat. I'd really like to stay true to the diet as much s possible to see if I feel a difference. I'll slowly get through the list...unless somebody has the list already seperated or knows where I can git it???
Thanks and looking forward to joining the O nonnie team!
Amy

AmyH...welcome to the forum and great that you have been doing the BTD way of life for a few years. Yep...I know how you feel. I did my first two years as a secretor and once I got my nonnieness figured out it was like...okay...what can I eat now. Avocados darlin'...and mangos...and bananas...Wait!!...let me get my nonnie wallet card. You can pick one up through NAP for a few dollars and carry it wherever you go. It is great. Everyone slide over one seat...and I see you have met our royal greeter of the day Ron-O-Non and the royal nonnie queen Isa.

On the other side of the card is a whole slew of Avoids. Those you can check on typebase. Just remember...even more grains and sugars have become avoids. Like Ron-O-Non once said...'sugar is our poison'.
I hope this helps you out AmyH. Pick up a wallet card...it is so easy to carry around. Keep us posted on your progress. And...go and visit the nonnieland threads.

That was a great list, THANKS! I just ordered the pocket list from NAP to have handy...actually a few for every bag! I'm going to try to do my best. What I find the hardest is as "just basic O" those foods that were Nutural to secretors and are now Avoids for Nonnies...
Time...patientce....

Welcome to the table Amy. I see you have your Davey Crockett hat on!! You may find that you miss 1 or 2 things, but adjusting to being a nonnie is pretty easy...except for the soy milk and apple thing
Nonnies are a wonderful bunch, better than a walking encyclopedia!! I am not sure a question has been asked that they have not found an answer for!!
There are days when I look at my nonnie list and sigh, and pout, and I think back to the days of warm, stretchy cheese, brown bread, spaghetti dripping in tomato sauce....now I can't even eat sunflower seeds FOR PETE'S SAKE. But you know, I feel so much better now that I don't eat all those things, that it's worth the sacrifice. I made a list, once upon a time, of all my physical complaints. Nearly every single one of them is gone now. And for that I am very thankful.

Thanks, Lola! I hadn't thought of it that way! I thought the diet had achieved it for me. But no, I achieved it through the diet. Cool! Speaking of Davey Crocket, we're all "kings of the wild frontier!"

I am a bit unclear on debra+'s list. Are you looking only at beneficials? Food selections such as eggs are not avoids, but neutrals and quite convenient too when eating out.

Yes...Howard...it is only the beneficial list according to the wallet card. There were too many neutrals for me to start typing. That is why the wallet card comes in very handy. It only has beneficials and neutrals on it. Everything else is avoid or not tested.

If I had to guess I would be a nonnie -O. Every time I eat soy I get gas!!! I decided to go ahead and get the kit for secretor status, but the site keeps not letting me register. I guess I could call the toll free number. Does anyone know it?
Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. Blessings, meribelle

Essene bread is listed as a bennie (or neutral, can't recall) for o nonnies. But what about someone who has a gluten allergy? Will the gluten allergy disappear after adherence to the btd? And then I would be able to eat essene bread? I do awfully awful on carbs such as bread (even gluten free varieties); i get gassy and bloated and fatigued.... Can I expect the same if I eat the essene bread?
Anxiously awaiting my secretor test results, but I am 100% positive that I'm a non-secretor.

meribelle, The seed coat of wheat contains a lectin called Wheat Germ Agglutinin (WGA). They provoke the immune system to manufacture antibodies against them. Once WGA has made it into the blood stream (because it resists digestion), it mimics the effect of insulin on the insulin receptor of fat cells. The lectin binds to the fat cells and signal the cell to stop burning fat and to start storing extra calories as fat. Since WGL has already acted upon maltase to break down complex sugars into simple sugars, there are plenty of simple sugars to begin storing in the blood stream.

Some allergies/intolerances get better or worse after being on the BTD, but it takes some time (and maybe the addition of Deflect) to heal your body. After about a year on the BTD my husband could again eat dairy (beneficial for him as a B) and also eggs. I'm still trying to get him to try some grains he's supposed to be able to eat, but he's still afraid of gluten because of what it's done to him in the past. His body did heal enough, however, to be able to handle the dairy and eggs.
I say they may get "worse" because sometimes your body actually gets more sensitive because now you're not bombarding it with all these problem foods, and it can put more energy into "reacting" to the little problems you still feed it, that you didn't seem to have trouble with before. You're immune system gets suppressed and suddenly it has the strength to fight back. I didn't used to get very sick before the BTD. I'd get little things often, but not anything big. Now I don't get the little colds, but when I do get sick, very occasionally, I get EXTREMELY sick. My body now has the strength to fight.
