I started a 30 day grain free trial and am now Day 4. Will monitor how things go and decide later if I wish to bring back any grains, incl the gluten-free ones.
As wish to help strengthen neuro-endocrine system, and increase assimilation of nutrients, I suspected the grains were causing problems including to my immune system, and dental health. Also wish to build muscle in time.
If anyone is doing the same, send me a message and let me know how you went or are going.
Most people feel better with this approach especially if they have become insulin or starch resistant. and I now know this can then go on to affect other glands like thyroid, liver, and adrenals. Metabolism is slowly speeding up, but I think it will take quite a lot of time.  I remember when I was about 29, I thought I had some hypoglycaemia problem, yet medical doctors just rely on tests, and this is not helpful at all, as the problem worsens over time, until glands shrink and barely function.

Aussielady, Good work! I will be watching to see how this goes for you. For me, grain free is fine, I don't seem to need them, but there is this craving that drives me back to them for quick energy. My weakness, but I go grain free sporadically and would like to make it longterm.

It's the same for me. I'll go for a few weeks grain free and then I'll end up going back for a few days. I feel better without them.

I love brown rice, but don't always keep it in the house, as I may eat too much. I still have some carbs & often use brown rice flour to make some gravies, etc.
Recently, I bought a 10#? bag, but haven't opened it yet!  With the cold weather, I plan to eat more of it eventually.
I think I am one of those who does best on the average of one portion of starch a day. Some Os need more & others are grain-free girls (there must be a thread somewhere about that!).

Best wishes on this project. I am sure you will feel so much better after the month ends.

amyflood, I use stevia (wisely) for that hit. It's good in tea, or sprinkled on some things. Use common sense as to what it will work with, its not sugar.

Thankyou, all - for your comments/suggestions.
I'm now Day 6 and am doing fine, lost a lttle weight (I am actually underweight) but this could also be due to the increase of excercise as well.  It's a fine balance trying to get enough rest/relaxation for tired adrenal glands, and more for other glands like pancreas/liver and to increase metabolic rate.
A heavy grain based diet with sugars/sweeteners/grains/lactose has probably done quite a bit of damage - as have other non-food factors, but I believe things can improve, even if slowly.
I was still enjoying some grains like rice, but noticed reactions, just wasn't sure if it was the grains. With a weak pancreas, most grains/legumes just turn to sugar and ferment internally especially if metabolism is very low as was proven earlier this year when I arranged for a hair analysis to see what was happening in my cells. This may have caused nutrient deficiencies as essential nutrients were not able to be absorbed. I underestimated the amount of exercise I really need, 3 to 4 hrs of intensive walking/jogging works much better, most of our ancestory were very active, out hunting for food and shelter.
I also want to honour my aboriginal ancestors too (I have Greek/European genes as well), as they did just fine on fish, red meat, poultry, green herbs and veg, some root veg, nuts/seeds, fat, low gi fruit some days if they could find some berries or an organic apple in season. They were fit, strong, lean - no need for any grain or legume, or soy.
Two meals which I reacted positively during the last week were duck and steamed broccoli, and another night I made chicken soup with low gi veg (turnip, spinach). Fish works well, so does lamb chops.
The extra exercise is helping my liver and generally, so I seem to now be better with eggs and cream (I love some cream on berries with ground cinnamon and aniseed powder). no sweeteners needed at all!  low gi fruit only for me for now.
I am training my taste buds not to want or depend on sweet foods. this also involves strong healthy endocrine glands.
Will keep in touch with you.
