I have become involved in a discussion on Ralph Moss' cancer blog. Not unexpectedly, a poster is claiming there is no research supporting Dr. D'Adamo's work.  I looked for what used to be known as the knowledge base on this site but couldn't find it.

Has someone written an effective concise response to this issue of no research that I could reference?

Dr. D's Wiki, The Individualist

The "science" it's based on are research articles that have included blood type (and a host of other sub-types that have been noted) as a factor.

Go to MEDLINE, type in ABO, BLOOD TYPE, & DISEASE.  I think there are over 2400 articles now with that search.

Two of the basics of the diet are lectin theory (discovered back in 1945 by William Boyd that lectins are blood type specific) and the fact that scientists have known for over 40 years that the different blood types produce very different levels of IAP (intestinal alkaline phosphotase) an enzyme critical in the breakdown of cholesterol and the absorption of calcium.

These are scientific facts that the diet is based on.

Cancer.

Certain blood types are more susceptible.  For instance, Blood Type A and breast cancer, and the fact that they have the worst outcomes.  The scientific literature supports this.

So, the argument isn't that there has never been a "double blind" study of the diets... (I mean, with so much individuality between people, how could one get a set of people on the exact same diet)...the argument is, the science of the differences of how each human body operates is indicative that they need to be nourished differently.

Thanks.  This link is what I was looking for.
The discussion has to do with the benefits of a vegan diet for all to prevent cancer.

Ask them to present studies that eating vegetarian (and it needs to be specific as to how they define vegetarianism) has "cured" people of cancer.... How was that "double blind" study done?  I doubt there was one.

There are many vegans who died relatively young...some from cancer I believe.  Look in the critics section  to see if anything is mentioned, or do some searches of the site.

Oh. Almost forgot.

Here's an example Dr. D talks about at this link: Dr. D'Adamo, Career Spotlight

To make a generalized statement that a vegan diet will cure cancer for everyone is to deny how unique each person is, polymporphism, and that a treatment protocol has to be designed for that individuals unique chemistry.

Quoted Text
AANMC: Will you share a story about how your practice of naturopathic medicine has helped one of your patients?

PD: I could tell you thousands. A patient who also helped me with my Web site suffered from a disease called Pemphigus. It’s an autoimmune disease of the mucus membranes in your skin. It causes blisters, it’s messy, and then you die. He was the head of a vegetarian society and a three-time national vegetarian trivia contest winner. He was getting sicker and sicker, and all his vegetarian friends were telling him he wasn’t being a good enough vegetarian. At one point he read my book, and he said “I don’t like the idea, but I just refuse to die for the cause.” He changed his diet to include meat and put his Pemphigus into remission. Years later, he told me that his gluteal muscles, which had been destroyed by all the steroids he had taken, had come back too. You guessed it - he was type O! That’s the power of being flexible in your food choices!

And sometimes, even when you fail you succeed. One of my dearest patients passed away from breast cancer after 11 years. During her illness, her oncologist would roll his eyes when she would come to me for treatments. But then at the end, he said, “If it wasn’t for the other guy, this would have happened years ago.”

I tell students it’s simple. You’ve got a person on one side of the river, and you’ve got to get him to the other side. If he gets there, you win. You try one thing, and if that doesn’t work, you try something else. A type A with cancer is going to be difficult. In a type A person, cancer tends to be a bit more aggressive and more inclined to metastasize. When dealing with type A breast cancer patients who want alternative treatment, I’ve taken a lot of different approaches. I’ve said, “You’ve got to go back and get some conventional treatment first.” I’ve sent patients back to their oncologists and said, “I think you should do a more aggressive chemotherapy protocol.” And to some patients, who’ve wanted to avoid chemotherapy, I’ve said “OK, I can go along with that.” It’s paradoxical, but the key is to have a full 360 degree mindset in approaching each individual patient.

Riddle me this. If type A is most prone to cancer and type A's (in general) benefit most from getting the (most) meat (and most dairy) out the diet, doesn't it make sense that the vegan approach will work for many (at least short term)? You also have to remember that so much of the meat is not meat as it naturally should be-- fed only good, clean grass.

I don't know that the opposite is the case for O's in that a vegan diet would lead one toward cancer, but not having their meat seems to cause issue for many in the long term.

Beware of anyone claiming ALL animal products are unhealthy. (honey comes to mind) They most likely have an agenda more having to do with animal rights. This gets all confused into the model of health they are working toward IMHO.

As for me, at this point, you won't get the ghee from my cold, dead hands unless there is significant research as to tell me why it isn't good for me or it is contraindicated for something I am working on.

It's been that good for me.

It's important to remember the individual angle.

Well, whipped out the Cancer book by Dr. D. -- p.51-- the inability to digest the meat (or any food) causes the toxins to build up.

Check out that book, there is more to it than I am going to post here...
p.52-- "The bottom line, a high protein diet can also be a cancer fighting diet for blood type O."

All that is great information AKArtlover, but I think she was looking for science articles, studies, for her arguments with the vegan proponents.  It's great information for US, who already believe in Dr. D's work.

Yes, mam.
Just rambling.
Also, I would ask them to produce the studies that are the basis for their argument comparing vegan to clean non vegan.

The China Study had some issues that I believe were pointed out on here before. Maybe search those words.

Has Dr. Weil sent any complimentary copies to anyone?
When someone asks for proof from you they need to present proof for their stand as well.

Thanks Dr. D for this and the other link.  When I went back to post them, I discovered I was now on moderated status.  I hope they allow them.  I'm not arguing with anyone, just providing information in response to a comment that there is no research on the BTD.

Some sites are so entrenched in their beliefs that they don't want "conflicting" information posted on their board or some of the members will "flag" other members who disagree with them...  There are many ways to silence the messenger that will help the most.

The textbook is very complex, and requires a certain degree of complexity theory with core naturopathic principles, genomic values and generative processes......
all these so called superstars lack all this and more.......

In my next life, I ll want to be a student of Dr D s at Bridgeport!!!!
but until then, I ll stick right here where I belong and spread the word as best I can.

When you accept the important premis, that people are individual right down to the nature of the chemical reactions in their cells, the idea of controlled, double blind studies becomes ridiculous.  If vegetarianism were as universally good as claimed, we would not need to keep discussing the issue.

Good news - they let me post both the links Dr. D gave me.  I hope Ralph Moss might become interested in the BTD too.  He writes a cancer blog   http://cancerdecisions.com/index.php
