Hi, I'm a newbie here, and my hubby and I just did the secretor test. We both discovered that we are Non-Secretors. Since we are both non-secretors, that makes our son a non-secretor.  We are a family of Type A Nonnies. The only difference I know of is that I am Rh- and the guys are Rh+.

All that said, there are a number of beneficial or neutral Type A foods that we cannot eat. Has there been any information posted any where as to whether or not this will eventually change while adhering to the diet? I'm assuming we're not encouraged to eat things we will react too, but it doesn't make much sense to me that we would be sensitive (blood test results) or allergic (skin test results) to foods that we should technically be able to eat. Does anyone have any info on this or can refer me to a source?

heal your gut first, all falls nicely into place then if compliant

avoid those foods giving you trouble for now, but do avoid those avoid foods in your list

Allergy or sensitivity reactions may change as you remove other toxins from the body.  With all of the toxins present, the body be overloaded and reacting to many things that it will not react to once the toxin load is reduced and the digestive tract and filtering systems heal.

I don't have anywhere to point you to for substantiation, as it is personal experience...

Our bodies are unique. The Blood Type Diet is only a starting point; it's 8 different diets (4 blood groups times 2 secretor variations) when there are millions of people in the world. All of us have our own "ideal diet" that varies slightly even from others with the same blood type and similar physical characteristics.

After writing the Blood Type Diet  books, Dr D went on to discover the Genotype Diet- a different system for figuring out who should eat what. That system contains 6 Genotypes;  blood type is one factor in determining genotype, but not the only one. Then, from there, Dr D created the SWAMI software. You enter a lot of information about yourself into the software and it computes a diet just for you, that combines Blood Type Diet and Genotype Diet characteristics for each individual. Some people find that even their individualized SWAMI diets need to be tweaked. Its' a complex software program but the human body is even more complex.

Some of the foods you can't tolerate from the A diet might be foods that would be an avoid for you in the Genotype diet and/or on SWAMI.

Since you're newbies here, I understand that you may not be ready to make any further changes to your diet. Just getting used to the Blood Type Diet is an adjustment all by itself! And that's OK. The BTD is a wonderful diet, and is likely to bring you to greater health than you experienced before.

All you really need to know is that there ARE more options available, in the future, if you want to further refine your diets some day. Also realize that by personalizing the BTD from the book, by avoiding your known allergens, you're doing the same thing Dr D has been doing- tailoring the diet to each individual. The diets in the book aren't set in stone, and it's fine to make adjustments.

In the blood type diet food ratings are determined to a large extent by whether a food contains substances that would agglutinate the blood.

An allergy is primarily based on whether a food contains substances that trigger the immune system to produce antibodies.


Since these are two different types of reactions it is possible for a food that does not cause your blood to agglutinate still triggers an immune response.

As your body becomes healthier from following the blood type diet the immune system may calm down and not react as strongly to substances that it currently reacts to (As ABJoe indicates above). This happens sometimes, but not always.

ditto to Abjoe and C sharp. i used to have allergic reactions to coffee so much my noise etches and stuff like that its so strong that its embarrassing if i drank coffee in public lool now i'd give it a 4 as oppose to my reactions before (10). same with egg yolks but not as much, now i DONT have any reactions to it.

Wow, I really appreciate all of the helpful replies! Very interesting!

About the Genotype diet, I am not very familiar with it, but I was interested in the BTD because my brother and sister-in-law had success with it, and because my hubby and I followed it in part while on the Body Ecology diet (the meat portion). Anyway, our personal experiences seem to correlate to a degree with what the BTD says, and it seems to be based on actual tangible evidence that can be measured (lectins, etc.). The Genotype diet didn't seem to be very scientific to me (primarily based on characteristics--nothing measurable), but then again, I know very little about it and have only read minimal information. If someone who understands where I am coming from can educate me further, I would be grateful in case I am missing something.

Some people do better with BTD, some with GTD, most with swami.  Each one is more personalized (specific) than the previous.  With BTD there are only 4 different diets.  Not everyone with blood type A is going to respond great to every "type A food".  GTD has 6 different diets so it's a little more specific.  For example I'm a type A, but I do horribly on a vegetarian diet, I have issues with some of the Type A foods, and the Type A diet just doesn't work for me.  By following GTD, I'm an Explorer and am thus allowed a lot more meat.  Swami is personalized for each individual - no two people have the same swami diet (or at least it's not likely) so by taking into account your blood type, physical characteristics, and medical history (including your family's medical history) you get a customized diet specific for you.  BTD is a good place to start, but if you don't get the results you're looking for, one of the other diets may be a better fit for you, especially considering that you are non-secretors.  (you are a nonnie, right?  You said you are, but you're avatar says secretor)

OK, I updated my avatar as I am an A- Nonnie, but I don't know what the A1 and A2 means. I couldn't select just Type A, Non, and Rh-.  

Thanks for the info on the GTD. That is helpful. I guess I will just wait and see how the BTD goes before considering GTD. I am still unclear on whether or not the GTD is based on anything scientific, so that is why I have been hesitant to try it.

The genotype diet is based on the bloodtype diet. It's a fine-tuned version of it.
I'm a B  Gatherer and my food list is different from an O Gatherer.
There are several foods that are listed as superfoods for me, which I can't have to to allergies. I just ignore those.

I have a few foods on my list that I have allergic type reactions to, eggs and bananas. I just treat them as avoids. I've done the best on the Swami diet, but I went straight from a B diet to Geno to Swami. I might have done well on the non-secretor B diet, but I never tried it. It's so good to know your secretor status already. I didn't know until after I'd been doing the diet about 10 years! I wish I'd done the test years ago. Probably would have made a huge difference in my health. I just didn't think I was a secretor, like "I already know who I am, I don't need a stupid test".   What a moron!

On SWAMI, your diet is different from an O Gatherer's diet, and probably even varies from the diet of another B Gatherer.

But if you're following the GTD book, then O Gatherers and B Gatherers all follow the same diet.

BenandBecca - I can vouch for getting a swami for every member of the house!!!

We have done so recently and what a difference it has made!! No more guessing - peace of mind!!!

And plus - cut out and keep shopping guides, the best food combining system and supplement/exercise recommendations - it's truly amazing.
