I tried olive oil in my hair since it works so great on everything else...hahahaha...I turned out looking like a grease ball! I straighten my hair after each washing, so I thought maybe it would help...Maybe it will help the day after I wash it! But not lookin too good right now!!! I cant wait to wash this out. Seriously. Looks like I have not washed my hair in weeks! bluh.

I gave my 16yo a hot oil treatment a few months ago. The plan was to warm up olive oil, then put it on her hair, then have her wash it out. She was experimenting with washing her hair with something other than  regular shampoo at the same time. Either I used too much oil, she didn't use enough of whatever it was she was washing her hair with, or both, but her hair was very greasy for the next few days, even though she washed it nightly. After 2 or 3 days, she went ahead and used normal shampoo to get the olive oil out- and then her hair was soft but not greasy.

Now she does the olive oil thing maybe once a month, and always washes it out with ample amounts of shampoo after about half an hour. I'm not sure what she washes her hair with in between though.

Good as a treatment, left on overnight, washed out in the morning.  Not something I'd put on
my hair and expect to go out and be seen in public.

A little magnesium oil rubbed in my hands and lightly patted on hair works wonders for
my curly hair....but again, it's the quantity used that makes the difference.  I use very little.

Coconut oil works for my hair too.  So does jojoba oil.  On a hot sunny day, good to put oil
on your hair, get out in the sun/heat, let it soak in.....wash it out afterwards.

How much olive oil did you use?  (obviously way too much! )

I would say I used about a teaspoon and a half maybe. I just pored some into my hand and ran it through. I have medium long hair...Its funny - My daughter looked at me after I straightened it and said - "you're going out like that???" Haha. It was just to pick up my son at school. i didnt have to get out of the car.

I bet straightening it with the olive oil really makes the oil infuse the hair follicle. I hope it looks good in the morning.

Nadizzle,

Olive oil can be used quite successfully to condition hair.  My hair is straight and fine but I have alot of it.  A beauty consultant recommended adding a "spritz"  ( could translate to about an 1/8 of a teaspoon to your shampoo.

I've use this quite often and I always shampoo again (without the oil) to make sure it is all out.

It works well for me because I've tried so many conditioners and they all weigh my hair down.

After you get the oil out, in a few weeks or whenever you might want to try it agaiin.

I'll bet after your current treatment you have shiny hair!!

I use a 50 50 mix of grapeseed oil and olive oil, tinty amounts needed. one squirt is enough to do the backs hands face and hair. best on short hair.

when you wash it out, you have to heat the shampoo first. It'll remove much more oil. Just put the shampoo bottle in some hot (not too hot that it'll melt the bottle) water until the shampoo is warm then wash as usual

Nadizzle,

I didn't mean to sound "flip" about shiny hair.

I forgot ....
I remember one time I used mayonnaise and wrapped my hair with plastic wrap which was reccommded at the time.   Well, I washed my hair three times that night and the next day it was still greasy.  It took about 3 days of washing it every night to finally get it out but I have to say it was very silky feeling.  Never tried that again.

I use olive oil in my avocado hair mask that I put on my hair once a month.
1 avocado
2 tea spoons of honey
2 tea spoons of olive oil
2 tea spoons of cocconut oil
I just use the minipimer to mix it all together and then i heat it a little bit. I then put all the stuff on my hair wrap with plastic and leave it on for about 2 hours and then wash with shampoo. It's really good.

I also have a problem with dry tips that tend to break and on my and I can say that putting a little bit of cocconut oil on the tips after washing the hair realy helps.

It's about 20 years now since I am always dying my hair with chemical dye. Recently I discovered henna and I used it a couple of times. I was blown away by the results. The hair is shiny, looks thicker, healthier I just love it. I've decided that I will only color my hair with henna from now on.

I love putting oil on my hair It's like my pampering session, oil = head massage hehehe.  I do it every 3-4 weeks either with olive or coconut oil. I have used castor oil in the past but it has to be diluted/mix with other type of oil such as sunflower for example otherwise it will be too thick!  Ideally you warm up the oil slightly so it's easier to spread & absorb. Put a shower cap on, then do your errands around the house.  You can also try henna if you are interested? Apart from colouring it's also an excellent relaxer & moisturiser

Henna - Never heard of that! I will try that if I can figure out how to find it and how to use it. It relaxes frizzy hair? nice. must try.

OK - my hair was SO silky and shiny after I washed it this morning...and still is!

I washed it with warm Redkin shampoo three times, and followed with my regular redkin conditioner and it looked great....SO great! Wasnt heavy at all, and the oil washed out perfectly! i will do this once a month. AND i am going to do this for my daughter as well.

Be very careful when applying oils to your daughter's hair. If extra oil gets on her skin, it might excaberate her acne.

acne in many can also be a result of a total lack of essential fatty acids and cla in the diet, besides all other reasons mentioned in other threads on acne......it is a fine line no doubt

Yes. Thanks - I dont want anything to increase factors!

Hmmm. I have some CLA, should I giver my daughter some to try it?

Also, the one thing in the skin protocol that I have not gotten is the OPC's - I dont know anything about that. If you have any knowledge of this, I could use a little help there. I read about it, but I dont remember reading how it can improve acne.
