Hi! has anyone got any information, bar what is in the books, about B nonnies and their tolerance to carbohydrate. I would be very interested.

I am fine with moderate amounts of starchy carbs, if I eat them with protein but can't just have a meal of it on its own - i.e. no breakfasts just of say porridge.

I don't have any worries with digestion and "food combining", as long as I chew well.

Somewhere in one of the books.. B's have blood sugar issues, carbs contribute to swings in blood sugar.

I think they usually have a lot of white lines, on their prints.

With my rice I mix in ghee, sea salt & mozzarella.

I munch on rice cakes as a snack with no problems.

For breakfast I have a protein shake with carob powder.

Mrs G, I only have my own experience to share and I'm not saying it's right for all B non-secretors.  

10 years on the BTD and more than 2 years on the GTD, and I'm still learning how to work in harmony with my own body and deepen my individualized program for health.  During the past few months, a bout of digestive trouble prompted me to eliminate all grains from my diet.  Prior to that, I have only eaten beneficial or superfood grains for many years.  I was quite amazed at the changes that took place in my body when I made this change.

I was first thrown into a few weeks of adjustment, with joint aching and generalized inflammation.  After that, however, I noticed a distinct leveling out of my blood sugar level.  No cravings or crashes.  Steadier energy.  Definitely impressive stools!    Clearer and softer skin.  A little weight loss to bring me finally to the weight I was in my 20's.  (been working on this for a long time)

I eat plenty of vegetable carbs, and a wide variety of beneficial fats, including seeds and nuts, lamb a few times a week, salmon daily, sardines, eggs, lots of fresh vegetables.  It's working very well.

Victoria, I'm glad you eat sardines. I enjoy them too and they are very tasty. I'm glad I'm not alone because it's one of my favorite foods and sardines haven't been given enough credit in this world. In the movie Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, they make fun of sardines

Wow, ladies, I am not a B, but I know that us O's have carbohydrate difficulties also. I am eating very similarly to Victoria.  I started out no grains this past week.  I can't believe the difference it is making in the way I feel.  I can agree with everything Victoria said.  I am using nut flour if I feel the need for something baked (mostly almond).  I had problems in the past with most grains, even quinoa and amaranth.  My gut likes this adjustment and I do not miss the "gas".  Maybe eventually I will add back some rice, but I am planning on continuing this for the time being.  I have been trying to lose the same 20lbs for a very long time.  I have 13 to go right now.  

I say give no grains a try if you are having difficulties, and see if it helps....But remember your nuts and other veggies like squashes and maybe even celery root....Oh and I don't eat most potatoes either right now....

Oh, yes . . I forgot about the gas!  Out of sight, out of mind!

- but my experience is very similar to Victorias
I just feel better without the grains even the super /diamond ones

At times I still have spelt, oats and maybe a little rice- all diamond or superfoods
- but after a weekend in grain heaven/hell
I return to my no grain life I just work better without
This weekend I have had some spelt buns home made, and my blood sugar has just been up and down - and interesting enough it makes me constipated.

Victoria, Henriette do you consider quinoa, flaxmeal, lentil flour to be grains?  Do you use these or any nut / legume flour without repercussions?

I use flax often - I concider it a seed
Lentilflour I do nut use it is * dot in my swami
Quinoa - yes at times- It does not effect my body as much as spelt- rice etc.

Flax is a seed.  
Lentils are legumes.  
Quinoa is . . . . ummmm . . a grain.  A seed calling itself a grain?  A unique grain that is really a seed?  I don't know.

I don't experiment with grains at all at this time, just because I am doing so much better without any of them.  Toward the end of my "grain career" I was eating steamed millet/quinoa mixed together.  If I decided to eat grain again, I would most likely start with quinoa because it seems so light and less "grain-like".  Yeah, I don't know if it's a seed or grain.  

The thing I'm really into right now is chia.  I eat 1/4 cup of it everyday, freshly ground, and it seems to be meeting the type of need that grain filled.  It is satisfying, filling and grounding.  I use it blended into my smoothies.  My daughter uses it as a flour, mixed with eggs and cooked into little griddle cakes that she uses instead of bread.

Oh, and on the subject of legumes, I have started eating Great Northern Beans a couple of times a week.  I don't combine them with meat, but they make a good light meal when I don't want meat.  I combine them with a ton of vegetables and season with curry, Himalayan salt, olive oil and ghee.  Lentils are just not on my food list, so I haven't eaten them in years.

well veggies do have lots of fibres ( especially stuff like cabbage and rootveggies)
so do nuts and beans

I ONLY get constipated when I eat grains

Thank you. I do have very minimal grains, just a few spelt crackers and some millet puffs (tiny portion), I can't manage much else and definitely not a whole meal just of carbs.

You know the funny thing was that prior to
when I cut down on grains I always thought that I got enough fibres but was still constipated
- then I used a foodblog and realised that when I change my diet to more veggies instead of bread and pasta I actually got more fibres a day

I still eat small amounts of spelt - it is just so addictivce to eat grains.

I don't know if I am a secretor or not, but I can tell you I do have a problem with grains.  My blood sugar will be all over the place if I am not careful.  I only eat 2 grains... oats and rice.  But mostly I just eat oats.  I have to be careful with rice, I only eat a small amount (maybe 1/3 cup cooked) once a week if that.  But I do eat oats everyday. I love them and they don't upset my blood sugar.  But, I don't eat them like most people and I'm not sure if that makes a difference.  I don't cook oats.  I eat it raw.  I mix it in my yogurt or I just pour milk over raw oats and eat it like cereal out of a box.  Most people think I'm weird, but I love it this way.  The thick-rolled oats are very good, I love the texture...a bit crunchy and chewy at the same time.

There's a lot of insoluble fiber in fruits and vegetables, and this makes for a nicely formed soft stool.  

I'm not pushing a grain-free diet.  This would be against the bottom line of this program, which is Human Individuality.  Some folks might do very well on grains, and if eating the beneficial and superfood grains agree with their systems, I say "Go for it!"  

I just don't have a happy gut on grains.  It's a daily struggle to keep the balance and once I stopped grains, my digestion/elimination processes are much happier!

I must find that. My B son's BS is 148. He's 20 years old. I want him to be more responsible about taking care of his health. I tried to see if he would go to the university to get genotyped and a diet. He wasn't very agreeable about it.

Eggs are great for type B and make a great breakfast with some fresh blueberries or banana.  Yogurt with fruit could be an option.  I will sometimes eat some of the meat and veggies from last nights dinner in the morning.  Remember that breakfast doesn't have to be traditional breakfast foods!   And lucky you are type B because we have so many well-rounded choices!

And I know that it's a grain, but I do eat one piece Ezekiel bread/toast with butter in the morning once in a great while when I am in the mood for something different and it doesn't seem to effect my blood sugar.  You could try it (if you haven't already) and see how it works for you.

I meant to say "soluble fiber".  But as I checked, I see that there is plenty of both.  It's a win/win situation!

I've always preferred liquid breakfasts.  Well, years ago, I loved eating cereal with milk, but that fell by the wayside!   But for more than a decade, I have a big smoothie for breakfast.  

I'll make up a quart of it.  One pint is my breakfast, followed by a big mug of Genmaicha Tea and the second pint is for brunch, a couple of hours later.  Then my main meal will be in the early afteroon, and my supper will be 3 1/2 to 4 hours before bed.

Recipe is for a generous 4 Cups Smoothie:

1 1/2 cup Pineapple Juice
1/8 C filtered Water
10 oz plain Yogurt (I use goat yogurt)
1/4 C ground Chia Seeds (or 3 Tb ground Chia and 2 Tb ground Flax)
1 C frozen blueberries
1/2 C frozen sweet cherries
1 rounded Tb Lecithin
1 tsp High Lignan Flax Oil
1 tsp ProBerry Liquid
1 tsp Elderberry extract

Sometimes I'll add other things, such as ARA6 (Dr. D's Larch Fiber powder); or some type of powdered green food, such as wheat grass, barley grass or Harmonia.

This drink is one of my favorite meals of the day, and it's very satisfying.

I mix

right now I like full fat yoghurt with some kind of berries- sometimes as a smothie-. but it NEEDS to be fullfat! or my blodsugar crash. I use a special danish organic yoghurt with extra protein  but it could me filmjølk( cultured milk) or kefir as well.

I really don´t like sweet yoghurts
and I aim for yoghurts made of
milk from grassfed organic cows and yoghurt culture and nothing added.
As I recall in US yoghurt can contain lots of fillers and c**p.

In winter I often prefer eggs with veggies (That is what my O type eats all year round)

Sunday I sometimes have bread or pancakes.

I summertime I often like to have a mixed salad with watermelon and feta or mozzarella cheese
or Cottagecheese/ricottabased breakfast

I think all grains are the seed of the plant...  I'm not sure where the distinction is between seeds and grains.

We use Mountain High brand Original Plain yogurt - ingredients: Whole milk, nonfat milk, cream, pectin and the live cultures.

Most other commercial yogurt is full of sugars, colors, etc...
