My roommate is pretty sick and tired of it...
One friend said Zinc, so I am suggesting calf liver, beef tenderloin, or lamb lion for that. I also think ARA6 might be a good idea.
I have not bought peanut butter (he loves it) and took away the coconut oil (use it for my face in my Theatrical Makeup class). I also do not think the kidney beans, adzuki beans, or tofu helped him any at all that are all timed around the time he got sick. He gets annoyed when I make the connection because he likes to eat everything but never personally buys wheat.
He has had candida. I mean he is positive on the spit test and lots of cranberry supposedly improved his sex life a lot. He does eat various forms of sugar and sometimes wheat (he likes to eat things offered to him even though he knows wheat makes him feel horrible and have super inconsistent energy).
Any ways anyone else got a few ideas of food items I can purpose to concentrate on? |

Mono? Good luck. I've had it and don't want to go there again. |

Your roommate doesn't sound like he's that sick of his mono that he is willing to change. Until that happens, it's going to be a long road back to good health. Sorry for the downer. |

Is he too sick to eat normal foods? I'm not sure if I should be suggesting "strength building heavy meals", or light, "easy to eat when you're queasy and sick" kinds of foods. In any case, chicken broth (or turkey broth or beef broth or any bone broth really) is both easy to eat AND strengthening. Is he taking lots of vitamin C? |

He eats lots of cranberries (unfortunately that have sunflower oil on them with some apple concentrate)
He can eat normal meals but it is hard so he has a tendency to eat simple ones with less vegetables.
I am considering getting him some Deflect or telling him to try Bladderwhack or ARA6.
Also maybe it is just an unfortunate circumstance that he does not want a cure that means he has to refine his diet. I know he gets turned off by my comments on what he eats, but he also bitches about certain things like weight etc... He wants to be able to accept food that people offer to him. I think those people can shove it if it is going to hurt me and are lame if that disrupts our relationship.
He went to the doctor looking for some sort of help because of the recent increase in swelling. The doctor is going to tell him how the swelling is occurring and give him some stupid advice that might have a small chance of helping or worst of all anti-biotics maybe. I have a new strategy of explaining that his body should be doing the job of clearing the mono out, it is not food that does it, and so he needs to support his body to be as healthy as possible. He does not like the idea of eating more than one meal with meat a day. He often forgoes it and eats a lot of carbohydrates (a lot in my mind especially for type O most likely Gatherer).
It seems like if I can make a winning argument he might listen. I think he either believes I am full of lies or he is afriad of the truth. He wanted to try the diet once before but never ever did. He refused to abstain from certain foods, claimed he needed more carbohydrates (candida?!). Although the fittest with most muscle and leanest he has ever been was on a diet of buffalo, vegetables, eggs, and millet for like two weeks and a small mix after and before. |

One problem with mono is that it can make it hard to digest fats for a while. Stick with lean meats and broths, as fattier foods may cause some nausea and such. Some explorer superfoods may be helpful, to tune up the liver. Brown rice, whole compliant grains, root vegetables, and other foods that help clear out toxins would all help. Perhaps the explorer cleanse from the GTD book (it's the most gentle liver cleanse I've found, but perhaps do the gentlest version the first time, leaving out the lemon juice/olive oil step, just to be sure it's good and gentle).
I didn't know of BTD when I had mono, and the whole thing really threw my body out of balance, (and I feel it triggered celiac disease, along with a bunch of other autoimmune things). I wish I'd been avoiding wheat! Deflect would have been great too.
Definitely focus on avoiding wheat as much as possible, if only one change can be pushed, that would be the one. |
