I started getting a stye in my eye a day ago. Its on my left eye on the top inner lid and is a mildly swolen bump. I have been rinsing my eye with warm water and putting warm rags on it. Last night I could feel another one developing. This is on the left eye too on the bottom outer lid. I have just woken up and the bag under my eye is swolen. This has never happened before. Normally the warm water helps. I'm wondering whether I should go to the hospital. If I remember correctly this is the 3rd stye I've had in 3 or 4 months and I never used to get them. Anyone have experience with styes? |

I don't think there is any reason to go to the hospital... If it doesn't go away within a week, then probably see your Dr. Other than the minor discomfort and annoyance of the sty, it is mostly a visual issue. As for repeated "infections", if you've ever had a staph infection in the past, you may still be harboring a sub-clinical infection that is now being attacked and removed, but happens to be "residing" in the eye area. It may help to adopt a daily saline eye-rinse to help keep the eye moist and any bacteria count reduced. Keep working to develop the proper flora balance in the digestive tract, as well. |

I've always used raw honey for myself and my family. It stings when first dropped into the eye, then feels soothing. I'd use a couple of times a day for two days and take a break to evaluate. Honey can be slightly irritating to the eye if used for too long. But it has always eliminated styes for my clan. |

Styes are infections of the sebaceous glands lying along the edge of the eyelid caused by staphylococcal bacteria. The first stage of a stye feels like a piece of grit in the eye, followed by painful irritation and redness. Finally, a pimple-like lesion forms at the edge of the eyelid. This will go away on its own, although it can be helped along with the application of hot compresses every 10–15 minutes. Boric acid and Epsom salts can also be used, though hot water often works just as well. Eventually, a stye will either burst or get smaller and smaller; the latter kind is known as an ‘internal stye’.

Yes. Your body is dealing with latent problems. This is a good thing. Cranberry juice, and cranberries in smoothies if you ever make smoothies. If you can assist your body in dealing with infection/bacteria, it will lessen the load your body physical has to do (the response you are feeling/seeing). You can also try nettle tea. Anti-inflammatory stuff can ease the affects too like turmeric, pineapple, ginger, and fish. |

I'm hoping it is just detox. I've been trying to figure out what could have caused it. I've been trying new brands of all natural makeup and eye creams. I also recently swam in a pool (water in my eyes). I've been eating avoids latetly and not nearly enough veggies so it could be that. Corn products and peanut butter. Being on the go gives me limited choices. I need to tighten up, I'm dissapointing myself. |

My stye seems to be the kind that gets smaller rather than bursts. The honey idea makes sense but I don't have manuka honey and would be worried about putting it in my eye. Ginger tea is cooling off. I hope it helps. Would putting warm water in my eye make this worse? I only ask because when I did that yesterday I developed the 2nd stye and after I did it again the swelling started |

I don't remember if I've ever had staph. I don't go to the dr unless I am really really sick. What is staph like? The saline rinse is a good idea I may start doing that. It seems like the left side of my body is weaker. I get the stys in my left eye, cold symptoms there, left nostril gets stuffed up more. |

Fresh tomato placed over the eye should kill the bacteria something to do with lectins . |

I think it's the white slime that's the anti bacterial agent. |

I use a spray of colloidal silver in my eyes and round my lids if there is any hint of infection, but saline would be my other choice and will help to reduce swelling. |

I don't get them any more but when I did I would apply Neosporin to it. Just a suggestion I picked up online. It helped heal it for me. |

I'm wondering the same thing. I've had a small sty in my left eye for about 3 days. It's irritating, but not enough to really affect my vision; it just creates a small blurry spot, but no worse than I'd been seeing out of my old glasses. I noticed it for real when I put on my new glasses Saturday morning and still had a blurry spot- then I looked in the mirror and realized it's my eye, not the glasses.
I've been rinsing with salt water once a day, after using my neti pot. The spot is a little bit itchy right now. I can't tell if it's been shrinking or not- it seems to shrink during the day but then get worse again when I wake up in the morning.
I don't have manuka honey in the house, but I do have some raw local honey I bought at the farmer's market. Would that be OK to use in my eye, even though I'm an O nonnie and shouldn't be eating it? Or would I be better off with a tomato slice? |

I just use a hot rag compress, super clean and wipe a little several times a day until it seeps. Clean rag each time and sterilize after (hottest cycle in wash and/or bleach). I like the tomato idea. I would be generally conscious of keeping my hands away from my face when I got them. Been a long time, but I went through a period where I had several. I didn't know it was staph. Interesting. |

I use a hot compress and apply coconut oil directly into the eye. I have used coconut oil for many eye infections on myself, daughter and pets and has worked on all occasions. It doesn't burn, only blurs vision for a minute or two. I do this several times a days for a couple of days for an infection, would take longer for sty. Daughter had to eat avoids the one semester she went away to college and gained a couple of stys and a weird purple growth in her under eye area. Dr. wanted to send us to a plastic surgeon to remove. It took about a month for the growth to resolve after she got back on BTD O. |

Yellow, actually, per Dr. D's suggestion. |
