I had my secretor status test done some years back when I first found the BTD, and did well on the O secretor (which it showed me to be). Now I am wondering whether the original secretor test (done by the Americal Lab) could possibly be wrong and I am a nonnie?
any views? |

thanks for the reply, Lola, but I forgot to mention, I havenn't been doing so well recently, and wondered whether it was just "luck" that I managed OK with the seretor diet, and now that my health has deteriorated (IBS, arthritis) it's because the original secretor test was wrong, or because I've lapsed and been eating too many of the wrong things.
I mean, the lab CAN make mistakes, I suppose? |

If your test saliva contained any blood from a sore in your mouth or bleeding gums it might have an effect on your results. |

Eva what are you eating on a regular basis?
We change as we age.
And may need some tweaking of our diets as time goes by. |

Yes, a saliva secretor test can be wrong. Mine was. My blood test showed I was a non-secretor.
If you have lapsed in your diet, that can cause you to not be doing so well. I am amazed at how eating certain avoids can cause an effect so easily.
For over a year I was totally compliant to my SWAMI. Ever since this past Christmas, I have cheated just a little here and there. I now know that certain pains I had in the past were totally food related. Things I would have chalked up to just being tired or over-doing-it. I would go so far as to say that every pain I have ever had is food related. When I eat according to SWAMI, I have no aches or pains = little, to no inflamation in my body.
You may have a correct secretor result or your lapse, eating too much of the wrong things, is catching up with you. You could start with cutting out avoids. Do you have SWAMI? |

where did you have the blood test done that showed you to be a non-secretor? I didn't know this was possible... No, I don't have SWAMI, not computer/techie literate enough and can't afford anything much like that at the moment anyway,.. |

I just found these papers. I always thought I had the saliva test first and then had the blood test done. The dates show the other way around. In May 2001, I had the serotype panel done through Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center in Scottsdale, AZ. That gave me results of LeA+, LeB-. It could be that I didn't realize the Lewis test showed secretor status, because I had a saliva test done by NAP in July 2001. The saliva test said I was a secretor. I do remember that I "pulled" for saliva instead of letting it form slowly. I believe I may have had bleeding gums at the time. I didn't see blood in the sample, but there could have been trace blood. |

EVA B here is a link t get the secretor test done using the lewis method. http://right4eu.sageshops.co.uk/gbp/product_info.php?cPath=20&products_id=96how far are you from canterbury as Tom Geenfield sounds very good and possibly even does the test too. http://www.nature-cure.co.uk/
thanks for the link...does the Lewis secretor test have to be done in a docs office, or is it a home kit that has to be sent off? I'm a very long way (in English terms) from Canterbury....and in not the best condition to travel the distance due to my diggestive health problems....not to mention the cost... he does sound like a good guy, though |

If the saliva sample is too old when the lab tests it, the blood type antigens you actually have (if you're a secretor) might have "died" before testing, giving you a false negative (saying your'e a non-secretor when you're a secretor.)
I have always wondered re the possibility of test results being wrong, due to the above happening... When I sent my saliva sample in (back in Sep 09 - our spring) & heard nothing for a couple of months, I enquired & they wrote back saying they had lost the original!! So they sent another & by the time I received that & sent it in, they then reckoned they'd found the first one & quoted on that so it must have been hanging around & I have aways wondered if it was right |

Lewis Phenotype ABH Secretor Status Le (a+b-) which has Lewis a antigen but not Lewis b Always ABH non-secretor
Le (a-b+) which has Lewis b antigen but not Lewis a Always ABH secretor
Le (a-b-) having neither Lewis a nor Lewis b Lewis outcome not a determinant of ABH secretor status. However, this variant is associated with its own unique metabolic consequences.

Tom Greenfield is great. He attends the conferences here in the states and is a good friend to Dr. D.
I would try and make the trip, he is very mild mannered. |

Phenotyping is nothing more than a fancy word for blood typing. The Lewis blood typing is not that much different from either the ABO blood typing or MN blood typing. You will need to find a lab that can test your blood sample. A major hospital should be able to do this. You might need to do some homework to find where it is done. My blood sample had to be sent by courier to the American Red Cross. Just tell your doctor you would like Lewis phenotyping but try and figure out where it needs to go before you get your doctor to order the test. UK is very different, so maybe it will be more difficult. Sorry I can't be of more help. |
