Hello all,
Well - I have to admit that I have been off the blood type diet recently - aaaggh! I have pathetic self discipline. At least, I exercise a lot which for an O nonny helps. Anyway, sorry to gross people out, but I am SO embarressed that I have horrible breakouts that have happened all over my back. I wondered if it might be related to wheat and coffee/dairy and sugar. I have been eating everything and anything. I thought it might be related to changing my shampoo and conditioner but I went back to my old one and the acne remained. I cannot wear any of my dresses or summer tops because it is so bad. Could the food really do that to my back? I have a little on my face - one one side too - the side I sleep on which makes me think my hair caused it??
Any thoughts would be very helpful |

Hi all,
I posted this on another board here but as nonny, I thought I would turn to others who carry the nonny burden! I have not being doing the diet very well over the last few months - lots of wheat/coffee and dairy - i Know - DISASTER! I am wondering if this is why I have horrible break outs all over my back. I think it could be related to my shampoo change - but have tried 10 different shampoos and have this problem. Is it possible to have that from shampoo??
My face has also broken out on one side - the side I sleep on so again I wonder if my hair is the problem. I have highlighted hair and so cannot use all shampoos. Or could it be the wrong diet??? I would love to know what to do.
I cannot wear any of my summer clothes and am a bit embarressed in front of my new boyfriend ( who is very sweet about it!) |

Try rinsing your hair in a cup of apple cider vinegar, after shampooing, then rinse with water.
Also eliminate main avoids again, begin all over if you need to, everything white first and corn, than go on to eliminate kidney beans the next week, and keep on eliminating more until your eating hardly or no avoids.
At the same time your doing this, eat all beneficial foods for you, a few neutrals thrown in is fine too.
And drink at least half your weight in oz of water each day.
Your body will starting a gentle detoxing and you may get rid of your problems with acne. |

Suzedgar, I have found that when I am not following the diet (like now) then I develop acne around my chin, mouth, and nose. If I get back on right away, it will go away within days. Also, I will up my water intake to help flush the toxins from the system. Try eating bennies only for a few days and see if the acne clears up. Good luck! |

suzedgar,
I would definitely get on the O-nonnie diet immediately, and also get on some of Dr. D's larch and Deflect formulas. It would also be a very good idea to get on the anti-bacterial protocol, which is primarily:
1) astragalus, 2) rose hips, 3) zinc/copper.
I also usually do very well on a lecithin supplement.
Finally, I would stop using conditioner on my hair. It will run down your back and cause pimples. However, I'm a firm believer that, if you pay attention to where on your back you're having the pimples, it might be over the areas and organs that are experiencing the heaviest assault from inflammation and, perhaps, infection. |

Actually, I am pretty sure it has to do with your diet and not your shampoo. Two weeks ago when Dr. D. posted the recipe for NY bread...I made two loaves and they turned out wonderful. Not for this O though. I ate too much of it which I have not done in such a long time. Took me a week to recover and lots of break outs on my chin, neck and shoulders. I used to think it was the sugar in things, but there isn't any sugar in that bread. I used spelt, but as a nonnie it didn't sit well with my blood. Eat beneficials as much as possible-stay away from the avoids, drink lots of water and green tea (milk thistle/dandelion/stinging nettle)...get the exercise in..got any deflect? Keep us posted. Interesting info - thank you everyone.
I think the wheat and coffee/dairy might be the biggest culprits. AAAAgh cannot give up the cofee - I know I must. I am very weak willed.
The pimples are all over one side of my face and they came on when I was under a lot of stress at my job and they never went away and then the back issue came on a few months ago after changing my shampoo and conditioners. The pimples are all over the top and middle of my back - not on the sides or lower down - sort of as far down as my hair goes. I have tried about 10 different types of shampoos and conditioners.
I have very long hair and think that I need to use conditioner - otherwise wouldn't my hair be really coarse??? Do any of you girls not use conditioner?

Try keeping your hair up off of your back neck and face for a bit and see what happens. I don't use conditioner, but then again I have very short hair. Debra |

on MSM Dr D

In some testing in the office, MSM seems to make about 50% of the people sick. It might be of some benefit to certain type O's, but using the high protein diet is cheaper and more savory.

I am not prone to acne....EXCEPT when my diet crumbles (whether it be avoids, or just too much sugary sweets.) So, yes, get back on the wagon. But, when I do get an acne breakout, I do find that tea tree oil (topically) helps to minimize the breakout, as well as shorten the time that it takes to go away with it. I use the Derma E brand, which is 75% Tea Tree oil (Melaluca) and 25% Vitamin E. If you are concerned about applying oil to your skin, apply it, and then wash it off in about 2-3 hours. Good luck! |

The main reason I tried the BTD was to find a cure for my acne. I thought I was SO very healthy being a vegetarian. I couldn't figure out why my skin looked so bad and I felt so tired. I knew I had enough protein in my diet. For the longest time I thought it was anything with much fat in it, like olive oil or butter...so I avoided those things, but it never really went away. A friend mentioned looking into the BTD. I didn't even know what I was. Of course, I was an O who was supposed to eat meat! I was SO desperate to find a fix for my facial acne! I had tried EVERY product out there.. every cosmetic line... so, I did.. and I have struggled with giving up coffe, too.. but as soon as I cut out all wheat and corn products .. and started eating small portions of meat, lots of veggies, lots of fruits.. some nuts.. lots of olive oil... MY SKIN BECAME PRISTINE!!!!! no more acne! it is
G O N E!!!! I am so happy.. I've been on the BTD for close to 4 years now and I have just recently stopped the coffee.. I feel SO much better.. didn't think I could ever do it.. I know drink green tea... but anyway, I am certain that wheat and corn are big culprets in acne.. and diet is THE thing that will affect your skin.. the BIG thing! so don't let anyone tell you otherwise! and I work out a lot.. sweat a lot.. and that has very little to do with it.. I can even wear regular sunscreen on my face now... YiPPpPppPyY... I wish you luck and hope you have as much success as I have had.. I am SO thankful! |

Sheri,
That is SO encouraging to hear. I do think the wheat and corn are huge culprits. I am also trying to give up the coffee because I am convinced that the cream I have is also a problem. Have you given up dairy too?
I do remember doing the diet really well a while ago and my skin looking amazing. I am so fed up now that I think I have to go back and do it. I am 37 years old and sick of looking like this.
Thank you so much for the encouragement. I am interested to hear that your skin was clear on the coffee though. Do you have more energy now after giving it up? |

Hi suzedgar,
Yes, absolutely I gave up dairy. As a vegetarian some of my favorite things were smoothies made with yogert and milk.. and also just yogert with some granola... and keifer with some Special K cereal.... oh did my face look awful!!!! and this was all about the time I was your age, too.. I was about 40ish ... my weight was great.. I loved my vegetarian food.. but my skin looked awful.. I tried all of these expensive lines.. Erno Laszlo, Pro Active, Chanel, Prescriptives... you name it... the LOVE of my life was my coffee in the mornings.. I'd have Cafe DuMond with heavy whipping cream ( or just plain milk) and real sugar. I didn't have any other coffee any other time of the day, just mornings.. So once I started the BTD, my face got sooo much better. No dairy except for a tablespoon of that cream in my coffee... so several months ago I went cold turkey and started drinking just green tea in the morning... I often put some Westsoy Soy Milk ( unsweetened) and some sugar in it, but I have done several weeks with nothing in the green tea... my skin is amazing.. no more pimples or white heads or black heads of any sort.. nada.. and I just use pretty plain stuff on my face.. not a bunch of junk.. any ol' soap sometimes.. I still have a lot of my nce stuff left so I use that most of the time.. but I don't use a lot of extra creams and treatments.. I don't have to! Also, you should be drinking about 1.5 liters of water a day.. water is important... another book you might find quite interesting is Dr. Perricone's Acne book.... it seems that the type O diet and Dr. Perricone's diet for one size fits all are pretty similar.. so I can't say if it's just the blood type diet that has cleared my face or the low glycemic load that I now eat.... but hey.!! it's working ! |

Sheri,
You give me so much hope!!! Do you eat any fruit at all? I am a non secretor and it definitely sounds like i need to eat a lot less sugar - i eat bagles, cookies etc. I am not overweight - weigh 108 pounds and I absolutely LOVE my food!! It is hard to cut out the carbs - as a non secretor, I am best on no carbs.
Your post has given me enough inspiration to actually do the diet. I am so sick of buying expensive foundation and creams and trying acne medication. The big problem I have is my back 0 so weird. I cannot wear any summer clothes and it is ridiculous. I really hope this clears up as I don't want to take antibiotics - the dermatologist wants me to. Uugh. They love handing out pills |

oh, gosh, I just HOPE this will work for you as well as it did for me! and thanks, lola, for the pat on the back.. I DO eat fruit... I eat plums, grapes, apples and dried figs..dried cherries... the dried cherries you find at most health food stores have sugar added to them, so I go light on those.. ONLY when I eat a TON of fruit does my face show any signs of acting up.. but it's miniscule! and yes, I used to eat a TON of bagles and wheat produts.. plus coffee and dairy..and once I cut all of that OUT my acne went away.. and I spent hundreds of dollars on products, too.. ask me and I've tried it... I was so desperate that I just had to try this diet.. I don't know if you eat meat, but meat is SO good for O's... I don't have meat twice a day every day, but most days at least once.. eat lots of salad with olive oil only... please let me know either here or a PM how this is working for you.. I was just amazed at how my skin became as clear as a baby's skin on this diet... after YEARS of dermatologist, the PILL... creams... antibiotics... you name it.. I did it... I tried it all..and the BTD is THE only thing that has kept my face clear.. as I said, I think a lot of it has to do with the low glyecmic index that O's eat... but experiment for yourself and see.. just NO wheat dairy or corn.... and easy on the sugar.. always.. |
