Hi! Just found out I am a B nonnie. I am a bit confused about the Tomato issue. Apparently we can have. I am not sure about this. If I drink tomato juice, I always get a really bad tummy???? Perhaps it is something else in the juice and not the tomator - perhaps fructose, as they same thing happens when I drink things with added fructose?

So much to learn!

Tomato as a nonnie is a neutral for B's.   Tomato juice is also listed as a neutral, but there is something that happens in the processing of foods when transformed into juices.  It may give you trouble as a B nonnie and not give another B nonnie trouble.  It will depend on if it is homemade or factory processed also.  Watch out for citric acid...doesn't always mean it comes from a citrus fruit.  It can mean it comes from corn.  Remember, we are all individuals and we all react in different ways to certain foods.  Dr. D is giving us guidelines to follow and we can still have reactions to things that may be tested okay for each individual blood type.

Check this out on corn.  http://www.dadamo.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-GC/m-1171902013/

I hate tomatoes so I avoided them before going on the BTD.  Both my son & I are B’s but he’s a Nomad and I’m an Explorer.  Tomatoes are black dots on both GTDs.  Tomato juice is a total avoid on both.   But when I did my Swami, tomato is now neutral and the juice is a black dot.  The only way I’ll eat anything with tomatoes in it is if it is in a sauce that has been simmered for at least 8 hours.  When I eat pizza I usually scrap off as much of it as possible.  Some pizza sauces are worse than others like the ones that must come out of a can.  Even the remnants of tomato make me cringe if it was put on a salad and I removed it.  Tomatoes have this acidy taste to me.

I hate raw tomatoes, but tomato-based sauces are nice.  Raw tomatoes upset my stomach but cooked ones are no problem.  You will have to experiment for yourself, and be sure there isn't anything else in the sauce that could be troubling you.  (FYI tomatoes are a dot for this Nomad, but I have been allowing them as part of the effort to up my calorie intake.)

It's funny, because I thought cooking them actually makes them more acidic.  Interesting.  I love tomatoes.  I didn't use to like them as a kid, but I like them very much now.

Maybe it's not the acidity that is the problem for me!

My AB Father loved tomatoes and tried very hard to get me to eat them.  To this day if someone put down a bowl of tomatoes soup near me, I gag.  So that part is psychological.  But I know immediately if I am eating a piece of lettuce that has a drop of the juice of a raw tomato on it or the seed.  I totally HATE the taste of it.

Wow, that's extreme!!

Yeah TJ, whatever it is, who knows, but don't eat it if it makes you feel bad.  I think AB's are the only ones who are supposed to be able to have it, BTD wise.  I'm not sure about the GTD's.   I know they're a black dot for Teachers.
