This was by total chance that I discovered how much it might be bothering me. I just starting reading up on all the issues that can come with it.

I had sinus pain, even when I could breath through both, for nearly two weeks. It came and went a little bit. To my mind it seemed like it might just be allergies etc...

Well I thought maybe a little bit of relief might be good, so I took a Benadryl (my mother gave me a bunch awhile back). Now usually I avoid taking them, and try to consume lots of healthy stuff including Kefir, ginger, etc.

When I did take it I nearly immediately had relief from head pain. My nervous system perked up, I slept a regular amount of time and didn't feel hungover for no apparent reason, and my digestion is flowing way better. I've been taking them since, and my head is so much better I think I can read and normal stuff like that.

Is it really possible Histamine build up has been utterly blocking all my health from improving by eating right for my GenoType (SWAMI Pro done at clinic)?

For right now I'm going to just keep taking Benadryl. It's crazy how much more I feel normal, human.

Interesting thoughts, DoS.

I've been saying all along that pre BTD I'd been suffering from systemic inflammation, but I wonder if my discomfort etc. was actually due to a full body histamine congestion overload. (Too bad I couldn't make an acronym like FUBAR work).

Maybe you're on to something. If I'm the least bit congested (sinuses) I feel really, really lousy. Much more than just a sinus headache. Even my brain seems to get "clunky". I have to wonder if the sinuses are just the tip of the histamine iceberg, that they function as the pressure releif valve for the entire body. Living in a world of constant provocation, it's not hard to imagine becoming chronically overwhelmed.

Interesting post. It's bit damp and moldy the past few days and I feel quite the flare up and it started in the sinuses and has worked it's way through my digestive tract. In trying to figure it out, I knew that it was not brought on by food as I am quite vigilant with the odd black dot now and again, but not lately. There is so much inflammation in my body and I have some benadryl and going to down some!

Apparently the Collinsonia supplement from Dr. D'Adamo that is for the sinuses helps to regulate hemorrhoids, so there you are, one end to the other! Also a naturopath that I saw years ago gave it to me for gallbladder help.

You are on to something; glad you feel better. It gets quite wearing and worrisome to not feel well for a long stretch of time.

Histamine excess can contribute to anxiety and just not feeling right, and also to digestive problems.  I have a grudge against big pharma too, but within it even is both good and bad.  Some people care about health of people and others want to profit and don't care about health.  

I used to use antihistamines to tame anxiety and help wean off proton pump inhibiting acid reflux medicine.  The body uses histamine to deal with what it sees as toxins.

I don't know for sure, yet. Hugh blood sugar and stuff? I don't think my body wanted to heal while full of it. Also I probably don't make DAO when I feel bad, since when I start feeling better, even after the first Benadryl, I can hear juices in digestive system start working again.

In a health book I read that histamine can be cleared with vitamin C.  Not sure how much you need to take though.  It said people who suffer with Hayfever usually have a histamine problem also.

I didn't realize that high histamine can contribute to pain in the body. Another reason to be taking quercetin.

I read a lot of foods can up or down histamine levels.  Prob plays into blood type and genotype recommends and avoids.

I know that high histamine can up anxiety and adrenal release (maybe to clear the histamine?)

But basically no foods can lower histamine in the intestines. That's an issue.

Good food helps allergies for sure, but the intestines is another deal.

Once formed, histamine is either stored or broken down by an enzyme. Histamine in the central nervous system is broken down primarily by histamine N-methyltransferase (HMT), while histamine in the digestive tract is broken down primarily by diamine oxidase (DAO). Though both enzymes play an important role in histamine break down, the American Society for Clinical Nutrition found that DAO is the main enzyme responsible for breaking down ingested histamine. So if you’re deficient in DAO, you likely have symptoms of histamine intolerance.


Below this paragraph, the article speaks about DAO  and explains that there is an enzyme supplement that breaks down DAO in the gut.

Benedryl is also used for a sleep aid.  I keep it as an emergency allergy remedy (imho it should be in everyone’s emergency kits).

However, I don’t like taking meds.  Do yourself a favor and invest in a Neti Pot.  Use it 2x per day with distilled or boiled water (cooled of course).  You’ll get a lot of sinus relief in a more natural way.

I'm taking some Vitamin C. It appears to be a good thing. Lots of it. The first night it was sorta intense and kept me awake. This time I'm taking some made from the better sources, and I think it makes a difference. Nostrils still alternate a fair bit. BM's are much more frequent (took some probiotic, Jarrow some thing, whatever is on my grandmothers counter since I'm staying with her a few days).

the irony here is that Benadryl is not the answer to lower histamine because it blocks DAO.........because (if you go back and read my link again)
it says (and remember that it's DAO that helps to break down histamine)

So now....here are causes of Low DAO

Gluten intolerance
Leaky gut
SIBO

DAO-blocking foods: alcohol, energy drinks, and tea
Genetic mutations (common in people of Asian-descent)
Inflammation from Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, and inflammatory bowel disease.

But please notice what's on this list of medications that also blocks histamine from being broken down  properly.

Bottom line is that taking Benadryl will DEPLETE DAO IN YOUR BODY.

Medications:
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen, aspirin)
Antidepressants (Cymbalta, Effexor, Prozac, Zoloft)
Immune modulators (Humira, Enbrel, Plaquenil)
Antiarrhythmics (propanolol, metaprolol, Cardizem, Norvasc)
Antihistamines (Allegra, Zyrtec, Benadryl)
Histamine (H2) blockers (Tagamet, Pepcid, Zantac)

Although histamine blockers, a class of acid-reducing drugs, seem like they would help prevent histamine intolerance, these medications can actually deplete DAO levels in your body.

This is the catch 22.  You have to find a natural way to do this.  Medications always seem to have
a dark side. And if low DAO is your problem and  if you're trying to raise DAO, just remember that
Benadryl will lower this enzyme.

Last night I took a Benadryl. I got a nights rest, instead of tossing and turning. It's not that I want to be taking, but rather that sleeping is good.

I used a coupon, and there was a sale so some DAOsin was like $15, 22 shipped not slow.

We'll see... Someone gave me a juicer so I've been throwing celery in, and it makes me feel good, but I still feel like something's off in my gut, big time.

Hi catlawyer,

I read your post suspecting high polyamine toxicity. I had that last May and June. I treated myself by using Dr D's Detoxical-D and increasing ARA-6 and Polyflora. There is a test that naturopaths use, but I don't have access to naturoopathic medicine right now, other than Dr D's books. Look in Dr D's Encyclopedia under Toxicity, bowel for more info.

It took me a couple of months and I had to stop eating foods that contribute to it. Are you by any chance eating a high about of foods from your freezer? Also, foods high in methionine will do it too. See more info in the Encyclopedia. I stopped eating frozen foods altogether after my bout with toxicity.

I'm just responding to your post. I have not read any other posts on this thread.

Thank you Atypical - I will check that out. I did look into the blood tests my ND had done last week and my albumin was a bit high normal. I've just never had such persistent headaches before. I had a really bad migraine 2 weeks ago and it seems I've had a less severe headache ever since.

You could try taking betaine HCL with protein rich meals...if you take too much, you'd feel a burning
sensation in your stomach....too little or a true deficiency and some people have what feels like
gastric reflux and, poor nutrient absorption from their food..  But if you've been eating gluten grains and are intolerant...might have developed erosion in your gut. then with malabsorption, you're not going to be digesting anything very well.

I've had a good read through all the posts on here and the link you gave for more info; thanks.
Living in the UK I was on antihistamines for years, mainly dust mite I suspect. Then we moved to Spain for 14 yrs and it was only the olive blossom that bothered me for one month a year! Never had that kind of allergy in the UK though. Now we're back home again...I'm really not coping well because of living with carpets again and the dust mite. Taking one tab morning and night and sometimes a nasal spray. They term it as allergic rhinitis.
Can't say I've ever pinned it to any foods that make me feel worse though.

Since nothing has been budging this headache I'm trying to eat lots of garlic, green tea, turmeric, beneficials like spinach and will hopefully get some walnuts later today. Has anyone tried the larch? I'm going to see if local supplier has it today - I'm flying back east for a week long business trip tomorrow and I cannot feel like this!! Forgoing my usual fermented soy as well ...

Larch is awesome.

ARA 6 from DPN is very high quality. It is in the detox protocol. When I did that one, it calls for a tablespoon twice a day. I really rely on it everyday now, not just for detox. I'm sure others will attest to the same benefit. My GI tract feels so clean and regular. You'll love it. I rarely get headaches though. I can't speak to that.

Yes, I agree with both of you. Between the eyes on each side of the nose, just under the eye brow. I massage slowly. It has helped me in the past too.
