Been going on hikes regularly, but last Sunday we did what was supposed to be 10 miles. It turned into 12.6 with one side trip to find a creek, but we gave up and trudged back up the hill. Then my husband wanted to do a 2 hour hike yesterday. I'm fine while hiking but today I am pretty tired. Can this be causing a cortisol spike? could also be my hormones (T.O.M?). I don't want to discourage his hiking but I am better with 1 to 2 hours I think...... |

Listen to your body. If it's too much, then scale down. I usually need to take things extra-easy the next day or three after overdoing it one day. |

It sounds like fun to me, where did you go? If you are too tired you do need to slow down, but I would think a type O would need lots of good exercise and outside hiking sounds great. |

Yes, you can exercise too much, even for an O. I have noticed when I do 2 days in a row of strenuous exercise, I am quite fatigued! I believe that is a sign that my body has had enough and if I try to push through that, I set myself up for injury and inflammation. Rest is as important as exercise. Like ruthiegirl says, listening to your body is the key |

Definitely honor your own body. That's at the heart of all that we are trying to do. It's all about Individuality! Hopefully you and your husband will be able to reach a balance where you can still hike together, and if he needs to go more often or further or faster, or whatever, maybe he will need to do a few by himself, or you go half way and turn round and come back. |

Thanks everyone! Good advice from all. We hike all around the San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara Open Space Preserves. Monday it was in some Redwood Forest called the Corte Madera Creek trails. We saw the sun setting over fog above the Pacific through the trees along the trail. It really is exceptional and I almost can't miss the opportunity to go. I did not do much yesterday and our next hike is tomorrow with our 25 year old type B marine and two younger O brothers. Rest is helping. I also decided to buy a better pair of hiking shoes. I was overdue for a new pair. I think my husband likes to hike longer distances twice a week. I like shorter distances more often. We'll Have to work it out. |

Yes, you can. Bad things happen for me when I overdo physical labor and exercise. But, I am battling becoming well and that plays a role. But adrenals can always be overtaxed. But kudos for staying active! |

Paula I'm an O. yes, I think also the weather could play into it. To hot, humid etc. I can hike all day but when I'm with my O husband I'm taking two steps for every one of his. He eather has to slow down or take a break for me to catch up to him. That's how we work it. |

I am not athlete, but I do remember Coach telling us that when the exercise is enough to build the muscle (ie tear and cause the reinforcement of the fibres) that you should have a day of relative rest. Especially before and after the big game. Perhaps you need to increase the consumption of muscle healing foods or see if you should take L-Glutamine. Your activity is built on your diet.

YES to you're question.. I think yes!
I think it's not worth to overdue anything.. a hike as in a slow walk, or trying to keep up are two things .. listen to you! even some exercise different from strenuous tennis playing or running would be a better thing, using different muscles I think is even more important.
why is 'he' bent on stressing, why the need to get there? why the need for army like muscles? we do not have to 'survive' pushing us to exhaustion as if life depended on it. life might depend on rest to survive..
no don't take a single supplement just to accommodate purposely stressing a female body against a male body.. use sense and hear your inner voices. if you need to keep up, get a buggy and meet him on the way home.. hahaha |

Maybe the marine can carry you part of the way as part of training. Sounds like you live a lovely life. |

Just checked in here and you all have such sound advice and comments. Yes, it's beautiful for sure, but I do need to scale back, or have rests in between hikes....goodness yes! The Marine son was pushing people up the hill, like his girlfriend! We did go out to dinner afterwards too. He went back to his base in Yuma, where it's currently always over 100 degrees. I guess Nor Cal has been having a very cool summer unlike the rest of the country. Sorry for you all in hotter, more humid areas. But I remember that from NJ.....again, I need to get that rest in between, and I think some l-glutamine can't hurt either. You folks from Canada, I think you are in the next best place! Beautiful up there too! |
