Eat Right or Live Right?  And why do you suggest what you do?  I probably will only be doing the most very basic diet part for a long while (no time with a toddler and this diet is already too time-consuming to allow me to do any exercise/lifestyle changes, check for secretor status, genotype, SWAMI, and all that other fancy stuff.)  Eventually as I get more time, I would like to read up on them, but I have to order the books from overseas, so I am thinking of just getting one (and when I go back home to visit maybe end of this year, I will check the other books out at my library.  Thanks for any input!

I'd say read Eat Right first...It was the first book Dr. D wrote and is the foundation for all the other books that followed.

I would agree with this. The layout is quite clear with everything easy to find.

I would definitely say get Eat Right for Your Type first, for the reasons already stated by other posters.  It's the classic.

Why do you say that this diet is "too time consuming" to allow you to do any exercise?  Exercise is a vital component of this diet, perhaps especially for O's (although all types need to exercise).  I find my lifestyle on this diet really saves me a ton of time, because to me, it is a myth that "fast food" is actually fast.  I used to spend a lot of time getting carry-out.  Now I have good food surrounding me at home in my kitchen and I can just throw something together in a snap, with just a little planning at the front end, like doing a little cooking on a weekend, when I'm home anyway, like one evening I'll make a big batch of brown basmati rice, or I'll cook some meat up, or both.  I keep bags of onions and salad greens and broccoli slaw, cans of wild salmon, eggs, little containers of herbs (basil and spearmint) in the fridge, frozen veggies, fruits and meats, etc. around.  You learn what convenient, easy, nutritious staples to keep around to whip out at a moment's notice.

Anyway, exercise is crucial--don't neglect it!  Especially if you need to lose weight, it is vital.  I didn't figure this out for years and it really hurt me.  I've learned I have to exercise virtually EVERY day.  I say "virtually", as, of course, there are days here and there when I don't do my walk, but they are RARE.  And I panic if I don't exercise for one day, as that is how important I've come to realize it is.

Anyway:  ER4YT first, that's my two cents.  Along with the exercise lecture.

I also vote Eat Right...  It is very important to get a good foundation.  Without it, you may question what you are doing long-term.

About the toddler and time...  Use the toddler as a reason to do the diet, not as an excuse to take time away...  Initially, any change takes some time - especially a diet change, as you need to think about what and where to buy, how to rearrange the menu to get the beneficial foods in, change recipes to exchange good for bad, etc...  These things need to be done until they become automatic, then this diet will be as easy as the one you are migrating from.

We are all busy people.  We needed to make our health a higher priority, at least through the learning stages, to make the necessary changes.  Now that much of the change is in place, we live life much like we did - with a different menu and some predictable exercise.

ER4YT.. first then all the others.. I mean all I have a slew of them all interesting when I want to know some thing but the encyclopedia is a must also..


Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

As a newbie I say ER4YT first. The reason being is that I just finished reading it and it gives some valuable information that I feel sets a person up for success with this lifestyle. I am going to do this for about 3 months then I will move on to the Genotype book.
