Type O's (zero antigens) are called "universal blood donors" because Type O can successfully give blood to other blood types. Does that also mean that Type A (for example) can successfully give blood to Type O without Type O rejecting it? |

No. Type O negtive is the universal donor. Type O's can only receive O blood. The universal receiver would be an AB positive. That blood type could receive blood from all blood types.

You are quite a universal donor Rex. The only people who cannot receive your blood would be an O negative.
However, the only people you can receive blood from are O positive. |

I hope I never need a transfusion but at least now I'm getting the picture that my blood can come from another O positive or from an O negative donor. Also, I can donate blood to every blood type except to O negative...do I have it right now? |

O Pos can safely give to O Pos, A Pos, B Pos, and AB Pos only as a last resort should it be given to O Neg, A Neg, B Neg or AB Neg. The Pos and Neg part of the blood type indicates Rh factor. Rh antibodies are not naturally occuring as the ABO antibodies are. They must be stimulated by transfusion or by pregnancy. However, it is best not to stimulate them in an Rh Neg blood group. Otherwise, in an emergency situation only O Neg would be acceptable |

Geez, my head hurts! If I could give, they could give it to whoever they decided should be getting it. However, I had hepatitis in my teens, and now nobody wants it.  That's okay, I drive the household donor to his appointments, so I do my part!  |
