I am a 64 year old O nonnie and I still get acne. That is not fair! I would accept any words of wisdom about why this happens, and also things that have worked for the other people who read this site. Thanks! |

how compliant are you really?
mine dissipated once I healed my gut following my guidelines diligently
it has been so long since
up those veggies, fats, protein, legumes and grains and fruit
additives of any kind wreck havoc on skin
how is your sugar intake?

What's your diet like and how long have you been on the program? Which diet are you following- the O diet, the Gatherer diet, or SWAMI?
I have two teenaged daughters, and I get more pimples than either of them! It hardly seems fair, but then again, I've got years of "eating wrong for my type" to heal from, while they've been mostly eating right since about age 13/14. Their hormones are in much better balance than mine were at their ages and I've got a body full of toxins. It's understandable that I might have bad skin during the detox process.
And let's not forget about basic hygiene; I'll break out if I don't wash my face, but oftentimes, washing it once or twice a day is all it takes to keep pimples at bay. Lavender oil on pimples helps them to go away faster. |

Hi Meribelle I have been suffering from extremely dry sensitive, reactionary skin, on & off for the past decade+ Apart from staying away from all the things I've learned to avoid on the O diet etc, I would still have frustrating periods where my skin is better, but then it will break out for no obvious reason that I can see... Recently I realised, from researching, that I am actually fairly potassium deficient I had been told that a while ago, but had overlooked supplementing, focusing more on allergies being the root of my problems... However, having recently started taking silica, I saw the warning that it is apparently not good to take long term, as it can deplete levels of potassium & B1... That rang an alarm bell/reminder & in doing extensive followup research I began taking both extra potassium & a multi vitamin with high levels of B's... Have stopped taking the silica now, but am still taking the potassium & am not getting the "allergic" reactions I was getting & my skin is healing... |

Well, the truth is I am not totally compliant. I am cutting back on sugar, but it is ever present in my diet. Plus, I am again drinking coffee, but I think is an acne trigger for me. I do eat a lot of veggies, but I am eating many wheat and corn products. My weight is going up, too.
There! When you look at my diet it is pretty evident why my gut is unhappy. I need to stay on the narrow path of the O nonnie.
Thanks for the encouragement.
I need to pick myself up and start over again. |

Try adding some MSM (sulfur) coupla caps a day. /yellow goo inside of tomatoes helps kill bacteria on skin rubbing some tomato on that acne. The clear-ish liquid surrounding the seeds contains a lectin that kills staph |

cut down sugar, in all it's forms including wheat, potatoes.
see how that affects your acne for a week.
if you use sunflower oil or similar stop them too. |

A blend of Tea Tree Oil and Lavender essential oil is a very effective topical on all kinds of eruptions. (Of course, anything is a temporary fix unless the diet is right and the gut is healed) |

DoS are you sure you are not a New Yorker?
I know... my extreme sense of honesty has been coming back lately. I wouldn't have it any other way but people don't understand me at all. I'm not even a person that makes decisions based on logic like ever, unless I have too... But if something is true I'm going to take it that way. I hope for all Type O people to eat well but... When you say it like, "so I follow the Type O diet but I just eat everything I ate before" you aren't following anything. It should read like "so I heard about the Type O diet, will going on it get rid of my acne?" Seriously like what would the point of the diet be if it said eat everything? It wouldn't be a diet. The primary principles of Type O diet are no wheat, corn, low dairy, and then eat meat and vegetables. You can't be on a Type O diet when you only do one of 5 principles. Wishful thinking and intentions are not equivalent to action. You know what they say about good intentions, they pave the way to hell. In this case I'd say you know what they about good diet intentions, they pave the way to acne, cancer, and diabetes. |

Well at least she was vulnerable & honest about what she had been doing...& said she was needing to pick herself up...
Thanks for the encouragement.I need to pick myself up and start over again.
I dunno... something doesn't sit right with me... Just imo, it might pay to remember, that a lot of us still need encouragement, every now & again - not slamming...(even more so, when "relatively" new?)?! I seem to remember you got plenty, even quite recently DoS??!! |

I'm not slamming anything. I just said I hope for all Type O to eat well. It is just the truth that even she recognizes. Personally I think pandering to people that want to follow the diet but don't, is encouragement to pretend to follow it.
Meribelle is a Type O, she can eat delicious meat all day long, cooked up in things like peppers and onions. Then she can go exercise really hard. The benefits are there to reap and enjoy, and very easy to do. Take advantage of the how quick it is rewarding. |

One more tip about exercising- be sure to shower (or at least wash your face) immediately afterwards, before the sweat has time to dry. Sweat-producing exercise is a great way to detox, meaning that your perspiration is full of toxins that used to be in your body and are now sitting on your skin.
If you let those toxins sit there, it may be almost as wonderful for overall detox and healing, but it's hard on your skin. When unhealthy skin is a primary symptom, leaving toxic sweat on your skin will only make things worse in the short term. But if you exercise and then shower off immediately, the skin results are much quicker.
And it goes without saying that you need to "eat clean." You're unlikely to see results if you keep ingesting more toxins as fast as you can detox them. |

Funny you mention that Ruthie. For better face skin I recommend not using soap when you wash your face! It naturally has a light protective layer that helps keep toxins and stuff out but people destroy it with soap daily. It of course shows better when you eat your veggies, omega 3's, and don't have gut flora imbalance. |

I don't recommend soap, either, and I don't think Ruthie did. Even a good rinsing works wonders. Sometimes when I have been outside working and don't want to take time to take a complete shower, I will simply shower off my legs, arms and face with water and the feeling is magical!! Totally amazing!! Those old toxins need to go ASAP! |

I don't agree that's all you said!!

I still maintain that a bit of encouragement wouldn't go astray... We are s'posed to be (used to be) a caring encouraging community Some people struggle more than others - even mentally/emotionally - with the effects of addiction & the depression associated with weight gain & failure You are young, will never go through some of the struggles women do & not an O... |

I don't recommend soap, either, and I don't think Ruthie did.
Actually, I did recommend using soap. I use either castille soap by the sink, or handmade soap (from the farmer's market) in the shower. I wash my face once or twice a day. I've tried "just rinsing" my face and it makes me break out more. OTOH, it's been decades since I've used any commercial "face wash" or harsh, toxic soaps on my face, so I don't know if that would make things worse. We're all individuals. Sometimes it takes trial and error to figure out what works best. |

Didn't see where you mentioned soap. But I never use soap on my face. I'm lucky that I don't have problems whether I use any cleanser or not. Just for kicks, I used plain yogurt on my face recently, and it definitely is a very effective cleanser. Was it DOS that recommended it? I can't remember. Anyway, it works. I allowed it to dry and rinsed it off. Left a very smooth surface. |

No, I have never been to an AA meeting; have you? I don't have a problem with alcohol & have never really drunk... Regardless, I think there is a big difference in the sort of encouragement possibly needed by someone attempting to beat alcoholism... but anyway, regarding AA meetings - apparently only "about 5 percent made it to a year sober, regardless of whether they were self motivated or not..." AA Success Rate recoveryguy.hubpages.com › ... › Mental Health › Self-Help Groups Anyway perhaps if AA provided access to/education regarding the vitamin mineral deficiencies that lead a lot of people to drinking in the first place & keeps them there, they may have a better success rate, rather than offering the "sort of encouragement" you seem to be implying they do?! In any case quite a few people on ER4YT are not here so much, due to attempts to beat an addiction, (although true in some cases) but rather a lack of knowledge/education regarding nutrition...and encouragement to follow it |
