Wasn't sure where to put this but seeing that my secretor status will determine a lot of my " FOOD" thought this would work.

I have followed the ERFYBT diet on and off for 3 years. It has not been an easy road and I struggle everyday to make better choices than perhaps I would have. I choose Turkey over Chicken 100% of the time, have my one cup of coffee ( that used to be 5 or 6 cups) drink as much green tea as I can and take deflect.
Being an AB I thought it was even more important to know my secretor status than some of the other blood types that don't have the high Cancer risk.
I've struggled with being overweight for at least the last 13 years ( I'm 37) and 70-80 pounds overweight although oddly enough I carry the weight well. My feet can't hack it anymore. I'm exited and nervous and have weighed the pro's and con's of non vs secretor and I really am confused. Part of me wants to be a non because it would answer many problems, but it also gives me a higher cancer risk than a secretor...God Knows and in a few weeks I will know too....I'll keep ya posted

girly, congrats on taking the step to fine tune your diet and health!! Yes, sometimes every day is a struggle. It's funny, there are certain things I just will not eat and others I make the exception for at times, but I always pay.  
Stop all that frettin' over whether you want to be a secretor or a nonnie     you are what you are          and you'll soon find out.

Congrats girly on getting your secretor test done after three years.  I did the same thing.  It will bring you to do the fine tuning you need to.

Great decision on ordering the secretor test, girly.  This will help to refine your meals to optmize your health goals.  The nuances in the changes with secretor and non-secretor foods and their respective portions/frequencies will assist you plan your food intake on a daily basis.

My test came today from ABO essentials...I read the instructions, collected the 5 mls and had it picked up by the courier all in 1 hour.. Wow they make it easy and I am so exited...Oddly enough when I came onto the recent posts my post was on the top...too weird. Now does anyone know if I will only get the results by mail or is there a web-site to check the status ( my literature says nothing...maybe it depends where they do the test) My test was sent to Dartmouth Nova Scotia.

My test came from NAP.  I called the toll free number and the lady said it may be ready by the end of the week.  I am in the hospital with my husband and my son read me the reference number for my test.  It has 14 digits.  That seems like a lot of numbers.  I may just have to wait until hubby gets home to recheck the number.  Now that I have decided to do it,  I can't wait to find out.

I love the Cancer book by Dr. D.  It has great information.

I have not heard from ABO essentials.  The NAP test gave me a choice if I wanted my results by mail or on line.

It is not NAP. It is the site to find out the result of a saliva secretor test kit that you purchase from NAP.

My understanding, from some of the other Canadian posters, is that it can take anywhere from 1 week to a month before there are enough tests to make that minimum batch of 10.  ABO Essentials has only 1 lab (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) for the small clientele.
The info contained in the package said that we would get results by mail. Not email but post office mail....
I sent mine in last week, so who knows, it may just be in the same batch as yours.

Yeppers Andrew.  They are put in the freezer until there are, at least, 10 of them.  And...you get the results by mail unless you specified otherwise on the form.  You could also have them sent to Mike at ABO Essentials.

Well, now I know!  I got my test results and I am a non-secretor!  My life is complete.  I have a label, and I know what I am and what I can and can't eat.  This is great.

I have the Dr. D book on Aging and also the one on Cancer.  I was reading the Aging one in the doctor's lab today and I was shocked that we Nonnies can have Avocado and even more protein.  There are some other things that switched, too.   It will be a mind shift for me but a very pleasant one.  I am so excited.

Also, my blood work, as in cholesterol, triglycerides etc. turned out excellent.  I can only give credit to the BTD.  I started on my "info mercial", which is what I call it when I start talking about the BTD.  I can't stop.!  Before the 3 hour test was over, the lab tech had made a copy of her section of the book.  I just really believe in this way of eating.

Okay, enough chatter.  Please, all of my nonnie sisters and brothers.....Please give my words of wisdom on the nonnie life.  I will miss my sweet potatoes and romaine lettuce not being beneficial anymore.   And apples too.  Yicks!

Does anyone know how to cook Mackeral?  I had it once and it tasted like cat food.
By the way, we survived Hurricane Humberto.  It came to my town!!

I've not had cat food, I have had mackeral though so I guess I would like it.  

Use any good salmon recipe. I would think mixing it up with some seawood would be wonderful, maybe some parsley/cilantro, celery or so forth as well.

The mackeral I had came from a can.  I suspect real fish would be better.  Seaweed I have not tried, but the other things I like.  Thanks.

p.s   I never ate cat food either, but I have often smelled it.

Because it's an oily fish (lots of omega 3) mackerel grills or barbeques well. I just squeeze over lots of lemon or lime juice, but you could use chopped herbs (e.g fennel fronds) or kelp granules or powder.

welcome meribelle! nonnies are in the minority. congratulations on overcoming your fear and taking the secretor test. i was on btd 3 years before taking the test, i told myself that it was expensive ,but in reality i was afraid of being a nonnie. how funny! i was a nonnie from birth, not knowing did not change that, just made me wonder why i had so many health issues and then after following btd, experienced problems eating many foods that are neutrals for secretors yet are avoids for nonnies. the plus side is having the tools to deal with the negatives. nonnies have to work twice as hard to get half as far. yes, you may quote me on that!

I love knowing the limitations.  It is like I learn in Child Development class many years ago in college...."Freedom within limits."  That is what we have.  There are a lot of available foods and we have to made a conscious decision to choose the ones that are good for us.

This morning I was at the store and a chocolate bar called to me.  I almost answered and then I remember that sugar is an avoid for nonnies.  That thought, plus the fact that I had just read Suzanne's blog, helped me to not answer the call.

Support is good for us.  I am glad to be apart of this non-group!

Also, the sweet potatoes and romain are neutral.....so you can still enjoy them.

The only fish I can stand cooked is Cod.  With so many other choices in fish,  I think I would just ignore Mackerel,  unless it is canned and on sale at the store.....then my kitties get a treat !!!

Hardest part I have found being a "Royal", is no apples and no soy milk.   As soon as I started eating as a nonnie the pounds melted away so easily, it was simply amazing!!!

Also, with a major history of cancers in the family, the one thing I keep in the back of my mind is that sugar feeds cancer.......

Thank you for the welcome and for the comfort about Humberto.  We are blessed to have electricity, but my son and his family, who includes an 8 month old baby, still do not have power.  Several of my co-workers have been without lights since the hurricane.

People always forget hurricanes after the next day, but not if you life here!  They are expensive, too.

As for the Royal way of eating, I feel better already.  I lost some weight on the candida diet last year, but the pounds have been creeping up.  Now there is hope that they will disappear.

I have some ground bison and I bought some parsnips and turnips this morning.  I intend to make stew/goulash for my breakfasts.

My husband has leukemia, so we bought a Magic Bullet and have been enjoying smoothies.  Has anyone ever made one with vegetables?

Sugar feeds cancer.  That is an awesome statement.  Almost sounds like a thread of its own!!!  I think I have heard it before.  I passed that bit of knowledge to on hubby with leukemia.

To let you know, I ordered my secretor test and I checked off the box that send I wanted to receive my results through the internet. I checked and three weeks later they still said they hadn't received my test. I finally had to call and got the info over the phone. If this happens to you you may want to call before you've gone three weeks.

Sent my test in on the 4th...21 days and no results. Seems like in Canada we are only able to get results by snail mail.....Mike I'm going to take you up on your offer to check for me when you can!

girly...just remember...they have to have 10 secretor samples before they do the testing.  Until then they are in the freezer at the lab.

On Sept 4th, eh? Ok, that brings the count for the month of September to 2, 1 for you & 1 for me (also sent Sept. 4th) Just need 8 more.....

Or maybe the birch bark canoes that the mail service uses for summer service were so old that they dissolved. So they had to bring the huskies out early. Unfortunately with global warming the rivers and lakes are not frozen yet, so the huskies will just have to dog paddle.
