Since 0-negative has no antigens on a blood type test, how could they be a secretor if there are no antigens?

Is it possible that O-negs can be secretors?

Rh is a different system that measures the presence (or absence) of several Rh factors.

Blood will show antigens.

It is the lask of antigens in secreted fluids (not blood) that indicates one is a non-secretor. The secretor test commonly uses saliva but can be done with other secretions.

I must have gotten my info crossed then.  I thought that O doesn't have antigens like A or B blood does.  So O DOES have O antigens, then?

AHA!  I remember reading about fucose and bladderwrack in regards to H. Pylori ulcer bacteria (and how they love BT-0, so give them a dose of the fucose in bladderwrack!).

Thanks, Lloyd for informing me that it's actually the antigen of our bloodtype, too.  It completely makes sense now and actually brings together that H.Pylori/fucose information.

FYI,
the fucose sugar antigen serves as base for all other BTs!

this is the reason BT O is also called the universal donor.

as opposed to ABs which are universal blood recipients.

here s more on non secretor status

Ok, so since fucose is the base of all blood types and Type O is the Universal, then Type O is the base for all other blood types?  (kinda-sorta

Just wondering if my line of reasoning is.. well, in line or out of line

as far as antigen is concerned, yes.
the base sugar for all BTs is fucose

Hi Sparrow,

I think you will find that blood type O as a group is not the universal donor but only type O negative.

You are in fact a universal donor being Rh negative and anyone can receive your blood, but you on the other hand cannot receive any other type of blood not even O positive blood.
