I found out that I'm a Secretor and a positive. Two more steps of refinement and a little closer to compliancy. I took my 19 year old son grocery shopping last night and was shocked (more label reading) at ingredients in things that seem pretty straight forward. We were looking for some deli type sliced turkey and all of them seemed to have some trace ingredient that is an avoid. The whole thing was kind of discouraging for a young person with very little money living with several other young people. But we did find a few things and found that a lot of the O beneficials are foods he chooses anyway. The seed has been planted.

It is depressing that so many processed foods have so many avoids in them. Sigh. It's always best to prepare foods from scratch; but not everyone has that luxury. I'm glad that not only was the seed planted, but it sounds like you've been watering it, as well.
Congrats on finding out your results. It feels good to know for sure; then we can move forward.
Hang in there with finding good food. This time of year, farmer's markets are a good bet for fresh veggies and fruits, and you can often get free-range meats and eggs there too. Also, you might consider talking with your supermarket manager about getting in all-natural brands--most managers want to stock things their customers will buy (makes sense ) and you might be able to get better quality items that way.
When in doubt, stick with the outer aisles of the market--fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, butter and compliant bread, and some nuts and seeds. It's more work to make things from scratch, but well worth it in the end.

I can eat fresh food & use tons of salt & my BP is low normal. But anything ready-made seems to have tons of sodium & tastes bad. Even plain deli turkey sounds good, but tastes salty. Take time & things will get better. For your son, don't pressure him about trace amounts of avoids. He will slowly get the idea. It sounds like he agrees with the diet anyway. Being a secretor gives you more variety, so it is easier. I still haven't taken the test(but have it here), but after thinking I am a nonnie, I would be disappointed to find out if I were a secretor! I sure enjoyed those avocados as a nonnie. Now they are dots as a gatherer!! [I still have a little coughing, so I want that over with before I take the test.
