I was wondering about the 'white lines' on my finger prints...
I know what mine are from.. they are from working in the garden without gloves.. and doing lots of dishes.. (both dry out my hands and make them get dry, wrinkle. and sometimes crack.. I need to learn to wear gloves more)
I know if I really try to wear gloves for a week or so, and slather on the cream.. they go back to normal. (I've done this before)
its also mostly on my right hand..(right now, my left is completely normal) I'm right handed so its normally my right hand doing all the work.. (digging in dirt, wiping off counters, dishes)
so does Dr. D's suggestion of having weak digestion still comply?

I don't know the answer. I've noticed on my own hands, after shower, shampoo, washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen, my fingertips are deeply grooved from the fingertips in the direction of the wrist. But the "white lines", going sideways across the fingertips are more or less constant. They've been diminishing with the Genotype diet, as my gut health has been healing. |

if yours go back to normal when not working for a period of time, then I d say your gut is fine!
I use gloves and even so, my ridges are very weak |

Quoted from Genotype Diet Book:
"Your fingerprint patterns are pretty much fixed by the time you're born (which is why they're so useful to law enforcement). What does change, though, is the height of your fingerprint ridges, the texture of your fingers that give you fingerprints in the first place. Ridge height is dynamic, and it's often a very strong indicator of what's going on in your digestive system."
"Typically, the number of white lines increases with age as gut integrity continues to deteriorate. In many cases, these white lines begin to vanish with the maintenance of a gluten-free diet."
My belief is that you can't wear your fingerprints down by doing chores. |

I think she is talking about vertical white lines. |

up and down. not side to side... (in direction of the wrist, as Victoria said.)
DenverFoodie, have u ever worked in a garden with bare hands?
for me when I do [work in the garden] my hands dry out.. which is what causes the lines.. and if I let them dry out even more.. (like if I don't add cream that night) they crack.. I believe it is because my skin type isn't a heavy oil producer.. |

After reading my post again, even I don't understand what I was describing! (sorry for that convoluted sentence structure.) Let me try again: The white lines Dr. D is referring to are the side-to-side ones. They can be deep and numerous when our gut is in bad shape. (Mine were when I started the Genotype diet.) The lines, grooves, wrinkles that run fingertip toward the wrist are what I get when my hands are in water a lot. Those fade out after a couple of hours. They do not indicate bowel health. After having IBS for most of my life, I still have quite a few left to right lines, but they are either shrinking or getting more shallow. At any rate, I don't see them as clearly with the naked eye. Of course, there's always the chance my eyesight is getting worse! lol!! (not) Another thing I've noticed is that I could not see any of my fingerprints a couple of years ago. They are starting to appear! And that's a very good sign! |

It's been a long time since I worked in the garden without gloves. Actually over the last couple of months I have been wearing rubber gloves to do dishes because I have had a skin irritation. My lines definitely are horizontal and not vertical (in the direction of the wrist). |

Greetings all: And thanks for the clarification -- wrist to fingertip direction vs. side-to-side for white lines . . Now my question is what -- if anything -- do the vertical (wrist-to-fingertip) direction white lines mean. I have them all the time . ..not just after being in water Very interesting distinctions . . |

hmmmm..... could be hormone related.. or it could just be, because my hands dry out when I work without gloves.. which is often... lol gloves get in the way.. or they somehow get water in them.. and they get irritating and uncomfortable to wear. the 'dry out' lines look alot like 'water logged' lines.. except they don't go away for awhile.. it takes anywhere from a few days to a week.. depending how careful I am and how much cream I apply.. I am trying to be careful.. because I am getting my swami software soon, and I want to be able to see my finger prints!! I think my left hand has all sworls.. and I can now see my thumb print and pointer finger print.. they are both sworls thanks everyone. u have answered my question. so it is side to side.. 'horizontal lines' that show 'bowel lining health'.. ~Brittni |

Long lines, fingertips to wrist could be related to mild dehydration. |

hehe, maybe.. or just not a big skin oil producer.. some things u just can't help. its just genetic. (not epigenetic either) I inherited by dads skin.
my mom doesn't have a problem with dry skin, and we pretty much eat exactly alike. she actually has the opposite problem. she has oily skin.
So I am just going to stick with the idea that it is just because I dried them out from so much from working.. and that its not anything else. (right now its only on my 'working' hand, my right hand. I don't really dig or wipe things off with my left hand.)
thanks everyone for your replies!!

I have white lines all over most of my fingerprints, for years thought they were wrinkles. Now think otherwise. I followed the diet fairly well in the 2000s, they could be related to oats or sprouted wheat bread. Or, the 7 year on & off kefir experiment. Should never have tried that. |

Mine are disappearing and the mend is looking more rapid now. A year and a half ago, Dr. D said I looked like a bricklayer and they were some of the worst he'd seen. The prints are coming up more clear. |
