what to do?   my teeth are so yellow….I had them whitened at the dentist once but it didn't last and I don't want to pay for that again... plus it's not healthy.
I drink red wine, coffee, black tea, and the dentist said the worst is black tea! The tannins. So I switched to white tea this morning and I may switch to white wine…..I brush every other day or so with a peroxide brushing rinse……any tips?

Some dental professionals claim that hydrogen peroxide (standard 3% from store) is too strong and damages the gum tissue, so should be cut in half at least...

Is it possible that you are continually stressing your mouth with the rinses such that it never gets a chance to heal completely and the result is that your teeth are yellowed, rather than being as white as they might otherwise be?

Or are your teeth just naturally more yellow, and it is just something you have to accept?

rinse your mouth often with a sea salt / filtered water solution about 1 teaspoon per 250 ml. before and after using your hydrogen peroxide paste. but then stray teeth with a 3 hydrogen peroxide solution on the morning after cleaning teeth.

eat more compliantly

I've heard oil pulling whitens teeth, but I don't do it regularly enough to find out.

I mix a little bit of activated charcoal into my toothpaste. My dental hygenist thinks it's a great idea!

The toothpaste I use comes in a jar - Uncle Harry's - love it! - so it's easy to mix in. I have a jar that I use most of the time and a separate jar with the charcoal mixed in that I use "as needed".

This is me:

Yes, brushing with activated charcoal worked for me too. I had been using a lot of cilantro which I think caused a heavy metal detox. When I blew my nose I had a strong metallic smell and started to get black stains between my teeth and my toothbrush smelled metallic as well. The only thing that worked was brushing with activated charcoal. I opened up capsules of activated charcoal and dumped the powder into an empty glass spice jar with a flip top lid so it is easy to shake some onto my toothbrush.

Karen, I'm glad you mentioned this about the heavy metals and black stains on your teeth. I went through a period a few years ago when I was horrified to see black stains actually deposited between my teeth and when I examined more closely, the backs were covered with the horrible stuff! My hygienist and I tried our best to figure out anything that may have caused such a condition, but we could not come up with a single thing. This went on through two six month cleanings. Then, out of the blue it disappeared completely. Thankfully! You can imagine how happy my hygienist was. For one thing, it took her about half the time to clean my teeth!

If that ever happens to me again, I hope I can remember your remedy!

Why not try giving up the avoids: coffee, black tea.  White wine is an avoid also for blood type O.  Try that and see if that works for you.

I HAVE THIS SAME QUESTION, TOO! I used a hemp oil vape for about a month and it has stained my teeth as ugly brown as proably unfiltered cigarettes would do. The co. I bought it from says "no reports of staining have ever occurred" and I fired back "well this is going to be the first one - I'll send pictures to back it up." But now I feel about as psychologically fine and calmed down NOT smoking the hemp vape as I was when I DID. I wear a negative ion pendant.

I have tried smokers non abrasive toothpaste but nothing takes the stains off. I am afraid to smile. It's so ugly I made sure to check it against photos of root decay in the tooth but it's not like that. I brush floss and rinse each night with some non-alcoholic blue liquid. I drink green and white tea. Like I always have before this happened.

My teeth are prone to be 'less than white' also.

One of the first things I did was to switch from toothpastes to tooth powders and tooth soaps.  My standby is EcoDent powder and I switch it off or mix it with Uncle Harry's powders and tooth soaps.  Those get the teeth way cleaner.  Baking soda and salt are the basics of most tooth powders.  I used to just use those two things from my kitchen, but they can be a little too abrasive.  That's why I use the brands I mentioned.  They are more finely powdered or something, so they remove stains very well without being rough.

One of my favorite additions to dental care is oil pulling, as KimonoKat mentioned.  I put a rounded tsp of good quality coconut oil (unrefined, organic, cold-pressed) in my mouth and gently swish for 15 minutes or so, first thing in the morning and then spit out. Then I slosh well with Uncle Harry's Mouthwash diluted by 3 parts water, gargle and spit.

I started doing oil pulling to improve the health of my gums and that has worked very well.  But a nice side effect was the removal of the stain film.  I talked with my dentist about it and we both agreed it was because oil is a solvent and dissolves the biofilm that bacteria create.  It also dissolves build-up of food stains.  It's not a bleach, so it doesn't make teeth any whiter than they naturally are, but it will help bring them back to their natural color (pre-stain).

Reading Spring's above post reminded me of an incident a few years ago when I developed horrific black stains from a mouthwash. It was a sample of something I'd received in my little goody-bag from the dentist. It scared me half to death - it was disgusting. As soon as I stopped the mouthwash it went away, but yeah, my dentist was really puzzled...

When I had the "black teeth syndrome" I was not drinking anything but water and hadn't for years. I was not cheating on my diet, either. So it was a mystery, to say the least. Detoxing may very well have been the cause of it. Come to think of it, I had a wisdom tooth that was beginning to bother me, but there was no sign of decay whatsoever, but it was sensitive. When I had my super, duper four-year X-rays done, though, they saw that the tooth was deteriorating on the inside. Who knows, that may have been the cause of the black teeth!
