Does untreated leaky gut put one at risk for small intestine blockage?

I read that Chrohn's Disease can cause small intestine blockage.

Looking forward to your comments.

While I haven't seen any study written about this, I would suggest that it may be true.  The mechanism I can see for this is that leaky gut indicates intestinal damage, which can be painful.  Given enough pain, the body cam cause muscles to contract (or spasm) to restrict irritation.  If the contraction causes the intestine to squeeze tight, a blockage can occur.  I think this has happened to me at various times and I have had to massage the abdomen to relax the spasm...

Hope this helps.

by all means, adapt the guidelines.......a lectin free approach like this and adding the highly beneficials is the best way to heal the gut by far

safe and right

Yes to all the above..

IF you are not eating at least Beneficial foods only for three month, I would expect no real hope of getting better.  Eating super beneficials is giving your body the support it needs.

Giving up all the other foods at least for a long while will be good and then add ONE neutral food at a time for three days, to see how you react will make a world of difference..

NO bought foods, no packaged foods no matter what they say, and I would advise : stay away from chicken? do turkey instead, and add olive oil liberally every time you eat..

I might stay away from nuts with skins and almonds for now.. do watermelon seeds well chewed, or make a nut paste by mashing them.. .. I would peel walnuts, and I would not eat fruit or berries that have nuts in them, and maybe go so far as not eat any fresh lettuce for a month, and maybe if possible blanch all vegetables meaning steam them just a little..

I might do little if any alcohol for 3 month, and stop smoking...

Welcome / good luck.

Don't eat lettuce? Romaine lettuce is good for me. Please explain.

Thank you.

Also, I thank all for your responses.

My father, age 82-1/2 had half of his small intestines removed due to a blockage.

Lettuce seems to dry out my stool.. make it harder to go.. (sorry) and in Diverticulitis it is a no no as it settles into 'pockets' in the large intestines..

for small intestines, I would just try to slightly steam all veggies.. including leafy ones for a month .. eating one for each day and see which one is giving you grief..

the questions I would have..
what is IRRITATING ? WHY?
Why does your stomach not digest well enough, what of the gallbladder or liver, why are they not taking care of..

I might give a table spoon of extra light Olive oil every day a try to lubricate all parts..

what of the Large intestines?? are they functioning ?

For the healing of nerves you might read

http://www.dadamo.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1338555366/s-18/#num18  interesting observations that might apply..

or read and do the testing.. it might reveal how you react to things and set your patterns on a different healing path..

I pm'd you..

I think bowel issues are 99% nerves..

I think that it is important to check that nothing is wrong and then heal the gut with Beneficials and Super foods (eaten as medicine)  .. all the rest will be taken care of in time.  Older people and young uneducated in therms of food (not like us here )   will never see the connection that food can be bad for you, when you have eaten those things all your life..

Food education is what is needed when the intestines are not working optimally..

and by all means stop straining when going to the bathroom.. I think that is one of the other really bad things to do, habit is not enough.. cleaning out by finger probe or even low enemas is a must, as the straining can cause all kinds of backup and stress and leave the food festering inside..

Goldie and readers,

One naturopathic doctor instructed me to take Slippery Elm for excess gas from a bowel pocket problem.

Raw lettuce can sometimes give me loose stools with urgency. I don't think it "dries out the stools" in everybody.

Blood)_GenoHunter- do you currently have any health problems? I'm trying to figure out if you're basically healthy but worried about having the health problems your  father did, or if you're currently facing GI issues.

Any one of Dr D's diets (blood type diet, genotype diet, or SWAMI) is excellent for prevention. If you're currently facing health problems, you may need to temporarily eat differently. Things like "eating only cooked vegetables, no raw veggies" don't matter for healthy people trying to prevent problems, but may be helpful if you're currently facing GI issues.

I hear Gastro D is pretty effective.  I'm going to try it soon myself as I'm also suffering from leaky gut syndrome.

it forms mucilage to protect, soothe, and heal the stomach lining.

typical dosage:  3-6 cups of tea per day. (1-2 teaspoons of dried bark to 1 cup of hot water for 10min. or overnight in cold water.

1/4 to 1 tps. of tincture or glycerite 3 to 4X per day.

it might do the same for for you throat.
