Since finding the live right and ER diets around the year 2000, I've lost all the weight (by 2004) and now I've gained it back again. I've drifted from compliance when I gained it back. But I have a feeling overindulging in meat hasn't helped. I crave beef (in particular bone in ribeyes) all the time. And over the last several years I've gradually gotten to the point where I don't deny myself a steak or some other form of red meat or chicken at almost every meal. And many times meat is the only thing I eat at a meal.
I think I may have even gotten toxoplasmosis from not being careful with thoroughly cooking my steaks. I've asked my doctor at the VA to schedule a blood test for it and I'm now trying to cut back on my meat consumption. And because it's the VA I now have to wait a month if I can even get them to administer the blood test. Any input on meat consumption (or overconsumption) or toxoplasmosis would be appreciated. Thanks

Grain fed beef or grass fed beef? Grass fed beef is important. Toxoplasmosis antibodies in the blood would not mean you actually have an active infection, but had had the infection. Just like I have antibodies to Chickenpox in my blood but do not have the active infection.
Did you have symptoms of toxoplasmosis? |

It is really not very common in beef: Transmission Transmission may occur through: Ingestion of raw or partly cooked meat, especially pork, lamb, or venison containing Toxoplasma cysts.
Infection prevalence in countries where undercooked meat is traditionally eaten has been related to this transmission method.
Oocysts may also be ingested during hand-to-mouth contact after handling undercooked meat, or from using knives, utensils, or cutting boards contaminated by raw meat.[7]
Ingestion of contaminated cat faeces. This can occur through hand-to-mouth contact following gardening, cleaning a cat's litter box, contact with children's sandpits, or touching anything that has come into contact with cat faeces.
Drinking water contaminated with Toxoplasma. |

If you like steak, how about switching to a lower fat cut? The seven leanest cuts are: eye round, top round, round tip, top sirloin, bottom round, top loin, and tenderloin. Do you really enjoy the fat off the steak? If so you may find that ghee and other diamond fats help stave off the desire. Hunters have 3-9 tablespoons of fats and oils weekly.
What would make veggies more appealing to you? Does a side of kale & sweet potato or enoki mushrooms & onions tempt your taste buds?
Do you consume fruits or do you prefer sugars as in chocolate and sweeteners.
As you add other foods to your diet, I believe that your consumption of meat will go down naturally.
What is your typical breakfast?
Shifting things around a bit may change your tastes.

.. Haven't yet been diagnosed with it. I just read about it and see some of my synmptoms there. I just eat whatever steaks are on sale. I guess that's wrong? Are you saying I may be able to eat beef 24/7 like I want it I eat the right kind? That'll work for me.. |

Yea I really enjoy the fat. But I don't get carried away when I pick out the steaks. In other words I get a decent marbling but not too much . I eat onions with every cut of meat. The only thing I think I love as much as meat is onions. I would eat a sweet potato but I'm busy muc of the year and they take forever and I don't do microwaves. Mebbe mushrooms...?! For breakfast > Steak and onions. It's not a huge steak if I can find the 2 ribeyes per pound cut I'll eat one of those 8 oz, onions and some pineapple juice. I also eat 2 or 3 bananas a day and some pumpkin seeds when I have them ; And I like pam's cookies the gluten free made with rice flour.. So, I guess I do eat 'some' other things |

Not not at all. I don't go near them. Maybe I'm just a hypocondriac. But I can't seem to lose this weight. Before on LR it fell off.. |

no animals at all since I read hulda clarks cure for all diseases back in 1999. Since I read that and LR I think I stopped reading anything else becasue those 2 were working for me big time. I do eat provolone or american cheese to excess when I have it. But I've put that down lately I do appreciate all the ideas. I purchased some cloves today to make some capsules and I got some info on some EDS skin testing for parasites and such. So, I guess I'll spring for 100 bucks to see if they can point me back on the right path. |

Red meat or chicken at every meal is too much meat, no? GTD book says red meat 3 - 5 times per week. I noticed I feel better when I dont eat red meat every day (although Im still happy to). Suggest to try some good fish or beans - delicious and cheap. Maybe some green veg as well |

I think you're right. I only had scrambled eggs yesterday for protien and I feel better than I have in quite awhile and some weight came off already. Now I hope I don't overcorrect. (< more hypocodria?) |

But wasn't it the milkmaids who didn't get smallpox because they were working around the animals all day? Just askin'. I need to be educated here. |

Ribbit, the milk maids contracted a mild form of a virus called "cow pox" that immunized them: Cowpox is a disease of the skin that is caused by a virus known as the Cowpox virus. The pox is related to the vaccinia virus, and got its name from dairymaids touching the udders of infected cows. The ailment manifests itself in the form of red blisters and is transmitted by touch from infected animals to humans. When it is gone, the person is immune to smallpox. This is from "Wikipedia"
I had heard of it before, it is where "milk maid complexion" came from, milkmaids did not get small pox and did not get ugly pock marks on their faces. |
