The FedEx guy will get it to Asheville overnight. It can stay unrefrigerated for several days, no problem.
The saliva secretor test is extremely reliable as done with the kit from NAP.
One can always find something to worry about if one wants to.

I was concerned that I'd be a non-secretor and get a report back that was in error indicating 'secretor' simply because there could've been some residual blood in the saliva from gingivitus bleeding gums (I'm old). The Lewis Antigen Blood Test costs about $54 plus $10 fee for drawing blood at LabCorp. |

I'm sure there is a possibility the Lewis Antigen Blood Test could be tainted as well. We do the best we can and try to avoid "analysis paralysis". It makes sense with bleeding gums the saliva test would not work. |

Thanks Denver..and thanks Major! I was so disgusted. My primary wouldn't do the sub group info test! I told them I'd pay for it but they gave me a song and a dance saying the "lab" didn't know what the tests were! So I can go to Lab Core and have it drawn there? That's great. I wanted to check my blood secretor status.. I had two salivas...both showed secretor. |

My saliva showed non-secretor and my blood showed secretor (just like the post was talking about). I feel like a nonnie.....no stomach flu and some quirks. I really don't want to pay again, but curious what the next test will show. I was also just told I'm a Warrior and can't duplicate it in SWAMI. I have nothing that fits with it. A little confused and frustrated, but I'll follow the diet and see how I feel. |

I had the same experience as nwiser. Same results. Dr. D's office manager told me the blood draw I had was more accurate. I did not ask if that was for me or if that was in general, as there are different combinations of Lewis that rule out and rule in secretor status.
Quoted Text
Lewis Phenotype ABH Secretor Status Le (a+b-) which has Lewis a antigen but not Lewis b Always ABH non-secretor Le (a-b+) which has Lewis b antigen but not Lewis a Always ABH secretor Le (a-b-) having neither Lewis a nor Lewis b Lewis outcome not a determinant of ABH secretor status. However, this variant is associated with its own unique metabolic consequences.
from http://www.dadamo.com/science_abh-lewis.htmI also think my saliva was somehow handled in error as it took much longer to follow up, it may have been lost. I could have made my spit wrong somehow as well. You have to follow directions, which I thought I did. I would suggest nwiser call back the office (since she had this done by Dr. Nash) to get a satisfactory explanation if she wants reassured. ---->If I were to do it again, I would have the same saliva test with NAP, if I didn't have bleeding gums. A test result of non-secretor status would prompt me to have a Lewis test to double check as nonnies have much more specific concerns. If I had secretor status come back from saliva and no bleeding gums and no issues with nonsecretor avoid foods (that are ok for secretors), then all would be well. Remember, secretors are the majority. A secretor positive status I would only call into question if you were still not doing well with the diet and presenting nonsecretor type issues.<---- With this approach, I think you can go forward confidently getting the information you desire. |

If I were to do it again, I would have the same saliva test with NAP
If you do, make sure you send the sample under a different name. A good lab should be able to reproduce the results many times over without having to cross reference your name/prior test results in their system. Saliva tests are NOT fool proof. |

I am satisfied with the results. I was giving an example of how I would I approach it if I were starting over. |

Because of these things, my plan has been to avoid all avoids in either column. Then, one by one, I thought I would try an avoid to see how I felt afterward, to see if I could determine my secretor status this way. |

Yeah. I probably need to stay away from the avoids for a year before I can detect a reaction?
I hope that it's a valid testing method... I'm a researcher. Always liked testing, etc. |

Oh my, I just posted my doubts on the "nonnie funhouse" thread. I have the sensory issues that go with an autistic spectrum disorder as well as severe skin allergies. I am definately introverted and intuitive. On the other hand, never had a cavity and I am 25. My results from the saliva test : secretor. Do you think there is more potential inaccuracy with the saliva indicating you are a secretor and you are not or vice-versa? |

The saliva test is very accurate, but if it was going to be wrong, it seems like getting a false secretor would be easier than a false nonnie... All it would take to get a false secretor is for there to be some blood in the saliva... In order to get a false nonnie, all type information would have to be destroyed somehow... |

I wouldn't get hung up on it unless you thought there was a good chance that you have blood in the saliva from injury in the mouth or bleeding gums. You didn't do it after brushing gums/teeth vigorously where you noticed bleeding? Remember, secretors are the majority.
Human error could account for an erroneous nonsecretor result. Not getting enough spit, too much froth, delay in delivery, misplacement, hot weather, etc. I am not saying that a nonsecretor result is inaccurate. I am saying, based on my experience, if I had a nonsecretor result and did not feel that it fit me--I would be more likely to question it versus the secretor result. As I said above, I was surprised to find out from the Lewis test that I was a secretor when the saliva test had indicated nonsecretor.
Go ahead with Lewis typing if you want to add more information to the mix. |

I don't know. I have mine and my husband's tests mailed from Hong Kong. It took about 4 days to arrive by express courier. Both of us turned out to be nonnies. But based on our traits, we believe the results to be accurate, despite the risks associated with the saliva having traveled a long distance |

I live in Central Florida, so I guess my results did not have to travel very far. There was no blood in my mouth when I took the saliva sample. Someday I would like to take the Lewis test, but I don't know what local lab I would go to for that. |

I sent my saliva from Finland, so not very near Now I got the results. I am secretor, so I think I can be 99,99 per cent sure about that because my body behaviour according my disease susceptibility and fitness of my teeth (I have caries in small amounts but since I started flossing they have stayed mainly the same) seems like secretor. Good bye, coconut oil |

My sample was drawn at noon (level 5 with no foam) and was delivered overnight air by 10:30 AM the next day to the lab. After 8 days I got my results and was shocked to see I was a "nonnie". I had convinced myself I was a secretor but I am satisfied that the labs results are accurate. |
