Hi!

I am a BTD/GTD newbie. I was reading LR4YL and learned that Bs have memory issues when they are stressed. As my other threads indicate, I was quite sick for the past 2-3 years. Up to a week and half ago (pre-BTD/GTD), I had severe brain fog and needed massive amounts of coffee to try and "act" like my memory and cognition were intact (which is terrible for anyone but more so for a grad student with concerned professors who are watching).

Well, after I started the diet, I no longer have brain fog but I am having vivid dreams EVERY single night. I am wondering if my brain cells are trying to "reset" themselves, as well.

Did anyone else experience vivid dreams upon starting on the diet?

Victoria, no, it is not to "woo-woo" for me. I actually practice reiki and Kundalini yoga. I notice that my reiki fields are getting stronger, too. I had difficulty doing reiki on myself when I was weak from being sick. Also, my hands and feet are not as cold as before.

I am slowly using that because I am NOT a linear thinker (as verified by Dr. D's book). I knew this already but the American education system emphasizes linear thinking. I have comps coming up for my grad. degree and using mind mapping instead. It makes sense!

Just wondering if other type Bs have this issue.

i have vivid dreams most nights, i didnt know it was a blood type B/nomad thing But doesn't dreaming make you more tired cause your brain isn't exactly resting? at least thats what i heard?

I wake up quite refreshed since I have not been able to sleep well before the diet. I am just surprised at the frequency of these dreams.

I am very intuitive and have done a lot of energy work prior to getting sick. My energy fields are really getting charged up these days (after starting the diet).

Well, Bs are supposed to be quite intuitive so I am wondering if it is blood type thing. Also, Bs are more into non-linear thinking and so I am asking about mindmapping.

I guess you used ginger. Reduce ginger if you want softer and less dreams. Ginger is better used fresh instead of as a spice. That much intense dreams may be a sign that you were deficient of something in the ginger, probably the essential oil of it is doing a great work in your body.

This is very interesting.  I have two thoughts on this.  First, I had no clue ginger could be at the cause of dreams.  I have pretty vivid dreams and I eat a lot of ginger in a day.  Especially with my evening snack.  This could be a sign of something.  Plus, last night something happened that showed my I might need to cut back a little.  It's so good for my stomach, but I think I might not need as much any longer.  I eat a LOT of ginger.  If I eat a grain, I always add ginger.  It seems to make it digest better.  Like right now I'm eating about 1/3 cup of quinoa, and I cut up .3 ounces of fresh ginger in with it.  I like it when my nose runs.  But, I read on wiki that 2 grams per every kilo should be your limit, otherwise, you can basically OD. Which I figured out is 4 ounces.  I don't think I've ever eaten that much at one time, but I think I may be pushing it a little too much.  Hence, it may be why I'm getting vivid dreams also.

Secondly, when I first started having health problems, the blaring problem was yeast.  I had all the symptoms terribly, and even while awake, there were a couple of times I said a few things to some people, that I don't normally.  Almost like I was half out of it.  And I remember those couple of nights when I was at my worst, I had horrible, crazy, bizarre, scary dreams.  Thank the Lord that I had found an ND that diagnosed it right quick and got me on a yeast killing protocol that worked well.  If it had gotten much worse, I would've really started to freak out.  

So I always wonder if it may be yeast when I dream vivid.  Although the other symptoms are quite diminished now, and they're not as bizarre and scary any longer.  I still know I have it a little, but not anywhere like I used to.  So, I'm not sure if it's the yeast, or the fact that I eat relatively shortly before going to bed.  And always with ginger.  Problem is, it's when I'm the most hungry.  About 9-10pm I really can eat well.  My body is just like that.  I probably screwed up my internal clock from years of bad habits of staying up late.  And I'm trying to rectify that, but it's not something that's going to happen overnight.  

My family and I are doing a night where, once we're done eating, we leave all the lights off, and only use candles and flashlights.  No TV, no computer, just reading and writing and whatever that isn't electronic to keep us up.  My wife went to bed about an hour earlier than normal, which I'm sure is good, but it hasn't made an impact on me yet.  I'm still up until 11 or later before I'm tired that night.  Maybe it will work in the long run.  We've only done it 2 weeks now.  In fact, looking at candles is kind of mesmerizing to me.  It's very soothing, but for some reason it doesn't make me all sleepy yet.  But relaxed.  

Anyways, thanks for starting this thread, it's given me something to think about.

Interesting.  I have vivid dreams quite a bit. A repetitive dream of mine since losing a lot of weight has been a 'flying' dream. I get better at flying with each time I have this dream. I used to bump into buildings and worry about hard landings. No longer.

As far as brain fog, when I used to eat those rice chips I used to experience anger from some of the avoids that were in them. Or the corn induced angry reactions to put it another way. The anger used to cause me partial blindness.  I leave those chips alone. No more amazon orders for those.

I had had a mindmaping seminar back in the early nineties. Shortly after I was the junior local representative at a meeting. We had the opportunity to get serious cash for our projects but speed in getting the projects underway(and tying up the cash) was the priority. After looking the project over in the field we were having a meeting and all the "old heads" were discussing it in the usual first we do A then B then C which would have taken years to actually get the project underway.. I cleared my throat and said excuse me but we are all talking about using this procedure but can't we do it the opposite way. Isn't our priority speed in getting started rather than the actual initial cost?( It is usually up front cost) It turned out that that shaved 4 years off of getting started and was actually cheaper over all.

Years later I told one of my workers "keep in mind where you want to go then find a way to get there. It doesn't matter all that much the direction you take as long as you get there and there are many ways to get where you want to go."

I find mindmapping to be very helpful.

This is scary but I am working on memory improvement and grammar review. My brain fog from all my allergy medication and pain killers (from last summer's car accident) coupled with a vitamin d deficiency affected my memory and language faculties! I forget certain vocabulary words and my sentence order is affected (esp. in my writing). I am a student and write for a living so this is not an ideal situation.

I am slowly regaining my memory and language skills but having to admit I even had a problem was horrible. I feel like I am learning how to walk all over again. It is a slow process and it is frustrating.

I have to go and talk to my adviser about this - it affected my performance in school. I am hoping I will clear up over the summer.

Thanks, Amazone. I am taking Gingko and Inositol (which are B type cognition vitamins as suggested in Dr. D's book... I have only been doing this for a few days, though).

I am more depressed that my memory and language was failing me. I feel insecure since I realize my professors were probably thinking I am subpar.

Even though I am not a Nomad I do experience type B symptoms. A couple of times in the past few weeks I have had some weird , vivid dreams but not associated wih ginger. Think I will include some in my meals today (heh-heh-heh).

ever since the btd/gtd, i have been having dreams almost every night, with or without ginger.

i think my brain is trying to heal and rewire itself after being sedated from allergy meds and painkillers. i wrote in my previous post about how my language/cognition/memory were affected... it's coming back but coming back too slowly. i think the dreams are a way for my brain to reset itself as the toxins let out.

i am scared of taking any sort of medication now after realizing how bad the brain fog was!!!

I have two types of dreams... one of them involves floating down the stairs without stepping, then floating feet first through hallways and rooms of various buildings...I tried to see how fast I could go, but my feet kept rising and messing up the floating if I went too fast... It is so real that I have thought of that floating while awake and standing at the top of a stairway... and thinking, is that floating real, or was it just in a dream?  Thank heaven I decided it was just in the dream.  I have had that dream several times... it's not flying or falling like some people have, just floating, very pleasant.

The second type of dream is the sexy kind... wow, I'd like to have more of those... since I'm single now it's probably wishful thinking!!!!

As for the memory/vocabulary/language topic, I lived in Germany for thirteen years.  Went over as an exchange student... I started learning the language at the university, but really couldn't speak it until about four months in country.  I spoke only German 95% of the time in country.  When I came back to the US my language skills in English were horrible.  And my English skills had always been excellent being the heavy reader that I am, extensive vocabulary... I even clepped out of both composition and basic English at the university level.  But after speaking German for so long I couldn't think of certain words in English (still can't and I've been back for 11 years).  I kept asking myself, is that a German word or an English word... my sentence structure was awful... So when you figure out a way to clear up this language problem, let me know... I'll be talking to someone and suddenly I can't think of the word I want... perhaps it's because the German language is so precise.  There is a word for anything and everything, and a word to express a concept that would require several sentences in English.  Maybe that's my problem, as a non-linear thinking B, I am searching for a concept word from German that doesn't exist in English.  There are also time tenses in German that can not be expressed in English.  You can think in your head what they mean but you can not say it in English in one word. I loved the language, it's very precise.  I have studied Spanish too  (and Russian, and Italian) and was speaking it with a tutor, but it was much more difficult for me than German... wonder why.  Anyhow, now I'm really off topic... sorry.

I could not even make sense of my own lists because I am not linear but schools always teach us to take notes in a linear manner. I would take notes but always have subheadings, trying to group everything. Life became so much easier with mindmapping/mindscaping!

Re: Language/Memory

Right now, I confuse Korean and English along with some Spanish and French thrown into my vocabulary! As frustrating as it is, I realize that my brain is trying to reset itself. I recall the same thing happening around age 8 (third grade). My parents forced me to speak Korean at home even if they were fluent in English for fear that I would lose my mother tongue. At school, English, of course, was the primary and only language. I recall times when I would have words pop out in either language and could not distinguish between the two.

I also recall this time being a time when my brain was picking up and expanding my vocabulary. I decided to take things in stride and let things be. I just take time to edit my papers more than once, etc.

The brain sorts out the languages on its own when given time. I am trying to do that. In the mean time, I found the memory books by Harry Lorayne and Jerry Lucas to be helpful. The book teaches simple techniques (such as linking and associations - which makes a lot of sense to us, Bs, since we cluster and do not have linear thinking). http://www.amazon.com/Memory-B.....301901952&sr=8-4

This approach is a little different from traditional grammar/sentence mechanic approaches that I was taught in the school system. It is a nice reminder but using the memory techniques, I am able to make more progress.

It is a challenge at the moment but I am finding the very concept of brain capacity to be fascinating. I am using this moment as one where I can truly slow down and improve my brain function. It is not like I lost everything but just traumatic events that caused memory lapses.

Professional athletes always take time off after injuries and go back to learning basics such as swinging their golf clubs, tennis rackets, etc. I am thinking this is basically the same thing - I am learning how to do basic things again, only to become stronger and better.

Being Bilingual and Brain Power

Very timely of NPR to do an article on this (came out this morning on my Facebook feed)!

Sapphi, you may want to watch German television and American television to keep both languages fresh. Speaking it would also be helpful. I try to speak to my parents in Korean at least several times a week. I only use English otherwise.

Thanks for the suggestion, Princess!  I had my tv reception turned off because I had gotten so hooked on the BS... I would LOVE to get German tv... is that on satellite?  I had taped hundreds of movies from German tv and brought them back with me, along with a multifunctional tv and vcr player so I could play them (they use PAL signals, different from our NTSC) but when the economy collapsed and I lost my job, everything went in storage in AZ... so now I know the tapes are ruined in the heat... oh well, if I could get German tv that would be such a hoot... that would make me such a happy camper... I swoop over the German tourists that are in such great numbers here, and expose them to my German... such fun conversations.  Any little German I hear in a store will find my radar pulling me along in that direction.

I had always thought that having a foreign language spoken at home would be the ultimate way to be bi-lingual... but I had envisioned mother speaks Korean (for example) and father speaks English, not JUST Korean at home period.  

And I do NOT agree with teaching the Spanish-speaking children in Spanish in the schools.  How are they supposed to learn proper English?????????  They need English to function at a university... how will they ever get a higher education?  Well, they don't see it my way, AS USUAL!!!!!  

I had NO problem forgetting the Spanish I had fought tooth and nail to acquire.   I was attacked in Acapulco at knifepoint and I swore I would never speak Spanish again... then I got really motivated by living in a co-op with German exchange students at the university, and acquiring a German boyfriend...    But the biggest problem, I think, was that as I studied, the German language taped over the Spanish in my brain... the more German I learned, the less Spanish I remembered... siiiiiigh... three years of tutoring down the drain.

When I first came back from Germany, another strange phenomenon with language was that whatever foreign language my brain heard, it wanted to respond in German... I'm serious, if I heard people speaking Spanish on the street, I understood what they were saying, but my brain could NOT formulate the answer in Spanish, it wanted to go with German in reply.  The same thing happened with some Vietnamese girls that I was working with.  I wanted to tell them how to do something and do you think I could speak English with them... it was embarrassing... strange things that our brain does...

The reason my parents put up their monolingual front at home was to ensure we would not revert to speaking only English. My grandmother who did not speak any English lived with us at the time. My parents knew we would become "Americanized" and forget Korean if they did not speak it to us. We were often the only non-White family in our area so they knew that my sisters and I would pick up English with greater ease than anything else.

My parents did not limit the Korean to conversation. They read us bedtime stories every night until I was about twelve. Happy memories. They also made us write diary entries in BOTH Korean and English. As a result, not only did I maintain a high level of Korean but I always excelled in spelling and grammar at school. My cousins, on the oher hand, were not taught Korean at home. They can only speak English. Needless to say, I ended up becoming the polyglot in the family and pick up languages wih very little difficulty. My vocabulary is mch greater than that of my cousins'. I speak English without an accent. However, since I don't get to speak much Korean, my pronunciation is not as good as I would like it to be. Hence, I found chartrooms to be quite helpful. It also helps that I am talking to people oher than my parents where we exchange banalities and end up switching back and forth between Korean and English if needed. I usually force myself to speak only in Korean in chatrooms and people are helpful when they know you are trying to brush up on the language.

I am sorry to hear about your tapes! I found the Internet to be a great source for Korean programming. They stream popular soap operas with subtitles. At times, I would watch a Korean drama with Spanish subtitles. It is a fun way to exercise the brain. Not only that, the programs are free and I can watch them at my leisure! I hope to go back and forth between languages like I used to. English is my primary and most proficient language but that is expected when I use English 100% in my daily life. I know if I used Korean as frequently, I would be perfectly proficient in both languages at the graduate school/native/professional level.

I will let you know how I progress and overcome my cognition issue. I wish you well on your endeavors, too!

I am resuscitating an old thread of mine...

I found that since the candida cleared away the brain fog, I am definitely thinking in a more multi-dimensional manner. Dr. D. wrote in Live Right 4 Your Type that Bs are more unconventional and multi-dimensional thinkers.

When I had cognition deficits and memory lapses, I got several books on memory training and mindscaping (mind mapping... very multi-dimensional).

Now that I am recovering, I can visualize and literally see scrolls of paper unfurl before my eyes with my topics for my exam and how they are connected, etc. I can zoom in and get into the specifics or zoom out and look at the way things connect or branch out. It is quite powerful.

I hope parents of B, esp. Nomad, students will help their children subscribe to this method of studying. The retention and potential for creativity are amazing!
