Hi there, I have just got this wonderful book LR4YT and I am shocked to read about the dangers of higher cortisol levels in type As. I am a Type A and I lost most of my hair in twenties only. I am just thinking aloud here. Is it possible that higher-than-normal cortisol level in my body all the time, stopped the skin regeneration completely and that triggered hair loss? After all, hair grows out of skin only !!!! |

I haven't had any thinning of my hair until I hit 50..and I noticed my hair had thinned out from female aging..which I read is normal. |

I placed one vote for the two type A males in my family who are not bald, but on the other hand I know another type A who is bald. I think he started getting thinner while still in his 30's |

Well, balding might be genetic and not particularly blood type or cortisol related because both of my A sons and my A husband started getting that male pattern baldness in their 30s. So that's how I voted on their behalf. My youngest son who is turning 40 this year already had a hair transplant to fill in around his receding hairline. My oldest son is just dealing with the deeply receding hairline and the evidence of a balding spot on the top of his head. My grandfather had this balding pattern....My father in law had this pattern...and so did my own father. I just think the genetics for male pattern baldness are very much a part of my son's genetics. http://www.essortment.com/all/malepatternbal_rcad.htm |

Chloe, isn't it possible that what we take as baldness pattern, is actually a work of higher basal cortisol? Before asking for poll, I assumed that baldness is problem with males generally.. I liked Dr.Lam's article on cortisol very much. very informative.. Today I had early breakfast to break the fast !!! and Had salty water in the morning.. If I grow few new hair I would assume my doubt is correct. |

Lola, you're an O. O's are healthier than A's. My dad, (AB+), had a full head of hair even until he died at 68. My mother (A+) had thinning hair, and a bald spot in the back of her head. She also had hypothyrodism (got it in her late 60's or early 70s') which didn't help in her older years..Even on Synthroid, her hair was still thinner with a bald spot. Looks like I take 1/2 and 1/2 after each.. Ribbit when I was 31, I had lots and lots of hair too. |

Oh, contrare'! Hair loss is just as much a problem for women. You don't notice it because women wear wigs and hair extensions and weaves where, men don't bother doing too much about it. |

Ditto Lola, too much sugar and fats make our scalp prone to dermatitis and seborrhea and this worsen for men the bad dihydrotestosterone oxidized on the follicles, here it is male baldness and female one is similar with thyroid and iron issues as a plus. May be sugar has also a link with hormonal imbalance, but here I have no detailed data. Maria Giovanna |

My dad died at age 61 with a full, thick head of gorgeous hair-- he was a type A so I voted for him. |

I have heard that an eastern or mediterranean gene makes testosterone oxidized (perhaps Dihydrotestosterone) in hair follicles and is the culprit of male baldness, so it could not be strictly an A thing, but just that As are common as blood group in many areas of the world |

Here's a qeustion. Can the genes that govern the hair, be affected by diet the same way that the immune genes can be affected by diet? |

Damn. I'm a 54 yr old female and I started massively shedding at age 47, and at the onset of menopause.
I am still DESPERATELY trying to solve my problem because I am STILL shedding and fear I will look like those smilies faces soon. Help!
I am ordering the secretor test in hopes of getting a better handle on my situation and an answer. I cry every day about my hair. It is now so bad that you can see through my scalp, and is so embarrassing.
I wonder if there is a connection between cortisol and baldness? I know I also have insomnia, can't fall asleep and only sleep an hour our two. It's terrible. I tried Melatonin, etc. Ugh! |

My dad was a Type A bald most of his life, my husband is type A thinned out very young, my son suspect Type A (but loves a lot of meat and chilli) and his hair has been receding for a while now. He is only 30yrs old. I am type A, my hair has been very thick all my life (I have eating meat, but also been vegetarian on and off most of my life). I did get periods of massive shedding, but my thickness held. Maybe those Vegetarian periods, which since I have been here I learnt to be the appropriate diet for my type, boosted my good genes and held my bad hair receding genes in check long enough to keep my mane. After all, that is what we are here doing, yes, we may carry those hereditary genes within us, but, here we are shown the way to hold them in check and resetting them for our benefit. We have the power. Lets use it. |

Hey Rosebud, here is an old thread from you regarding hairloss. How did all the things you where doing work out MD's ND's tests etc? I thought I read somewhere long ago that you where getting a secretor test I guess you never did . I hope by now you are taking some probiotics that are right for your type. http://www.dadamo.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?m-1233501601/s-2/#num2 How about just taking some biotin 8mg? I also know we discussed that you needed a healthy gut to absorb these nutrients for your hair. |

Most of us are forgetting one VERY important fact. Take a look at Dr D!
So much for the theory of following the BTD and hair loss. It's definitely genetic.
I have been closely following the BTD and my hair still falls out. Nothing will stop it. Nothing.
Is it normal for women to shed and start balding, and should we just blame it on her age? Absolutely not! It is definitely NOT normal. However, it is very difficult to know what is really causing because so many factors play a part. I wish I knew the answer and had the cure, because I would be a billionaire!
I belong to a women's hair loss forum, and there are hundreds of thousand of women suffering from this ailment with no cure in site. I have belonged to the forum for 8 years now and none of us have found a cure, and we still continue to shed. I think Oprah needs to put out requests for our plea and we would get enough interest, and possibly a solution. |

Good point. Or, maybe it IS related to BT... If hair is made of protein (I think it is) and if hair protein is related to the consumption of protein (I have no idea if it is or isn't), then maybe BT A's are supposed to be bald! And maybe all those bald O's are not getting enough protein? |
