Months before I read the Blood Type Diet books, I read an Orthomolecular book  stating that  Blood Type A's have the largest percentange of mental illness. One type of anxiety disorder caused by Pyroluria (which is a blood disorder) causes zinc and b6 to be flushed out of the body. I have been on this protocol for the last 2 1/2 months with huge success. Interestingly, this lead me to someone called Dr. Deitrich Klinghardt who said that most people who have Lyme disease also have Pyroluria !

Upon reading The Live Right for your Blood Type book, I thought it was fascinating how Dr. D'Adamo's supplementation plan was very similar both to the Pyroluria and Lyme Disease protocols, not to mention that D'Adamo mentions that Type A's have the weakest immune system leading to infections.

Is it fair to surmise that Pyroluria, which is a 'blood disorder', is really just  Blood Type A 's genetic makeup?

I know of a few O's who have pyroluria - me included. I don't think it's specific to A's. It's so easy to manage with zinc, b6. I find that I can't take even DHA fish oil although it's meant to be ok - does my head in within 4 or 5 days the way regular fish oil does.
Staying away from copper (chocolate anyone?) is tough at times too..,

Wow, thanks, Weekender, I appreciate you busting up my theory on that !

What kind of effects does DHA Fish oil do to you -- I don't quite understand?

Hi Candace

When I take fish oil, or just a DHA supplement, I get very non-specific anxiety and generally feeling NQR. Similar feeling to when I don't take my zinc and b6 for a few days....

Thankyou Lola, for providing a link to a Pyrolouria thread -  Was highly interesting !
I was surprised to read that most people took very low doses of zinc and b6 compared to me.
I take 150mg a day of zinc, and 600mg of B6 a day, along with a multitude of others, also in higher doses. I was pretty sick though, close to death. Think I had Lyme's as well, as I had fungal keratitis in 2007 and could never recover since then. I have had my serum zinc and copper levels tested and all is still ok with the dosage. I've been supplementing with Ocean's Alive Marine Phytoplankton and E3Live so that I don't get depleted of other minerals.

Weekender, do you know why you get anxiety when taking fish oil? I have never heard of that?
I'd love to know...      Btw, how much zinc and b6 are you taking?

Anxiety is one of the main pyroluric symptoms that I experience.

The reason fish oil is bad for those with pyroluria is because of a defect with the enzyme delta 6 desaturase. Delta-6 desaturase deficiency prevents the conversion of cis-linoleic acid (a type of omega-6) to gamma-linolenic acid (another type of omega-6). So taking fish oil blocks the absorption of gamma linolenic acid (GLA).

This makes a pyroluric low in PGE1 - a type of prostaglandin - one of the useful ones. It is responsible for a kind of permanent PMS for me. Low PGE1 is also associated with allergies.
Low B6 can make you sensitive to sunlight, ie you burn or blister and can't tan.

It's better to supplememt with GLA (evening primrose oil for example) than with fish oil if you have pyroluria. Also to avoid any supplement that contains copper.

At the moment I'm taking 50mg zinc per day, 25mg activated b6 x3 per day. I find the activated b6 to be much better and I don't have to take so much of it, and spread across the day is better. When I get a cold I take heaps more zinc otherwise I get white spots on my nails.
As soon as I eat too much fish (salmon 3 days in a row) or take fish oil, without boosting up my GLA then... well it's no good for me so I don't do it. I would need to take 10 times the amount of zinc and b6 and I still probably wouldn't be able to leave the house!

Is that why I don't like fish????

The power of iron, P5P B6, regular B6, curcumin, and zinc are working something on me.
