My DH and I have basically swapped our former diets. I am now eating what he used to eat and vice versa.
He used to be hot all the time and I used to be cold all the time. Now we are just the opposite. He's usually cold and I'm usually hot.
Anyone else experience changes in perceived ambient temperatures?

Yes, I used to be a hotbox. And then I got cold. But that happened even before BTD when I started having stomach problems. I hope your husband is alright!

Yes, I used to feel excessively cold in the winter just before starting the BTD. Now I feel like my old self. I think my thyroid was sluggish and the BTD fixed it.
My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant. Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index. DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.
I have been cold all my life. I used to sleep with an electric blanket in the summers when younger.
Now, I can step outside without a coat in 30 something weather. Very strange....but I like it!

I have found that when meat eaters such as the O's and B's are eating for their type they are naturally warmer. I on the other hand prefer to be slightly cooler and feel better that way too. When I used to eat red meat it would over heat my system and I would break out in rashes. Maybe due to the stomach acid it takes to process meat in the body, it creates a warming action. That's just my odd guess on it. My mother who is an AB has the same issue when she used to eat meat. It would over heat her. We both like to be on the cooler side.

I have hot feet -- but I attribute it to not wearing socks anymore, nor closed shoes .. the soles of my feet get dry, and I have no real solution for that.
When I see other peoples medicines schedule-I am happy to be here taking care of my health I only wish to drop weight more easily-life would be perfectionBeing 'here' creates understanding. BTD prevents damage from eating avoids. Thanks Dr D & your sups - all support and friendships

I used to always feel hot. In the winter, when I was finally comfortable, everybody else around me was cold. This was true even when I was a teenager.
In the past year, I've felt a lot colder. I don't know if it's the diet directly, my recent weight loss (although I wasn't like this before I gained the weight), or hormonal shifts as I get older. It might even be that my clothes are too baggy since I've lost the weight and haven't had the money to buy smaller ones.
It's not such a big deal- I bought a few camisoles and I wear them under my shirts, and that extra layer (along with wearing leggings under my skirts all the time instead of JUST wearing them when I bundle up to go outside) is keeping me comfortable in the winter.

Having lost over a hundred pounds in the past, when a person is thiner the cold seems noticeably worse.
Thin people cannot be casual about "did you remember your scarf" when snow is on the ground. Of course part of the remedy is to be active in the cold outdoors, which further helps to keep you thin.
You will still be needing that scarf, however.
My weight loss goal: 220 lbs. A 6'4" dyslexic oddball: the size of a line-backer, the silhouette of Winnie-the-Pooh.

I used to need to set my house thermostat at 80 now it is at 70 in winter. I can put it down to 68 at night & be confortable. I used to never turn the air conditioner on until it reached 90 deg F. Now I want it on at 80. I used to need a heater at my desk, now I don’t.

However, I have lost 20 lbs. and am hotter than ever.
As a matter of fact. I have to open the window in my office these days (30s) to cool off because I'm so hot! MY DH is comfortable.

I think eating the right kind of protein definitely has made me warmer. I'm not sure about the thyroid function because my wake-up temperatures have been on the low side--as it always has been. But during the day I definitely feel more normal vs. shivering all the time during the period before I went on the BTD and was going vegan/raw.

I used to love the cold and hate the heat. And when I say I used to love the cold, I really mean to a fairly extreme degree (no pun intended!). My mom recalls that I would go out and play in the snow for hours and hours, refusing to come in even to change into dry clothes or eat or anything. I would sled and make “snow angels’ and come home with snow and ice all over me, slush in my boots, yet I was impervious to it. I would go out as a kid and teen with NO jacket when it was, like, 20 degrees out, causing continual fights with my mom (we fought back then all the time anyway, so why not about jackets *lol*?). I chose to go to college in Vermont because I specifically LOVED Vermont and wanted the cold winters, and I would walk around when it was minus 12 degrees in a teeshirt, causing all my friends’ jaws to drop, but I LOVED IT. In the summer as a kid, when we’d go to the ocean, I’d swim on cold, rainy days when no one else was on the beach except the lifeguards. Refreshing!
ANYWAY: I’ve TOTALLY CHANGED! I had to move to hot, humid Florida due to a physical sitch, but other than how much better the hot, humid weather made my quality of life with that sitch, I still would have told you that, all things being equal, if I didn’t have the physical sitch necessitating living in FL, I’d be back up north so fast it would make your head spin. But now? omg, I’ve realized just in recent times that, NO: I wouldn’t move back north even if I could!!!
I can’t STAND to be even the slightest bit cold now!!! Granted, I still keep my thermostat lower than most people, set at 65, but that is much warmer than I used to keep it. I would make it warmer still (about 68 ), but I do try to be green, plus with my physical sitch, I don’t like to have the drying hot air blowing on me too much from the heat vents—moved here to escape that. Granted also that co-workers always comment (including today, no less): “You didn’t wear a COAT?”, but that is just that I’m still from the north, and, I’m sorry, a few minutes of being chilly walking from my car to the building I work in does not warrant a jacket *rolling eyes*. So, I’m still a LITTLE like I used to be, but mostly I’m now like all the people I used to think of as weather wusses: I can’t stand cold weather, I can’t stand slightly chilly weather, I can’t stand anything but boiling, tropical boilingness. I don’t think it’s from the BTD/GTD, or from losing so much weight, as I was a normal weight child and I couldn’t get enough of winter then. No, I think with me, it is something to do with, as they say down here, my “blood thinning out” or whatever the actual scientific transition is, but SOMETHING has taken place because I am no longer me! I am someone I don’t recognize! The only me-ness still left is that I do NOT like bright sunny days, I like cloudy, overcast days. Everyone was complaining yesterday about the sun not being out and I was like, shut up, it’s perfect: it’s WARM and overcast, perfect walking weather! Who wants to be out when the blazing Florida sun is beating down on your rosacea-sporting head? Not I, said the little red hen!
Anyway: The me who sashayed around Vermont at 12 below zero in a teeshirt is gone. I come to you now LIVE from west central Florida, in a turtleneck (albiet a short-sleeved one) AND a sweat jacket, even though it is going to get into the sixties today outside. In my defense, they do keep it a refrigerator in here!
Anyway, I’ve been taken over by a Florida pod twist. If you find the real me, please send her back to me. She’s probably swimming in the Bering Straights or inventing the new extreme sport of naked luging down Mount Mansfield. As for me, I’m making a note to stock up on blankets for the impending cold snap!
P.S. Does anyone know if your blood really “thins out” when you live in a subtropical or tropical clime? Something happens to it, that’s for sure. Or, if not to your blood, then to something regarding your acclimating apparatus.
P.P.S. Back when I used to drink tonic water, I noticed that the quinine (an anti-febrile) in same would make my head feel cooler and this was most welcome. I truly am a “hot head”! Learned years later that quinine is, in fact, an anti-febrile. I must be the Ayurvedic “Pitta” (fire) type because, until my recent weather wussification, I was forever seeking out ways to cool myself off: swimming (pool good, ocean BETTER), sitting with my face directly in front of a room fan, plunging my entire body into a snow drift, you name it. I guess your Ayurvedic type doesn’t change...weird, then, how moving a “fire” type to a HOT clime has actually had the effect of cooling me down! Talk about homeopathic principles (like cures like).
Eeenyhooo: homey don’t do cold climes anymore. Enjoying them is but a lovely, wistful and treasured memory for me.

Yes, this happened to me as well. My thyroid was underactive (and probably still technically is) and it made me cold all the time. I tried multiple times to wean myself off my natural thyroid supplement, but within about three days I'd start feeling like I was going insane and I got even colder. It wasn't until I was on the BTD for a few months that I tried weaning myself again and I was successful! The only times I've had to go back on a supplement was during pregnancy and maybe for a few months afterwords. I know part of it is hormones, but I'm almost always hot now.

Sitting here shivering as I type. I am freezing since the btd, the weight loss and quitting drinking alcohol. Used to be boiling all the time before. Going to see a doctor on Monday because friends are concerned about me just to rule anything out.

Alcohol is very warming. When I have a glass of red wine (about 3-4 oz of 6% alcohol) I feel flushed and uncomfortably hot after a few minutes.
Since your body adapted to so much alcohol all the time, it makes sense that you're feeling cold without it. It's going to take time to fully adjust to an alcohol-free body.
