I am going to be going on a business trip in a week and I can't afford to get sick.  Everyone around me is sick right now, I'm literally not hanging around these people.  My honey is sick and he is confined to the bedroom while I'm in another room.

I'm wondering what can possibly boost my immune system up more.  I am eating about 95% of my diet compliant with my SWAMI.  I have been taking Vit C several times a day.  But my question is, Do I want to eat all of my foods from the beneficial list?  I've been doing about 20% neutral.  Or are there more specific foods that will help boost my immune system.  I really can't afford to get sick.

Proberry- or, if you don't have any on hand and don't want to wait for an online supplement order to arrive, look for elderberry syrup at a local pharmacy or health food store. Try to avoid any that contain "avoid" additives- although you'll have to decide for yourself if a small amount of an avoid is worth the  benefits elderberry can provide against colds and flu. I personally only use proberry (the brand Dr D developed and is sold on this site) but I buy a different kind for DS, that contains corn-derived fructose, because he won't touch the proberry and I decided the benefits outweigh the risks for him.

Also, cut back on added sugars and cut out refined sugar entirely, if you haven't done so already.

Yea I have cut back on most sugars.  The only ones I've been having is tomatoes (neutral) and molasses (beneficial) other then that all the sugars have been eliminated. I'm eating a pretty low carb diet right now, as I'm trying to lose a couple more pounds before the trip.  I did buy some fruit yesterday but I haven't eaten it.  Blueberries and Pineapples both are highly beneficial for me... but should I stay away?

I'll check out Elderberry.  I don't think any where in the small town has proberry.

your Vit C may actually be citric acid or ascorbic acid, corn derived....
not advised for nonnies......

rose hips or acerola cherry are better if you cant get the proberry asap

I buy loose, chopped, dried rose hips at my local HFS, and make them into tea.

I've only ever seen the proberry for sale on this website, though it's probably also available at Dr. D's clinic in Connecticut. I've always gotten things a day or two after ordering from there, but I'm not that far from CT- it may take longer to arrive wherever you live. A local store may carry another brand of elderberry syrup, and if you can't wait for the proberry to arrive, you may want to go ahead and buy another brand just to not be "elderberry-deprived," even if you can't find a brand that's completely corn-free. My son is a B and the elderberry syrup defintely keeps him healthier than when he doesn't take it, even though it contains corn-derived ingredients.

It's also a question of whether you're better off stopping the ascorbic acid supplement to avoid the corn, or if you should keep it up so you get plenty of  vitamin C until you're able to find a compliant substitute. I'm honestly not sure which would be better.

The sugars from whole fruits and molasses shouldn't be a problem- just follow the SWAMI portions. If you were consuming refined  sugar in any form, that's the stuff that weakens immunity. Since you stated you were 95% compliant, I wasn't sure if any white or brown sugar was included in the 5% non-compliant part.

I kind of agree with this.  As I've been taking it for 3 days straight now trying to avoid getting sick.  And the local Elderberry may have a non compliant ingredient too.  I'm going to run to the store at lunch and see what I can find when it comes to Elderberry.

As for my guess of 5% non compliant, its only in a protein shake I'm having about twice a day.  The ingredients include guar gum, Sucralose, Sunflower oil which are avoids.  Does the sucralose count as sugar?? I don't believe so.

And don't stress about getting sick. I have been surrounded by people getting sick with the flu and stomach bugs all year and yet I have not once been sick. Eat all your superfoods and try to be 100% compliant and you'll be fine, just don't worry about it

There is an incubation period for viruses.  Because of this, we can still sometimes bypass an attack by using great hygiene practices, even if we are heavily exposed.

Wash hands with soap and water several times a day, especially at the end of the day when you come home.

Don't touch your eyes with your fingers.  Rinsing the eyes with warm saline water at the end of the work day is a good idea.

Rinse mouth and gargle deeply with warm water with sea salt in it, upon arising, during the day when you can, and especially at the end of the day when you come home.

Keep some Yin Chaio in your possession and take it liberally at the first sign of a cold or flu.

Remember that sugar suppresses the immune system.

I have been working really hard on keeping clean!  Washing my hands being aware of where my hands are going, and using hand sanitizer.

Great idea with gargling and saline!

Okay I went and bought some Elderberry, and got the purest one I could find.  Ingredients are:
Invert Red Beet Sugar
Raspberry Extract
Honey
Citric Acid
Natural Flavors

The invert red beet sugar is what I'm worried about but I'm just assuming that is the Elderberry, it just sounds scary. lol  Then again I'm back with the citric acid.  But I figure the pros might outweigh the cons.

Oh and I got some rose hips and I will be making me some tea now.

I'm taking Tru C by NOW brand.  It has 250 mg of vit. C per capsule, sourced only from Amla berries. All the Acerola powder has maltodextrin, here in my town.

Invert red beet sugar  is just refined sugar- but IMO the benefits of the elderberry makes it worthwile to take this product.

You also might want to step up compliance to avoid getting sick- see if you can pack some "Real food" to eat instead of those protein shakes.

I truly am trying hard not to worry.  Problem is this morning I actually started to feel kind of sick and THEN I started to worry.  I've been planning this trip for years and I am so excited to be going.  I don't want to have to be sick or worse cancel it.  (I would be out lots of money and then would have to wait another year to go)

*Breathe and relax*

I'm going to shoot for doing 100% beneficial foods for the next few days along with the elderberry and rose hips.  I did research on vegetables and fruits high in Vit C and a lot of them are on my beneficial list so I'm going to increase my consumption of them too. Oh and I see why rose hips are suggested, they are extremely high in vit c. And no more of the protein shakes, only real food from now on.

Thanks for everyone's help!!  I truly appreciate it!  I still have one week to go so my hopes are that if I do get sick, that eating according to my SWAMI will help me kick it before the trip happens.

Is there Elderberry in this???  All I see is naturally flavored and colored sugar syrup.  I realize that Elderberry and Raspberry are probably "cousins" in the plant world, but ???

Quantum Elderberry Extract is a good brand, just elderberries in an alcohol tincture.  They also have it in capsules, for a non-alcohol version.

not likely immune enhancing, ingesting corn derived lectins which cause an insulin resistance, causing pathology.....like lowering the immune system and getting a cold........a never ending circle

Drink plenty of pure water and have some green tea. Sounds like you are doing great. Trust in the power of yourself and your body. It's already been suggested, but I agree, meditate and also picture yourself healthy and enjoying your trip instead of worrying about getting sick. Feel and think strong and don't magnify every little physical "blip" that comes along.

And have a great trip!

Typing this on iPhone (two-thumbed method) and not wearing glasses, so I can barely read what I'm typing and what iPhone autocorrects into totally diff words, but here goes anyway, as this should be a shortie:

Proberry Capsules!  They contain high-quality elderberry and other immune-boosting ingredients. Like you, I am literally surrounded by SICK people at work and I am absolutely convinced that the Proberry Caps are the key thing (in tandem with the GTD) standing between me and coming down with this. I'm the ONLY person in my whole department at work who has not gotten it, and several of them are on round two. I have felt like I'm fighting it off, but I have NOT actually come down with it.

You can order the Proberry by phone or net and it arrives in just a few days. If no time to wait for it, order it and also go to you local health food store and get some elderberry liquid or caps to take in the interim.

Good luck!

P.S. I should have mentioned that elderberry has been shown to fight flu in double-blind, placebo-controlled studies.  I'm telllin' ya, the Proberry has saved me this winter and is still doing so as we speak.
