In the book under the portions for type O in meat and poultry and fish for example it says to increase by 1-2 servings weekly. Why is this? Does negative blood need extra nutrients or something? |

More protein and less carbohydrate... I've noticed in some of the grain tables that they are reduced for Rh(-) as well... |

Rh- is more of an indicator for different genetics. The correlation to non-secretor is very strong. However it may not mean anything. I'm A- and a secreter. My father is A- but I would nearly guarantee nonnie status.
Nonnies may do better with a bit more meat and less carbohydrates. They have a little less IAP, and because the antigen of their blood is in much lower amounts in the intestines, some things interact differently.
I wouldn't get over concerned about portions. You may find you want to try lower or grain free at some point. I would suggest being more interested in trying it if you knew you where a non-secretor, but until then I wouldn't worry on it.
What you should do is start eating lamb! |

Thanks that was helpful. I'm planning on getting a local CSA soon. Grass fed lamb included. I've never had it. |

Everyone is different. There are countless hunters living on mostly carbohydrates, but they certainly do not all have the body and mind they could. |

Another O neg here Rachael D. I do best on low grain, not necessarily low carb. My SWAMI gives me 1/4 cup of cooked grain a day. I rarely eat that. I make my carbs Superfoods, if at all possible. If I don't get a sweet potato once a day I do get a bit craving. Hope this helps you. Don't forget the grass fed |

Rachel, Brinyskysail and DoS are right! Grass fed Lamb! So wonderfully good for those who have it as a superfood! The O's and a few B's in my life..even an A- friend, do soooo well with lamb. Over 16 years ago, when I did eat meat, I loved lamb. |

I tried the low carb and ate more more protein & veggies for a week and I was so tired all the time. When I added 2 servings of compliant grains back into my diet, I bounced right back. Like you say, everyone is different |

Like I've mentioned before, dairy and wheat seem really bad for me. I get mucus in my throat that I have to keep clearing. Plus I have major mood swings if I eat them. Not fun. I'm curious about secretor status but I'm going to wait on that for a little while. I think I'm going to tweak my portions just a bit. Less grains and dairy and more meat and fish. I really need to work on getting more vegetables in my diet, I mostly ate corn and mashed potatoes when I was younger because my older brother told me vegetables were gross. I have gotten used to broccoli, peas, and spinach and enjoying trying new things so I'm on my way. |

Rachel, I don't know if this will help but the O's in my life, whether Rh+ or Rh-, all do poorly with corn wheat and excessive dairy. Their symptoms range from grumpiness, lack of energy, aggravating arthritis to sneezing, coughing and blowing/spitting mucus! My Dad is O- and my DH is O+ and neither of them can tolerate ice cream even though they love it and keep trying to eat it! The wheat and corn really seems to upset arthritis. Our youngest son is an O and eats frozen yogurt. He knows it makes his nose run and he coughs! My best friend is O+ and knows that wheat makes her have mucus ( my DH, too) and makes her lethargic but..... they all battle with those issues! I cannot judge as I should never eat wheat or cow dairy and I really try to totally avoid them but....sometimes I need to re learn my lessons. |

When I was younger ice cream used to make me cough and I couldn't understand why. I thought it was from the cold. The O men in my house eat lots of junk and feel bad. I'm hoping I can set a good example. |

StarPine, you are lucky that you don't like ice cream! And you can make compliant pie. I have ice cream occasionally, and I mean like rarely, just once in a blue moon as a special treat - there is a gelato place that I like - and it does not make me feel sick, but it does make me have extra mucus. I seem to be able to tolerate a wee bit of dairy (also a sliver of cheese now and then). I cannot tolerate wheat or corn at all. They make me feel sick as a dog. |

Cajun- Since you mentioned corn, I wonder if I'm allergic to it, even though it is on my Swami neutral list. After lunch today, consisting of fish (perch) baked in olive oil and lime juice, and cold canned beets, and canned corn, I got really congested and started coughing up flem. I told my husband that it had to either be the fish (a diamond on my Swami, even though I hate fish), or the corn. I am an A-. My youngest daughter tested positive for allergy to corn when she was young. I wonder. |

There is only one way to find out for sure... Leave it out of your diet for a month. It is difficult to get everything corn out of the diet, but it is the only way I could start healing. It is an avoid for me, so it is permanently gone from my diet, and I say, "Good riddance!" |

The only avoid that I've eaten that makes me feel ill, break out terribly & get swollen knuckles is safflower oil. Luckily I can get away with moderate amounts of corn and wheat (if i have to eat them) |

ABJoe - I'll say it's HARD to get away from corn. When my daughter was young I researched all the things that contained products from corn because of her allergies. Even corn starch to keep paper plates from sticking together. I'll have to see if I still have the list anywhere. It was amazing, like the hidden sources of gluten. I'm going to make the effort and see if avoidance of corn will help, even popcorn, which is also on my Swami neutral list. As a side note, I have a HUGE purple bruise on the side of my tongue from accidently biting my tongue while eating popcorn two nights ago. Bummer. |

Were there any other additives in the canned beets or canned corn? Yes, it's definitely possible that corn is the culprit, but it's also possible you're reacting to something else in the meal. |

DL, Corn is a neutral on my swami also but I try to avoid it. It does cause phlegm for me and indigestion for my O guys. I cook for the O's in my house so they all eat (at least dinner) BTD/GTD ...like it or not! Lets just say they don't complain. I never told them ( a very long time ago) when I switched out wheat pasta for quinoa or ground beef for turkey. I make meals we all can eat..adding meat for them or subtracting meat for me. They don't even ask why they no longer get corn as a side veggie. They know I love them and want the best for all of us, that I follow my swami, and that I buy the groceries and cook, so.... Oh..popcorn! I used to think it was the oil/butter, etc. I stopped eating popcorn and eat butter once in awhile....no problem. I tried some air popped popcorn recently.. .phlegm! |

Oh dear! Do you think the Rh- has anything to do with it?...you know, like nonnies are more sensitive than secretors. hmmmm... just wondering When I think about the foods that bother me, most of them are the same ones that bother my O- Dad. My A+ Mom doesn't do well with citrus. I love citrus and it loves me.. My mom gives me the lemons from her ever- yielding Meyer lemon tree and I so appreciate it as I drink lemon water every morning!(lemons, limes and grapefruit are supers and diamonds on my swami) OinV, What do you eat for "crunch"? |
