you don't have to quit grains...just stick to a few slices a day or a serving a day as recommended in the book...too many O's think they have to give them up completely....I would imagine if you were gluten intolerant or a nonnie yes but not all O's are...I love my spelt, rye and kamut food stuffs and they don't wear me down...because I eat them in moderation
exercise make me feel energetic as it does most O's and making sure you eat enough protein in the morning will also keep your energy levels up till lunch
coffee makes me feel tired and ornery within 45 minutes
That is what I am hoping for. I am hoping it is the coffee detox that is draining me as I exercise, eat proteing, healthy meals and drink green tea. Perhaps I am having just a slice of bread extra... main reason why most O's don't want to see grains. So dificult to have them in moderation
I want to be like you Have my grains in moderation and no coffee

Not all A's can have grains, many nonnie A's find they do best with out them as well. I had been eating some occasional rice, alright more than occasional rice and had been gaining instead of finding my equilibrium weight or losing. I remembered that when I had cut out all grains and did more excercise I seemed to have no problem controlling my weight. And low and behold I have just started not having grains for 2 or 3 days and excercising a little more and I am now losing weight. I do love my coffee though.
Well it seems as the "drained" feeling I've been having is coffee detox.
Last night I had 2 Deflect before bed. I slept like a baby and woke up wonderful. Had 2 spelt toast at breakfast and I did not need any coffee all day. Felt so good!
So now, on to make sure I have grains in moderation and not to get even close to coffee.
I still want to make sure I do not get "drained" when I have some bread with a big meal (meat & grain combo). But I will make the experiment later on, if I am strong enough to wait . When I feel "drained" I am too tempted for coffee so i do not want to risk it.
In any case, I am still quite interested in knowing of other members that consume grains without coffee.
I eat grains in moderation and I very seldomly have coffee and I usually don't crave it either. Then again I gave up coffee several years before even starting on the BTD so it's not a big deal for me not to have coffee anymore on a regular basis. I more just have it as a treat maybe once every couple of months or so - and then I usually remember why I don't drink it anymore because of how my stomach usually protests.

YipppYYYY.. for the first time EVER I am not stressing over no coffee! I gave it up a week and a half ago.... AGAIN! I've tried several times with no success, but this time I am drinking green tea WITH soy milk and some sugar.. I know.. the sugar isn't so good, but I am feeling SOOOOo much better without the coffee I can't believe it.. so much clearer! and the arthritis in my knees is MUCH better... I know cutting out the sugar will help.. maybe in time... but this time I am having some Manna bread with ghee with my tea.. and I don't know why, but the combination is working.. when I say working, I mean that I don't feel deprived and I don't have headaches from no caffine and no coffee.. and I don't feel mean.. giggles.. I have felt mean the last few times... so maybe I will stick with it! still want to try peppermint twists' roasted green tea.. must order some...! believe me, if I can get off coffee.. anyone can!!!! it was my one and only joy..
I do fine with both coffee and grains for breakfast, but I am not a regular coffee drinker by any means. If I do have coffee, I will purchase a cup of organic, plain, regular coffee at a co-op or hfs.
I do have a cup of organic green tea every morning at least two hours after breakfast.
Exercising appropriately for your blood type will increase energy levels if done in the morning; it sets the day perfectly.

Thank you for sharing your experiences of grains without coffee
So it is possible to have grains (in moderation) and lead a productive life without the coffee
Just had my toast with green tea and I feel fine. Reading these posts is good news. I only need to get rid of the coffee
Sheri, well done. Keep as you are. May I recommend from experience...? Do not worry about the sugar. Give yourself a month more before you think of changing your green tea with soya milk and sugar for breakfast. Let it be. let your body adjust. I have had green tea on its own for breakfast for a year now. The coffe i drank it half hour after, right before working.
When I started drinking green tea I had it like you but because of the sugar issue, I tried changing too early and reverted to coffee. Last May I got the green tea from NAP, Dr. Itarus? and that got me into drinking gree tea on its own. Now I drink regular organic gree tea.
My O-Nonnie and (probable) Secretor household gave up coffee gradually. First I started making the coffee 1/2 caffeine and 1/2 decaf beans, having less cups per day, and began experimenting with green and herb teas. By time we gave away the coffee beans we had no caffeine withdrawal. Lo and behold, my sinuses and energy levels improved. Now I only have the occasional coffee, and my sinuses and stomach complain. I only wish I had decided "no coffee" before I got hooked on it in recent years! Oh, yeah, and we definitely feel better without grains in the house, just rice. And not on a daily basis, either. I never thought I would've given up even Ezekial bread, but we noticed things were better if we didn't have it.

wooow, somebody who want's to be similar like meee...weew...how nice to share ....Madl, perhaps you must suffer a bit first, to get off café, that was my case, so I did it really voluntarely ....and then I saw after how addicted I was to it......
but I am a trickster as well ;) ....I used for a longer time Enada NADH, this is a bloody fine stuff to get boosted your energylevel.....so easier to quit (all what you can imagine ;) ) and you are fit the whole day loooooong!!!! I took about 2x7,5 mg's daily onto empty stomach and never got tired.....what a great feeling...... and you won't exhauste your adrenal glands either ;) .....tarrrööööö ..........
Osuzanna, glad to know you also quit coffee and your energy levels are good at least when no grains are consumed. Fortunately Dr. also tooke care of recommending low grain consumption for you
Tomatilla, I wish i were like you since October Are you still taking Enada NADH? I am afraid of trying. I am an O. If it gives me too much pleasure then i'll have trouble quitting
Honestly I do not mind trying Enada NADH if it is only temporary but will I have to consume it when I have grains? So far I am motivated to stay compliant and quit coffee but i do not want to quit grains
Today I managed to stay off coffee but I did have my ups and downs in energy but do not seem to be related to grain consumption. At least I am hoping so
Susana, I read recently that taking 1-2 grams of Vit C, once or twice a day, helps with the caffeine withdrawal. I'm doing that now, myself.
Thanks Drea. Actually I've been taking 1grm and perhaps that has contributed positively (abstaining for sooooo long). I do not get headaches any more as I weaned myself off it slowly and perhaps the vit C but, I terribly miss the coffee high and energy.
I actually hope my energy levels improve and that I do not need to avoid grains.
It all makes sence. I tend to drink to much tea (caffeine) bc my Adrenal glands are fatigued. I read to take 1 gram Vit C around 2 pm to help the Adrenal Glands. I'm going to take Vit C in the morning as well and see if it helps.
Coffee and Tea are on my bennie list but my body doesn't do well with them for now. Caffeine on an empty stomach makes me physically ill.
Funny thread. Nice. Actually I drank 4-5-6 cups of black tea every day including the mornings before learning about the BTD, so I had to get used to drinking coffee! But it ok now...
Purlgirl. Being as sure as I can be, tea inhibits vit. C absorption, so one should seperate tea and vit. C to have the best effect. And please excercise, especially if you are having the problems you describe. Excercise also better your absorption of the good stuffs you eat on a general scale. So perhaps you dont need to take more, but absorp what you allready eats better. Taking a long walk or a trip on you bicycle in the woods (like I did yesterday).
Gee I feel like a dietician now, clever and all. Feels good
When I feel "drained" I am too tempted for coffee so i do not want to risk it.
This is how I was for a long time ............. from my adrenals being so poorly, it was really, really hard to get going in the morning. Coffee helped, altho I knew it was not good for my adrenals. Catch-22. I didnt have it every day, but any is too much. Somehow I have graduated to no coffee, except for the very occasional time, and all tea. I think the thing that helped me SO much was having licorice tea. I got some Estraphase in hopes of eliminating the extra estrogen from drinking the licorice tea. It does also raise blood pressure, so that is working really well for me right now,,,,,,,,as the side effects from my heart meds ( ) lower B/P. So far so good and I LOVE licorice tea.

IMHO, this is a great suggestion. One transition at a time. Giving up the coffee and dairy are more important than the soy and sugar. Tho, have you tried using agave nectar in place of sugar. I dare say, I think you might like it. It's purty good.

I would like to suggest taking some of your Vit C at bedtime, as this is when your body does it's repair work, and Vit C is very important for adrenal repair. Also some B5 (Pantothenic Acid) at bedtime would help as well. I take one w/ each meal and one at bedtime (when I rememeber that is - MUST get better about this)

Ditto, congratulations and thaks for the advice.
Licorice tea may be a very good call. I can have it because I have a low BP and I am quite sure one of the reasons for my carb cravings is my low estrogen levels so perhaps it even helps me in that area although I am currently doing quite well in controlling my carb cravings
I shall get on the licorice tea case on Monday. Thanks.

I'm lucky, Susana. I get to have grains and coffee. I've always been a bread person even as child. I've suffered from migraines since childhood. I find that if I don't get a good amount of carbs, I have a migraine that lasts for days. That is no picnic. That means increased blood pressure, nausea, loss of appetite... I remember trying that Atkins diet and was physically ill for almost 10 days. What can I say? I love grains. My body loves grains. I am a typical A secretor.
Lucky you! Interesting how different we can be. For sure I feel best, physically and mentally without grains, sugar, dairy, or coffee but during breakfast I feel so much worse. I love my toast and caffe latte with sugar.
