I was just curious.......is there a way to get a good gauge of your secretor status, without taking the official test? I have heard of getting average pulse rate (before rising out of bed) over a week, to get the norm. Then eat a food you suspect you have a sensitivity to, and if your pulse goes up within a certain range like 20 minutes after you eat....chances are high you are sensitive.
Anyone else done this? Any other ideas?
Sorry, times are tight.
Thanks, Carolinagirl |

no..... the test can be done by saliva or blood.....
that you mention is more allergy testing, has little to do with the Lewis test. |

They sayyou really need the test, but if the secretor diet isn't working, it can't hurt to try the 'nonnie' diet for a while. I did that & now am doing the gatherer GTD. I think I am a nonnie because of certain things, but there is still a lingering doubt. I ordered the test, but sometinmes have a coughing problem in the AM or I forget or I am not sure where to drop it off for delivery. |

I saved pennies till I had the money for the test. We never tested the rest of the family though. I was just desperate to know one way or the other. When I first put my AB daughter on the diet, I did secretor. Several months later I switched her to the nonnie diet, just to try it, and her red allergic-looking eye circles went away. (Unfortunately they're back, and have been since Thanksgiving, but I'm not sure what's caused it.) She did a lot better on the nonnie diet. So you have nothing to lose by giving it a shot and seeing if it's better, worse, or no different. |

Instead of ordering the test, can we also figure out the secretor/non-secretor status by going to a doctor? Has anyone done that? Or do you have to order the saliva test kit? |

It would be more expensive having a doctor do the test for you and send it to a lab. |

I have another question, according to what I've read about non-secretors, they are more prone to alcoholisms and are more susceptable to diseases than secretors. I have no taste for alcohol what so ever, let alone enjoying it, and I rarely get sick. Does this mean that I'm more likely a secretor? |

Joey: You are more likely a secretor, because 80% of the population are secretors. I scarcely drink at all and have never been "drunk" from alcohol. Until I had food poisoning several years ago, I had scarcely been sick since childhood. Yet my tests showed I was a nonsecretor. One really does need to test to determine secretor status. http://www.4yourtype.com/prodinfo.asp?number=TE002 |

But you said it yourself that you have never been drunk or succumbed to alcoholism and rarely ever gotten sick. But suprisingly, you're tested as a "nonnie". Wouldn't the same apply to me as well? Maybe I might be a "nonnie" as well. I hope not, but knowing my luck I might be one. |

You have to call them first to get confirmation, is that correct? I live in New York as well. What should I do? |

Not quite sure where to post this information, but it is essentially for Australians only who have reservations about doing the saliva test which some people find takes quite a few weeks. The alternative of the Lewis test is available at Symbion Laverty path collection centres, the blood sample is couriered to a centre such as that at North Ryde and the result in my experience is available within a few days. Unfortunately it is necessary to have a Dr or Naturopath referal for this test. The price is as yet unknown, but may be in the $30--70 range. I will inform you when we get the bill. |
