OK I was reading through some of the stuff on the message board today and one thing in particular caught my eye and then I was interupted. When I returned to read the post I couldn't find it. I think I read on one thread here that we are not suppose to be drinking beverages with meals. Stop them 30 minutes prior and don't have any until 2 hours after. How did I miss this in all of the books I read in regards to the BTD? Anyone that has info regarding this please speak up. If this is the case, I have not been as compliant as I thought I have been. I don't drink beverages with meals but the 2 hours after rule (that I didn't know about) has been broken daily. |

I never knew that either, hmm, I always have wine with dinner, and if I waited two hours after dinner to drink anything I'd be up past my bedtime. |

Ahhhh haaaa, I knew I saw it somewhere. Thanks Lola. I must have come across it doing something on this website today.
I am curious how many people follow this rule completely and how many didn't know about it. |

that's disppointing. Well we drink only a few sips during meals to get things down. But I do drink about 6 ounces of grapefruit juice with breakfast....
oh well...
what will happen? seriously... do I loose out on properly digested food? |

As an A with low stomach acid I need no water in my meals but a sip or small cup of tea or pineapple juice (grapefruit less effective) helps my digestion. I do not wait two hours, but just one hour or something more. I really do not deal well with water with meals in my tummy. Water and lemon is another option for me in small doses during meals. |

I don't drink with meals, and try to leave at least 20 min on either side. The 2 hour wait after a meal doesn't work for me now, because I eat so frequently. The scheduling of all that would make me crazy. And I am already crazy enough. |

I've found that if I drink anything a half hour before eating, or earlier than an hour after eating, I bloat like crazy. Cold drinks make the problem even worse. So I just stay away from drinks until long after dinner. If I'm really thirsty before or after meals I'll sip a little room temperature spring water, just a mouthful or two, and that works fine.
I avoid ice in my drinks now too. Very cold drinks make my heart pound and give me headaches. I prefer room temperature or cool.

When I grew up - when we had dinner at my paternal grandparents there were no drinks with meals and I hated it The idea was NOT to fill up with water/milk instead of eating good food - yep farmers where food meant a lot.
Not just farmers - my mother followed this policy as well...and I now have an aversion against all 'dry' food and am not happy unless I have a small glass of something by the side of my plate... However I have large drinks away from meals. |

A meal just doesn't seem complete if I don't have something to drink with it! It's not satisfying at all. I just can't picture a meal without glasses set up next to the plates. |
