Knowledge is power. I always liked meat too much and was too bored by tofu to be a regular A. Turkey and lamb, yum, but like you said, coconut!! Remember, only one serving of grain a day and you will feel better. I usually feel sluggish if I eat it in the morning. Save it for your evening meal so you can have spelt tortillas and spelt or rye bread, or rice for dinner. I knew we had a connection in the magnesium thread! I recently bought some L-phenylalanine as discussed on another thread as good for nonnies and I do believe it perked me up and gave me more energy today! Welcome, Diane |

Not an A nonnie, but an O nonnie...one quick fix recipe I like to share is mashed bananas with either hard boiled eggs (mashed) or soft easy over eggs cooked in ghee and some walnuts, a dribble of EVOO. Mash and mix altogether. If you have some Harmonia...that makes it beneficial and extra yummilicious. Been throwing in a chopped avocado (for chunkiness) lately and does the trick of being filling for quite some time. A ripe mango works really well also. If you get adventuresome...you can through in sardines instead of the egg. Debra P.S. Does not necessarily have to be for breakfast. |

Tonight I had sweet onions sautéed in olive oil with zucchini and tomatoes (from my garden) seasoned with a clove of garlic, and herbs from my garden - basil, thyme and rosemary. I also made some sticky rice (just a Japanese short grain sushi rice) and had some leftover turkey. A plum for dessert, and a glass of red wine (beneficial!) to wash it down.
Do I feel deprived? No Way! |

Well, I have to watch the grains. They're OK in small amounts in the morning ala oat bran.
If I'm a nonnie, I'll be happy about tomatoes. Always used to enjoy New Jersey tomatoes when living in New York. There must be alot of nutrients in the soil in New Jersey. Absolutely delicious.
I have to look further into the secretor/non-secretor foods for Type A. Where did you look in the Typebase to get a specific listing?
Anyway, I'll find out soon.

You have to look foods up one at a time on the website because of copyright issues. If you want to see a non-secretor list then look at LR4YT or one of the other new books. |

Hi Joy! Like Don said, just look at the type base under a specific food and after you click on it, all the types come up and the secretor/non properties show. Very handy but the going back and forth takes time. I put the name of each food group on index/recipe card, along with an avoid, neutral and beneficial column, then clicked on the foods I know I'll eat to get their status--it's all at my fingertips, now! I'm really excited to be a nonnie, as you can tell! |

Hey Scout, I don't want to spoil your god temper but I must say that I'am not so glad to be a nonnie! Sorry . The thing is, we do have to look after ourselves very much more than the other "normal A's" We have more problems with our teeth. I more often do catch a cold and (of cause) I do get all the illnesses wich are around. If - I don't be very careful .So let me recommend Noni (Morinda Citrfolica) for a better immune system and as a shield especialy against cancer. Just take a Chi Gong training or Joga will be o.k. The BTD is quite different for nonnies. Take more albumen if you are overweight (I am) God luck for you and never mind I didn't want to bother you - just a short warning . All the best |

Don't be discouraged, Scout or Pen. I rarely catch anything. Maybe the BTD and homeopathics have strengthened my constitution. If I feel like I'm coming down with something, I may take homeopathic Bryonia, definitely BioAstin (astaxanthin) and up my C. I'm pretty compliant with the diet all the time. My main problem is fatigue if I eat out. Who knows what you are getting even if you think you are ordering compliant food. And it's very hard not to eat those chips at Mexican restaurants!!
I'm 52 years old and I have never been healthier. I've been on the nonsecretor diet at least 5 years. |

albumin as I know it is found in eggs (that's the white or clear part). What way do you suggest to eat more albumin Lola?
I found a product recently called "Just Whites" that are powdered egg whites. Anyone know how to use such a product?
==An interesting medical side note: Albumin is commonly tested in blood. It is viscous (think of the raw egg white) and helps to suspend nutrients in the bloodstream. |

Thanks so much for the concern! I'm one of those fortunate ones that never gets sick. Haven't had a full blown cold or flu in so long, I can't remember when. I just don't get colds, flus and sinus stuff. I'm 55 and haven't been to see my general MD for going on 2 years--haven't needed to. I did recently make an apptointment for basic bloodwork, etc. though and once in a while I have a sleepless night. My biggest problems are like I said above, an occasional sleepless night, a little constipation here and there and a some fleeting aches and pains. I'm truly blessed and I want to keep it that way! I used to eat *health food* back in the 70s. I had friends that ate that way. I feel like I'm coming full circle and I'm thrilled about it--can't get enough information! I love the internet--but I spend too much time on it. It's been raining here for a week so I don't feel as guilty Thansk for the welcome! I'm following (mostly) the Arnold Ehret plan for eliminating toxins from the body for a few weeks--(using compliant foods). Then, I'm going full bore on the A-Nonnie ER4YT eating plan. Arnold's plan doesn't call for meat, which is dificult but not as bad as I'd thought. It's called The Mucusless Diet--gross name but says it all. According to Arnold, animal products cause mucus in the system (not to mention turns it from alkaline to acid) (written years ago) makes sense to me. The jist is, that disease cannot exist in an alkaline system but runs rampant in an acid system. Fruits and veggies make the system alkaline, thereby the elimination part. Anyway, that's my story and you know the rest... It's a fast after around 6 pm till 10 or 11 am the next day. Lunch is a lettuce salad with a few fresh veggies, olive oil and fresh lemon juice and a healthy helping of fresh veggies that have been roasted or stewed with maybe some toast or ry krisp. Dinner is some fresh and stewed fruit, with either cottage cheese or mashed ripe banana. Sounds so plain--and it IS! But I'm adjusting to it and I feel pretty good! I have had a little meat and a little chocolate, though. I also drink prill water, decaf green tea, some coffee and an herbal calcium tea. Life is good as an A-Nonnie Now, if the sun would just come out....and I'd get my arse out in it! |

now you can take blood type into consideration and make it right. each blood type has its own catacteristic acid/alcaline issues. BTD is balancing in that respect. |

I'm happy to be a nonnie! When I thought I was a secretor, I was able to justify to myself why I could still eat avoids almost on a daily basis (as long as I was throwing in a lot of beneficials and neutrals). My idea of "following the BTD" allowed for quite a bit of lee-way, and . . well . . it wasn't working! Once I realized that I am a non-secretor and came to understand all the implications for myself, I opted for the 100% version of the BTD and never looked back. The only avoid I am aware of haven eaten in the past 6 years or so, is a tablespoonful of Creme Broulette at a big celebration dinner a couple of weeks ago! I am way healthier than I ever was in my life. Every aspect of my life has been improved, and it never ceases to amaze and delight me. |

I'm glad you are enjoying your diet. I wouldn't have it any other way myself. The A secretor diet in ER4YT did not fit until I read LR4YT shortly after I read ER. Interesting thing is according to the body type diet, the A nonnie diet is very close to the thyroid diet according to Carolyn Mein in terms of the best types of dense protein allowed. Interestingly though the thyroid body type profile fits me to a T. |

Scout - 4 lbs is grt. Grt work on the cleansing too. Tell us about Prill water. Victoria - me too. I was doing OK on the secretor plan, but being a nonnie is a heads up signal. It answers a lot of health issue questions for me - that made it easier to adjust and be different. I haven't been as compliant as you but I am getting better at it and my health has definately improving. Cap Jane - Was Carolyn Mein's book the 25 body types book? Interesting book. Zola - Coconut milk? Can we have coconut milk? And Mangos? Funny problem - Since I started out on the secretor plan and worked so hard to learn Bennie/Avoid list & then concentrated on learning the nonnie Bennie/Avoid list - there are foods I have been avoiding that must be on our neutral list. Daaaaa! More work. Hope we can keep this thread going. |

I use coconut milk occasionally to make a curry sauce (with simmered sweet potato chunks & steamed broccoli put in at the end of cooking) or in the mango smoothie with pineapple juice. Be sure to get the real stuff without additives - even 'natural' stuff has gums in it to thicken it. There are handy small single serve cans available. Try an asian market or the ethnic part of the supermarket. Fresh coconut is very alkaline (good esp. for A's). Crack open the coconut (take off the brown outer shell and peel the brown outer covering off. Tap the coconut and drain off the juice through one of the 3 natual holes in the end, saving the juice. Break it into chunks and send it through the food processor/shredder. to get "milk" mix the juice with the shredded meat and press it through a sieve. It is really good and the meat makes it sweet. (Overindulging in fresh coconut juice leads to diarrhea so beware.) You could even lightly simmer the juice and shredded meat together before pressing it to get more out of the shreds. I've made a fresh coconut pie 'crust' before with ground almonds and coconut oil. it was a no bake chocolate pie where the cream was make from avocado (also alkaline) mixed with melted dark chocolate. It was very rich but good - and made to share |

A- nonnie Yes! that sounds wonderful. Coconut - hum- I was so excited. But I still don't have any idea what all that stuff means. It's a no no for everyone but A nonnies BUT .................there is this problem.............. I had just returned from the HFS with "raw organic coconut butter". I read that there is a problem. Soooooo the jar sits on the counter unopened. I am a perfect example of an A. Totally insecure and easily derailed. O well life goes on. Ha , another A specialty - go with the flow. Right! I feel kinda nutty. But I do love my A program. wouldn't eat any other way. |

Many people use coconut oil on their skin and hair...do a Google search for coconut oil and see what you come up with! |

The reason there is a Nonnie Clubhouse is because Dr. D has stated something like that nonnies probably have more in common with each other then they do with their ABO secretor counterparts. Therefore, ABO specific nonnie clubhouses wouldn't serve nonnies trying to learn about their common traits. |

Very interesting. I'm nore interested in the food aspects of being an A-nonnie than anything else. I don't seem to fit most of the traits. |

A2 has a more challenging time with carbs and gets more animal protein, for example. |

That's what I thought, thanks. I was born a month premature in 1952--almost died because of the RH factor--white blood count went way down, etc. I was taken to the Children's Hospital in Seattle by my doctor's nurse, in his car, where my life was saved. But baby, look at me now!!!!!! I grew up to be 5' 8" tall and pretty darned healthy, too! |

This an interesting reaction to Rh sensitization, Scout. Most newborns with Rh disease present with severe anemia, and jaundice due to the increased destruction of the red blood cells. They will frequently require transfusion of O negative red blood cells to completely dilute out the offending Rh antibody, which comes from the mother who has been sensitized with Rh positive blood as a result of previous pregnancy or transfusion. Fortunately we have Rh immune globulin better known as Rhogam to prevent Rh sensitization in Rh negative women. |
