FYI IAP varies up to four-fold by virtue of ABO and secretor genetics.

Here is a link to the full article pdf

Amazing that people still contest these ABO/secretor links to digestion!

"In summary, our data show that the endogenous brush border enzyme IAP appears to provide a favourable environment for E coli and perhaps other enteric microbes. Furthermore, exogenous administration of oral IAP promotes restoration of the normal gut microbiota following antibiotic exposure and also appears to inhibit the colonisation and infection of the gut pathogen Salmonella. Based on these data, we suggest that orally adminis- tered IAP might be an effective treatment for bacterial patho- genesis as well as a variety of disease conditions associated with dysregulated intestinal microbiota."

Patients in the hospital get assaulted with antibioitcs when they have any GI bacterial overgrowth, making things worse.  I believe we kill them slowly by destroying the gut flora. Sometimes I find it very difficult administer care  for my patients  knowing  this information.

Could you add the PD to the title?
