Subject tells all. So many powders containging many healthy greens contain alfalfa! I think maybe barley, wheat and oat grass (not diagnosed even in SWAMI?) could be very healthy even to coeliacs, but is alfalfa always harmful to O types? If, that's a big pity. |

Quoted Text
Dr D This is principally due to one of alfalfa's constituents, the amino acid canavallin. This compound is a non-essential amino acid which competes with arginine and has been found to induce a reversible lupus-like condition in some individuals. This syndrome is characterized by anemia, antibodies to DNA, and deposition of immunoglobulins and complement in the skin. The suspected mechanism is a loss of T suppressor activity. T suppressor cells modulate the immune response by "suppressing" the T killer cells. Thus, by "suppressing the suppressors" canavallin increases immune activity. However it is non-specific and often directed against the body's own tissues. As I wrote in ER4YT, type O's have higher rates of auto-immune disease over the other ABO types. (Mourant, 1985) Alfalfa contains an additional compound with thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) activity. This TRH analog is biologically active, probably via the hypothalmus rather than the pituitary, and has the additional effect of inhibiting prolactin release. Since type O has a rather unstable thyroid metabolism to begin with, this adds yet another contra-indication against using the herb in this type.

I often just buy wheat grass and barley grass powder in bulk from my natural food store. |

Ok... canavallin... Thank you very much for quoted information Lola! According to SWAMI my epigenetic worldview is "Receptor", which is not common for Hunters? Reactor would be the most common alternative? * RECEPTOR TYPE. The Receptor worldview tends to regard most environmental influences as potentially useful and will often align and adjust to these influences rather than oppose them. Receptor types typically tend to experience less inflammation and auto-immune problems, but may develop more immune susceptibilities and malignancies. So - the effect of alfalfa wouldn't be so harmful to receptors than reactors? But anyway, I must to admit that I'm O Hunter - and my SWAMI mentions alfalfa as avoid. Still, if you have something to comment, I would be very pleased |

oh, so you do have a swami thought you didn t in your other thread, and mentioned about acquiring it simply avoid your avoids, those have been computed there for a reason. like: Epigenotoxin (Lectin)(Glycotoxin) Blood Group O Metabolotoxin (anti-metabolite) it is so unnecessary to resist or argue over values of food avoid to you yet tooted wonderfoods in the media..... |

Well, that can be true. I just get my food information from many sources of which SWAMI is one of the best but not the only I acquired SWAMI maybe 9-10 months ago Thanks Lola - again |

There are lots of wonderful foods out there that aren't for everybody. Like oranges- a decent source of Vitamin C, but an avoid for anybody who's an A, AB, or O. It's still a good food for Bs though.
Then there are things like noni juice, touted as a "superfood." Well, it's only neutral for me. I won't avoid a food that has noni in there, but neither will I go out of my way to purchase it when blueberries are a whole lot cheaper.
I'd rather get my greens from food and not powders. I eat lots of salad, use plenty of frozen spinach, and add dried parsley (sold in the spice section) to many of my foods as well. |
