So, I've had my secretor test kit for a while now but have yet to do the collection. I've had visitors from out of town and a number of other things on my plate.
I want to get an accurate reading and am a bit concerned about the collection process. I've tried on several occasions over the weekend to collect my saliva without making it too foamy.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me to ensure more liquid and less foam? |

Keep hydrated, make sure you keep your water intake up always, but for at least 24 hours prior to collection ... |

It took me about 30 minutes to get mine filled to where it needed to be without the foam. I only did a little at a time b/c my mouth would dry out and then the saliva was all foam. |

Remember, it says no coffee or anything (even toothpaste) first up...only water Don't spit too hard; creates bubbles which are not desired... |

Thanks for the tips so far!
I'm pretty sure I'm quite hydrated... I consume between 2-3 ltrs of water daily. I don't drink coffee and I don't use toothpaste either so I should be good on all these aspects of the process. |

Great to hear ... then relax, which I know you are also good at, and take your time, like Possum suggested, there is no time limit to do it, as long as you get it done. How exciting to know another puzzle of ourselves will soon be unveiled!!!... I was when I did mine ... |

That's actually a missing component Cristina. Hence, all the worrying about the process. I'm working on it (relaxation) but I am an A, after all. |

When you spit into the tube...you can also lightly tap the bottom of it on a hard surface. It will help dissolve some of the bubbles that have formed. Debra |

You can massage the Paratoid Salivary glands in the cheeks in front of the ears, that can get things going a bit. Thinking about lemons can do it too, in certain cases.... |

Thanks for all your suggestions... Mission accomplished! Once I heard the initial tips such as being hydrated, no coffee, toothpaste, etc. I knew Cristina was right about the relaxing part. Honestly, all I needed to do was relax and collect the sample. I filled the collection tube up rather quickly with over 5ml liquid and only a minute amount of foam at the top. Had I not worried so much about the process I would have already gotten my results by now. Thanks again! |

If you checked the box to receive your results on line you can check the progress to make sure the lab received the sample and get your results quicker. |

Rob, I know exactly what you were going through! I worried about it for days before. It took me 15 minutes to get only a little over 3 ml and there were little bubbles on top Sure hope it takes! I'm betting you are a nonnie and I am a secretor |

I did that thanks to your suggestion a couple weeks ago - thumbs up! Am I remembering correcting that it took about 8 days to receive your results?

It's just the worrying part that is so ridiculous. I was collecting saliva in another container and it appeared very foamy so I was concerned about messing the test up. Once I tried it in the actual collection tube this morning I had a good laugh at my own expense. People have legit concerns and worries and here I am worried whether or not I'd be able to collect enough liquid saliva. Oy vey! |

I'm doing so well on the BT/diabetes protocol I question whether or not I might actually be a secretor, after all. Although my early life (infantry, childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, mid adulthood) say otherwise.

Yes, I remembered that but I figured I'd check again anyway. Much to my surprise, the results are in... Beating of the drum begins. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... . .. .. ... . .. .. ... Maybe I should have taken up the first bet offered. Color me shocked: Really surprised. I guess you'll have to keep that exclusive club house seat warm for someone else. |

I was surprised when mine said that as well... It told me that I had all of my problems due to previous injuries and wrong food intake. I have been eating right and healing to relieve the issues. It seems to be working, although not always comfortable... |

OK now I find myself questioning the lab. They received it on the 30th and completed the analysis three days later on the 3rd, a Saturday before a national holiday? There's no lapse in time for the holiday whatsoever. Is it normal to receive your lab results in five days with a holiday included in the that time span? |

They probably wanted to process as many tests as possible before the long weekend. Hopefully cajun has verified when the lab received the sample. |

Doesn't appear they took a long weekend if they processed on Sat and delivered results on Monday. Although I'm going with it. It seems like the SEC diet has been working well for me anyway. It just makes me question all the countless illnesses from infantry throughout adulthood. |

Thanks, Joe! We did catch some good sized catfish(YUK) and Bass! Very hot 40 miles north of Yuma/Algodones...and an earthquake thrown in the mix! The good news is when we got home my secretor status was in the mailbox! I am a secretor. No more bets, huh Rob? Now I need to save for SWAMI! |

Scroll all the way down past the A1/A2 stuff you'll find A Sec. It's the last option before the AB categories come up. Yeah, no doubt about the bets cajun. I would have bet the bank that I was a nonnie, had I been a betting man. |

Thanks, Rob! Just curious...how long have you been diabetic? My Mom (A+ and tiny) gained weight in late middle age and was told she was considered a diabetic due to that only. She lost weight over a period of a few years and now at 79 is not diabetic anymore.( She didn't take any meds..just watched her diet.) We have traced her side of the family ( mostly all French ) pretty far back and there are no records, memories, or indications of any diabetes anywhere. |

I've suspected it for a number of years now but finally got an elevated glucose reading with my last blood panel back in April. Years ago, I had elevated triglycerides but the MD's advice was to watch my sweets. He didn't do any further investigating.
I'm still not claiming the disease, however. I've not officially been diagnosed with pre, type 1 or type 2 diabetes yet. I basically got my lab results back and decided I would fight this on my own. Some people may say I'm playing Russian roulette with my health but I've taken some rather proactive steps in dealing with the conditions of the disease.
I immediately went out and got a BG monitor and started testing myself. I've kept a food and glucose diary since day 1. Initially I tested every morning upon waking, and both 1 and 2 hours after meals. Eating small meals throughout the day I was testing upwards of 10-15 x per day at first. Today, I have a pretty good feel for when my BG drops and when it is elevated so I test much less frequently. I continue to do the readings upon waking and prior to going to sleep and usually don't test during the day unless I feel other than optimal.
I had already discovered the BTD book prior to receiving my lab results so I knew what my plan of action would be. I then discovered Dr. D'Adamo's Diabetes protocol book and started following it immediately. I instantly eliminated all avoids from my diet and started adding the super-beneficial foods. This way of eating has really turned things around for me quickly.
I'm hopeful that I caught it in the early stages and that I can reverse any damage already done. |

Rob, High triglycerides are battled by everyone on my Moms side, her mother, sister and brother! Mine hang at 150 on every blood panel! My doctor said to watch the sweets, also. Since following the BTD, my normal cholesterol and glucose levels went down! Even since her weight loss my Mom does testing like you do. Kudos to you for "taking the reigns", very smart! You will reverse...and prosper! I am going to take a cue from you and try to only eat my super- beneficials and follow the allergy protocols more closely. |

Cajun, BTW, my triglycerides back in April were a mere 86! Years ago they were >200. I'm very healthy, great HDL/LDL numbers, overall cholesterol (152). Sure it takes a little work to do the testing and to be 100% compliant on the protocol but the pay off is well worth it. Feeling poorly is no longer an option for me. I am living proof; with incorporating more super-bennies into your diet and getting rid of the foods which poison you, you can reverse disease and illness. Best wishes you to you and your mom. |
