Hi,

I was tested by a lab many years ago as AB-. I began following the AB- diet this summer and refining it with the Diabetes specific book.  Most of the AB Avoids seemed applicable for me, except the red meat, which, being an Atkins dieter for 30 years, I feel better from it and have eaten plenty over the years. After a while off of it, I feel out of sorts and feel better when eating.

I just tested my blood using the Dr. D'Adamo blood kit.  It shows I'm B+.  Can your blood type change?

Is it possible I'm mostly B with a little A and that only a professional lab test can detect this?   On the test card, there is absolutely no A agglutinate. How accurate is the D'Adamo blood test?  

I guess I need to have another lab test to be sure.  Comparing the B and AB diabetes diets/supplements, many similarities, but some key foods I eat are opposites:  tofu & peanuts goes from Super Beneficial to Avoid. Beef & liver are recommended while not on AB diet.

Should I return all my tofu to Costco?

Your blood type is not going to change, unless you had a bone marrow transplant.

You should either be  B  or  AB  not mostly B.

The eldon cards are a standard and accurate method for determining blood type. They are used in medical clinics as well as in home test kits.


However, since you have two dfferent blood test results, I recommend donating blood to confirm your blood type.

Thank you for the info.  The more I compare the B to AB diet, the more B makes sense for me.  I will have another test to confirm.

It's worth double checking. The Eldon cards are pretty reliable but it is possible to mess up or get a bad card.   Donating blood is a great way to check since it performs a service as well. I think they also give you a basic cholesteral reading too.

If you are a B you get more meat, that is for sure!

If you are indeed a B, that could explain why you did well on Atkins with all that red meat and few grains.

Let us know what you find out if you decide to donate blood and get typed again.

I think the NAP Blood Test cards are the most accurate. I tested A+ on it and wanted to double check and I went to the doc and got stuck again and it came back A+ and then I went to see Dr. D and got stuck yet, again and I am still an A+.    And, welcome to the forum !

Thanks everyone for the info.  When I thought I was AB, I started eating tofu, which is Super Beneficial for AB, and my blood glucose readings dropped pretty dramatically vs. red meat.  Now, if I'm B, which I believe I am, tofu is Avoid.  

In the Diabetes-Fight It With Your Blood Type Diet book, Dr. D'Adamo writes for B: "Soy products should be de-emphasized, as they are rich in a class of enzymes that can interact negatively with the B antigen."

I'd rather keep my blood glucose lower for now as I already have diabetes complications - high fasting blood glucose, high fibrinogen (sticky blood), low testosterone, very high CRP showing inflammation meaning high risk of cardiovascular problems.  All other blood readings are normal.  

Any ideas how "bad" eating tofu might be over the long haul vs. keeping blood sugars lower?

May want to try other vegetable protein sources:

Kidney Beans, navy beans, or walnuts for example.



Also look at some of the B fish: Cod, Croaker, Flounder, Halibut, Monkfish, Perch, Pickerel, ...

Type O+ blogger, secretor afterall. Gluten intolerant. With two gluten intolerant sons:  A+ Secretor 10 yo (also fructose intolerant and slightly egg allergic), and  O- 7yo.

would def. go for a cross-lab-blood test; welcome on this board...it seems to be similar as with one of our very first B's who also was tested by a dr. as a B but became an AB by

I heard that cancer can change blood type but don't know if it's true or not.

Ah!  I can see that.

At least for my B husband, other than corn, soy is the worst thing he can ingest.  He would eat anything but soy, even if it meant sacrificing blood sugar. But I will say this: he used to have hypoglycemia, but after being on the BTD for just a short while it disappeared.  In fact, so did mine, and so did our AB daughter's.  Totally gone.

That might have been what happened in my case, doc could have told me AB and I heard a B.

If there is any confusion I would ditch the peanuts for a while first. If I remember correctly from the Live Right For Your Type peanuts can contribute to hypoglycemia in type B's. I would also add walnuts, oily fish like salmon and tuna as well as sardines and emphasize turkey and fish over beef. Beef is a neutral. Lamb and goat are better red meats than fish.

Hello JusRelax,
I'm an A dealing with diabetes with the help of the Diabetes book. Will have my 3 month test in about a month's times so am nervously hoping that my hard work over the past 2 months is paying off. Losing weight, eating less, checking blood glucose before every meal to see how much I can eat etc etc. Also upping mushrooms (in my case, may not be in yours). Good luck, keep in touch

My father (Warrior) had senile diabetes that he controlled with his diet. I think he also took some oral insulin? Is there such a medication?  After he retired, he stopped exercising (walking) and sat on the couch all the time..He had high blood pressure and ended up with a terminal stroke.  I don't have high blood pressure, so I'm wondering if strict adherence to the W diet will prevent senile diabetes for me..hope..

Of course eating for your type will help to avoid diabetes. It may take time, but BTD/GTD work!!  Proper activity is important, too.

Hi Mayflowers...I could not say if you will be diabetes prone due to inheritance, but a regular blood glucose test would be a good way to give a quick indication if you are borderline. I have never heard of oral insulin, but Type 2 usually seems to take an oral capsule that assists. I was on the W diet for 10 months before my diagnosis, but I must confess that I was overeating ie not following portions, and also having some Avoids in the sweet line, and also 10 kilograms overweight. That explains my current motto below.Do keep an eye on it as prevention is so much better than cure, especially when there is rarely a cure according to many.
