((Newbie alert here; please be patient with me!))
As a Type O, I'm supposed to avoid oatmeal, yet I see a recipe suitable for Type Os for homemade granola using rolled oats.
I'm doing more research, and I seem to be finding more discrepancies. For instance, why would pineapple juice be beneficial, yet pineapple, itself, be neutral?
(I don't know if I'm a Secreter or Non-Secreter.) |

Sometimes a juice has a higher concentration of whatever nutrient makes it favorable for a blood type - thus the higher concentration gives it a "higher" rating. |

We keep some recipes as suitable for more types than the listed ingredients allow because we assume people are willing to substitute compliant ingredients for non-compliant ones... This provides many more ideas for all types... We all need to read the ingredient list at all times! |

I just thought it was odd because the recipe was in the chapter dedicated to Blood Type O in the Eat 4 Your Type book. The start of the chapter said that there might be tiny amounts of Avoid ingredients in the recipes, but that the major components of the recipes are suitable for Type O. Rolled oats is the major component to the granola recipe. That chapter didn't have any recipes for other types. |

Hi Hepzibuh, Welcome. In my Eat Right 4 Your Type, it says that oatmeal is NEUTRAL for O's. But as you come to know your secretor status, you'll find that that is only for secretors, and it's an avoid for non-secretors. |

My apologies. The book does list it as neutral. I had printed out a table from http://www.westmauiwellness.com/docs/bloodtype/Type_O.pdf (which sited its source as your book), which listed oatmeal as an Avoid food. Obviously, someone in West Maui messed up. I'll make sure to go straight to the source from now on. And, thank goodness oatmeal is Neutral! |

well, as I posted in another thread, in my translation of the book ( I got it in Finnish), oats and barley were mixed up in the O list - oat was avoid and barley neutral, when it's the other way around!! Luckily I hadn't opened the barley products I bought, have to take them back.. |

oh and welcome Hepzibuh
Thank you! I'm on Day 4 and have been very good about this (so far). Gnawing on Mission figs instead of enjoying a cup of cherry vanilla yogurt is a huge change for me. It's an eye opener when you think you've been eating healthy, exercising regularly, and being frustrated that you've been gaining five pounds a year the past ten years and then realizing that maybe it's because what is considered healthy for others is definitely not healthy for you. |
