I am going for my annual physical and want to be sure I get all my bases covered relative to blood testing; any advice |

Be nice to the nurse or technician and don't move when the needle is going in or out! |

Last time I had a blood test done, a few years ago, cholesterol reading was not automatically part of the test and my physician was not aware of that change so I didn't get my cholesterol levels. This may vary but it's worth checking. Lisa |

Ask for a Lipid profile: this will give you cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL, LDL. And a Comprehensive Metabolic Profile: this will give you- glucose, electrolytes, liver and kidney function. If concerned about thyroid (don't know if this is an issue for you) get a FreeT4 and a FreeT3. Hope this helps. |

And Vit D levels, too.
If your appointment is in the morning, try to go in fasting so they don't make you come back another day for the blood draw. Wear as few clothes as possible (lightweight shorts and a tank work) and flip-flops so you can slip them off before you get up on those scales. Stand up nice and straight when they check your height. And ask to sit so your feet rest on the floor when they check your bloodpressure, preferably by a homelier looking nurse (that's always my grandpa's advice).
Also ask to have a copy of your results, as well as a copy of the last ones you had done. It's nice to be able to compare them, especially if you're right on the edge of being high/normal or low/normal in an area because a lot of times the docs won't even mention there might be a problem looming until you're over the line one way or the other. |

Thanks Kitty, I have this noted now. And being an O nonnie I do want my thyroid checked... I also told her I wanted a complete adrenal analysis. |
