Cod liver oil is an avoid for O non-secretors. I'm looking for sources of Vitamin D that fit with the guidelines for O non-secretors.

But it really depends were you live...... In Denmark(56 00 N) we only get sufficient daylight to produce vitamin D in the months: ( May) June and ( July ) it depends on who you ask...... And it says 30 min without clothes on the top half of your body at least 3 times a week in the high summer..... Can just imagine the look at people if i go out this way now |

sun studios are popular in those parts of the world for that very reason.
do the pros counteract the cons there? |

I find that for myself and the kiddies I watch that all of our moods are much better once we have been outside in the fresh air...no matter for however long. And...they eat and sleep much better. Debra |

If it's any help, this sensitive O nonnie has no adverse reaction to regular ol' vitamin D. It's such a tiny pill, even at the large dose I'm taking. Cod liver oil has vitamin A as well, which you don't want to get too much of.
You can get some from your diet, but during the winter you need more, especially if you avoid fortified milk. |

I'm with you, Debra. My children and I are much happier if we go outside for at least an hour in the afternoons. I used to think my blood sugar was dropping in the afternoons because I'd get tired and grouchy. My mother said I've always been that way during the winter. "Oh!" Didn't realize that, so I started going outside to sit for a while in the sun and lo and behold, I didn't need the blood sugar boosting snack. |

Sunshine is definetely the way to go - here in sunny Australia you don't find Vit D lack. But I do have a similar problem with calcium and iron deficit from blood tests to the point of anemia. Find it difficult since stopping dairy ..... |

I tried this once but it didn't work out very well. Was doing only a third of the maximum time and got a burning sensation on some skin areas. Talked to a woman where I work and she said she got up to full time but her skin would not tan at all. The main complaint on these units seems to be overexposure. People starting too young and getting too much exposure therefore a high risk of skin Cancer. Also the radiation is 'tanning' but not really sunlight. Anyhow where I live there is about 17 hours of sun per day (end of June) so getting exposure is not a problem. Figure that the fact that Vit D is stored and taking a Vit D tablet every few days covers the ground. |

I've been learning of the connection between wheat and anemia. (Try to find books titled Going Against The Grain and Dangerous Grains!. In them, they talk about the elimination of gluten grains & corn from the diet, and the resolution of anemia problems and a host of other things. I wouldn't listen or care if I hadn't experienced a lot of it myself as an O-nonnie. Best of luck and welcome. |

Thank you OSuzanna for your welcome and I'll certainly look into those books.
Am taking 100mg of elemental iron each morning and trying to get calcium in at lunch & dinner as I believe calcium will bind with iron and not be absorbed if taken together - did you find this? And also I've been anemic many times in the past but this time I have not had the wheat but still it happened thought it was too much dairy so cut it right out & took calc. tabs but became calcium deficient as well!!

Was taking a combo called Total Calcium for Women by Blackmores it has 3 different active calciums: Calcium citrate 63mg; calc. phosphate 125mg; calc. amino acid chelate 40mg = total equiv. elemental calc of 229mg. It also had magnesium phosphate 13.4mg; mag. oxide 102.5mg = total equiv. elemental magnesium 115.9mg. It also had zinc, manganese vit. K, vit D, vit C & folic acid. Was taking 2 tabs at night for quite a while. as I had a previous low calc reading in blood tests. Have now just switched to Blackmores Bio Calcium which contains calcium phosphate 570mg & calcium hydrogen phosphate 600mg plus vit D3 100IU - these are in a chewable form with natural peppermint flavour. I try to take 3 a day (1 at lunch, 2 at dinner) |

I rather not take either chewable or with any kind of 'natural flavor'....... I just plain don t trust those unknown ingredients, but that s just me. |
