My daughter has been sick with a fever so I gave her extra Vitamin D and C.

I had this bottle left over, Vitamin C rose hips:

Now I realize it is Vitamin C WITH ROSEHIPS. So is the Vitamin C corn-derived? Is it a big deal? If so, can you please recommend a bottle that is not.

I believe it has corn in it. I just looked at the specs for the product and where it says 'free of' and gives a list of allergens, corn is not mentioned and so it must be corn derived. All other allergens are mentioned ie: gluten, peanut etc.

I had the same problem with a solgar product - not sure if it is corn based but it says with rosehip as opposed to from rosehip.

I would still use it perhaps on your self and get another one or would proberry help.

how old is your daughter and how much does she weigh? if she is little polyvite might be enough if taken regularly and adequate access to sunlight without sunscreen would be a good idea, although i read somewhere that vitamin d levels are not reliable in youngsters.

Some say to starve a fever is best.

so unless vitamin C derived of corn is not the same as free of corn we are okay, although i only use these supps if there is not an equivalent one made my Dr D.

What about the pure rose hips one that I posted? Does it contain C?

I buy loose rose hips in the health food store and drink them as tea (eating the softened rose hips along with drinking the liquid.) I'm not sure how much vitamin C is in a teaspoon of rosehips, but I generally drink one teaspoonful per day, and one teaspoonful several times a day when I'm sick or starting to get sick.

Is it bad if I continue to give my family this vitamin C? We are all O's. Should I just go ahead and finish the bottle, or should I just leave the bottle alone? I don't want those lectins to destroy our digestive tracts, but will take it if the consequences are negligible. What about my daughter?

If it were me, I'd finish up the bottle and then buy something better next time.

I don't use anything like that for my daughter she only gets Dr D products ONLY.

I use others if there is no Dr D equivalent - but try to heed his advice .e,e not corn derived and from rose hip, occasionally o make a mistake. if its and expensive one i use the thing myself only. i try not to throw anything away.

do you have an idea what is casuing the fever? is she tender anywhere, does she have any other symptoms?

rest and water. but don't lie in bed all day move about a bit occasionally.

It is derived from cassava.  It does say that one process in the extraction of the vitamin C involves corn alcohol, but it is "generally well tolerated by corn allergic individuals".  I've been looking for corn free vit C forever; I just received this in the mail and haven't even tried it yet so I can't provide any personal experience.  Good luck

yeah you gotta watch the crafty little *******, as they get more confident they get bolder with there marketing until eventually someone catches them out. which is why i stick with Dr D.

I had a running battle with a company regarding MSG which they eventually lost.

Be wary of vitacost... They may have snuck on your credit card with a savings club monthly cost.

I use Tru C by the NOW company.  It is Amla berries.  One capsule = 200 mg vitamin C.

Rose Hips are very healthy and have vitamin C, as well as bioflavonoids.  But the actual vitamin C content is not very high, unless you purchase something like rose hips concentrate.

Yes. But they did not tell you how much because it is so small. Probably just a few milligrams per tablet.

Camu powder is generally high in vitamin C.  The one I currently use to add to my smoothie has 400 mg. vitamin C per 1/2 tsp of camu.

and although this off topic, I'd like to mention corn derived magnesium citrate which is in some of the NAP formulas.  Anything that says "citrate" is corn.

Natural calm, a magnesium supplement, has magnesium citrate.

I called them a couple of months ago. They told me their citrate was from non-GMO beets.

NAP probably has it from beets as well. Not sure.

Lectins are everywhere. Hard to avoid them.

I would return the Vit C.

Get amla or something. I have never found a compliant rosehip or acerola vitamin C. I think NAP makes the only one.

Now I'm feeling doubtful about the CALM. I called then two months ago myself and they told me it was corn and that they were hoping to find a new manufacturer and that they would then use the beet derived stuff. Hmmm!?

My bottle says non-GM.

I would not be surprised though.
