I enjoyed reading through Dr. D'Adamo's response page. http://www.dadamo.com/critic.htm Its really a tool for us because the so-called critics don't bother to look at the website in any detail or contact Dr. D, before declaring, "no scientific evidence" anyway. I'd be pleasantly surprised to see a third-party who realizes the diet isn't a threat to them. Like "I believe in a low-fat plant-based diet. It makes sense that a percentage of people tested are doing well on my diet, while others don't receive much benefit." or "I believe in a low-carb diet. That means my audience is 60% of the people out there. Great!" This doesn't seem entirely likely, but why not think positive. I finished Michael Pollan's Omnivore's Dilemma and he makes some excellent points about the diverse range of healthy, traditional diets as well as the complexity of ethical issues around food and, best of all, he takes the effort to live what he researches as a journalist should. I recommend it. -Chris |

Leading geneticist to write book on staying well Harper Collins "Body Language: How Personalized Medicine Will Change Your Life" in Fall 2009, http://www.mail.com/Article.aspx?articlepath=APNews\ click on the 'entertainment' tab wonder who gave him that idea of writing a book on staying well!! surely no one will ask him for scientific proof...... much less when writing his best-selling "The Language of God," |

Great discussion guys! But returning to the Response Page, I've been looking all over the site for a response to a specific criticism by Dr. Klaper not addressed in Dr. D's page http://www.dadamo.com/critic.htm .
Klaper says "2.) On page 151, D'Adamo states that, '...the primary sugar in the Type B antigen is D-galactosamine, the very same sugar present in milk.' Actually, the primary sugar present in milk is not D-galactosamine, but rather, lactose."
I don't have the first book handy, so I'm wondering if this is a misquote or if I'm not understanding the chemistry right. My understanding is that galactose is a component of both lactose and d-galactosamine. Perhaps more importantly, is a type B individual able to use lactose or galactose more efficiently because of the blood type antigen or are there other factors?
This should be one of the easier criticisms to dispell since it is more theoretical than experimental. |

Quoted Text
Dr D; On the other hand you have the professional critics, like the vegans Klaper and McMahon, who only begin their study of the whole thing in an effort to find something wrong that they can poke holes in. How much about a subject might you expect to discover under those circumstances?
Chris, I don t believe this you point out is relevant...... |

Forget the "critics" for a moment, then. My question in a nutshell is: What is the similarity between the Blood Type B antigen and the sugars present in milk, and how does this similarity benefit type B's who consume milk? I read this passage in the book, but would like to understand it better. |

My husband usually says.. " it is microchemistry" I think this is such a case.
If you search lactose in the individualist I think you will find and answer. |

If you look at the above statement, Dr. D didn't say D-galactosamine is the primary sugar present in milk. He just said that it's present in milk. |

You'll have a great time at the IfHI conference. Alas, I can't go to this one. But be prepared to have the surreal experience of being surrounded by people who are actually sane for a change. |
