Hi all, I was quite stunned when I received my secretor results. Always though that I would be a secretor instead of a nonnie!
Anyway here are my questions, appreciate your answers!
1. Are nonnies "weaker" or "frail-er" than secretors? I get that impression when I read the difference between them.
2. What are the foods that are now allowed for O non secretors that were previously avoids for secretors? And food that are beneficial but are now avoids or neutrals? If you know the answer off the top of your head, let me know! There are a lot of food in the TypeBase and I don't want to look them up one by one.
I'm actually following the SWAMI Gatherer diet but so curious about this nonnie stuff.

If you're doing "by the book" BTD, then I think the major "secretor avoids, nonnie neutrals" are coconut oil, lentils, and avocados. Also, a few foods flip from neutral to beneficial, or vice versa, but I never cared about that, since either way these were foods I could eat.
With SWAMI, all you have to do is enter your secretor information and it will calculate the rest. |

I just found out I am a non-secretor & have only been doing the Explorer diet for about a month. Now that I know I am both explorer & non-secretor, I am really confused. Should I go ahead & get the Swami Software? |

The only thing about my non-secretor status that I'm aware of right now, is that it explains my dental problems, and also the fact that I can eat an avoid and often not have a response until later, sometimes much later, making it difficult to track what I ingested that gave me the reaction. I'm not frail or particularly sensitive. I like fragrances and perfumes. I enjoy all kinds of foods - with no allergies that I'm aware of. I am a bit sensitive to scratchy fabrics, hate that, refuse to wear a wool turtleneck but I think plenty of secretors probably feel the same. Whether you are a secretor or non-secretor, it's just good to know because it gives you more information about how your body works and what you should eat or avoid to keep it healthy. I'm still a little skeptical myself about the nonnie club stuff (see the "you know you are a nonnie" thread). But I have an aversion to *special* clubs, always have for some reason. Perhaps I just haven't embraced my nonnie-hood yet. Yes, I advise SWAMI. It's individually tailored for you as an individual. But if you do well on BTD with secretor status, there may be no reason to do SWAMI. I'm glad I got mine because it makes eating & food shopping sooooo much easier for me. I like things that are no-brainer. |

I would. My logic is that both explorers and nonsecretors have special health needs. The GenoType diet is a great diet, but it only is 6 different diet plans and people with special needs probably don't exactly fit one of the 6 health plans. In particular the explorer plans has to accomodate people from all 4 blood types and both secretors statuses. Since it is serving all kinds of people, it may not exactly fit every explorer, SWAMI will create a plan tailored to your needs specifically rather than explorers in general. |

I would suspect (since you're an explorer and a non secretor) that you would discover the lists of foods swami would give you would be very different from the basic explorer diet. It may not be, but most likely it would so...I would get swami. The more specific your diet is for you, the better off you'll be. Even following the explorer diet, you may be eating things you shouldn't, and you may be avoiding foods you should eat - especially since you're a nonnie. It's up to you, but in my opinion, it would be worth it. |

Did you re-do your SWAMI with non-secretor selected? I wonder if you're an Explorer then? |

One benefit for being a non-secretor is that it can be a strong motivator for adhering to a very high level of compliance on this way of eating. It's been my observation that many secretors take more liberties with following the diet more loosely. And most non-secretors know that we'd better not take that approach if we value our health. |

Take your fingers out of your ears! This may not be what you want to hear, but it's certainly good to know in terms of prevention. What you don't know can hurt you. Embrace your nonnie-ness |

Exactly. I was referring to the initial post, in which the "OP" stated that she's a Gatherer. |

I was surprised too to find out my secretor status. I'm Lewis double negative, presumed non-secretor (the testing here in Australia ia a little bit of a process...but that is another story. Suffice to say I couldn't be bothered clarifying the small possibility that I am a weak secretor, and go with being a nonnie.) Anyway, several things changed with the new status. I went from explorer to gatherer. Then I got Swami. The lists were somewhat different from the GTD lists. The best thing is that I have lost weight easily and consistently, which I didn't on the BTD/GTD. And I certainly don't feel weak or frail, quite the opposite. But nonnies are special in many ways, and it is good to know that! |

Hi all, I'm new to the board. I've been studying and reading as much as possible. I got my Swami yesterday and my results today. I'm a Hunter. I don't know my secretor status yet but will be ordering it today. I strongly suspect that I'm a non-secretor because I've always been described as the canary in the cave, so it was funny to read that phrase here today. I am sensitive to many things, both food-wise and environmentally. Anyway my question is in terms of the % you mention. Just for grins, I already put non-secretor in Swami to see what would change and I'm still a Hunter so the food list won't change, but what do you mean by % in terms of the food list. Thanks... |

I did update my SWAMI with the non secretor part. Given that the food list is extensive, I can't see which foods have moved in the superfood/neutral/avoids categories.
My % for Gatherer has however gone up from 36% to 38%.
I'm a bit sad about the higher risks of diseases except for cancer but I thought I've always been robust in health. I don't fall sick easily but I do have mild eczema from time to time. And what is this canary analogy?
Another question... I do break out in rashes when I put on perfume and my dad breaks out in rashes when he drinks. Do I tick the "allergies" column for myself and my parents in SWAMI?
Thanks! |

And what is this canary analogy?
I can answer that one haha...Miners used to take canary's in a little cage into the mines with them to make sure they were safe in terms of gases etc, and if the canary's started to have problems breathing or God forbid died they knew the mine wasn't safe, and they'd get out. It correlates with being very sensitive to things... People have referred to me as that so I had to find out what it meant...and I'm going to be tested...we'll see... |

1. In a way I guess you could say weaker. I call it more sensitive. We live in a world where we're being bombarded with a lot of unnatural things. I look at the sensitivity of nonnies as a strength. I find the harm in something quicker through my own body's natural wisdom, ie EMF's and other carcinogens. Recently discovered I'm sensitive to the fumes from premium gasoline of all things. So I avoid. I googled some things re premium gasoline and found there are known carcinogens added to it to boost the octane. My weakness is my strength. 2. ? |

I truly believe that being an O Non Secretor I am stronger for it. I am unique and proud of it. I do not subscribe to the idea that I get sick more often, however if I do get sick I KNOW that I will not be sick for long. |

It sure seems like type-o non secretors have the best and the worst of it all as when we eat against out secretor type we seem to really suffer (inflammation and gut issues) and when we go by the book and eat all bene's we seem to function as a machine from my readings on here over the last several years. |

Thanks...
Sorry I re read my post & I have a typo. What I wanted to say is when you run SWAMI & add more info like secretor status it changes the % of how many of the traits you have of your genotype. For me when I finally added my taster status my % went up from 47 to 51% but my food list stayed the same. |
