Today, fittingly, I came across this documentary...(first part of 5- you'll find the rest when you go there) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toRIkRa1fYU It is about epigenetics. Remember the 'Hongerwinter' findings? The stage of pregnancy in women determined the life of their grandchildren? Well, looks like the stresses of 9/11 on women pregnant in the third trimester affected (of course) their babies and the scientific community is keeping tabs on these children which are now a couple of years before puberty. Apparently the switching on/ off of genes in males happens when they reach puberty (start of sperm production), so there should be real, up to date findings on that subject soon. I hope that Dr. D will be able to access these findings and share them with us- doubt we would be able to hear about them otherwise So, in the aftermath of destruction there might just be a silver lining that might change the perception of the general public about genetics and their own impact on them right now. My prayers are with you today- take care of you and your loved ones, always! |

Today in reflection of 9/11, I came across a full page ad from Macy's in our local newspaper. I'd like to share it with you all. "Hug your children.....spend the day with family.....think of an old friend.....wave to your neighbor.....go for a long walk......light a candle.....share your thoughts.....take a moment for yourself.....be there for someone else......watch the sunset......look forward to sunrise....
Today, in your own way, remember and reflect....September 11, 2001"Peace to all mankind |

Is this information available in a transcript? I don't absorb information well when I only hear it, rather than reading it, and anyway I can't really focus on listening to videos with my son (born in November 2001) in the room. |

I have long been to the mind set that the expression of "woman in delicate circumstances" is the right way to describe and expect behavior expectations.. It's not about how they behave but rather how society should behave when seeing a mom to be.. TREAT her with respect, let her have a seat, costs nothing. NOT doing job evaluations during pregnancies is one I did when I knew a woman was pregnant. Allowing RESPECT for the child not yet borne is more important then most other things.. It is not just life in that embryo that is to be respected, but more importantly the feeding of all children, the providing education to moms and the child and to keep dads in a position where he will be able to RESPECT his position in life and transfer that to his child..
There are societies where the men take over the education of 7 year old boys, tearing them away from the bond of moms.. we need to fight that as much as protecting a fetus. Adoption is a gift to all why do not more people about? Why adopt only white babies and abandoning the others to State facilities? Foster care is on issue way beyond proper parenting - it is painful, hurtful and money is all to often the motivation behind it.
9/11 is not about warfare but about reminding us what got us there. Its not about power placed on others. but about gentleness in education. Starting with MOMs to be is just one most important place to start.. warfare costs money, much more then peace.. joining the peace corp should be mandatory.. yet mandatory action is not PEACE any more.. May the world learn from 9/11. PEACE to you all. |

"Pregnant women in the last third of their pregnancy at the time of the attacks on the Twin Towers and who suffered with PTSD not only had low levels of cortisol but also their children were born with lower than normal levels of cortisol in their saliva as well."
OK, this is a big relief to me. I was in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy on 9/11/2001, but I did not experience PTSD. I was worried about my uncle for about an hour until I got the call that he'd been in Penn Station, and not in his Twin Tower office, at the time of the attack. I did not experience anything close to PTSD, and my son was born healthy. I don't think I need to worry about him being damaged by the 9/11 stuff.
I kind of panicked when I read your post without the clarification of the article itself. |

Certainly the children of 9/11 are a verrrry intense group. I think the tweens will be a lot like the teens. |
