I slept bad tonight- to be honest I sleep bad most nights at the moment I worry and think tooo much feel a bit sorry for myself feel lonely, broke- unemployed, " wasted my life" -40 year crisis" you name it. I never ever used to worry about a thing Always managed to sleep well so I wonder why it hits sooo bad right now. In the day time I am so busy that I try to avoid thinking... Lately i have used a lot of valerian herbs pills just to make me less active mentally at night - I wonder if that is ok or not?? Other thought how to handle my stressfuld life?? - I need to sleep well again Cheap options please;) |

The one period in my life I felt that way day in and day out was because of hormonal issues. Not a good feeling. |

Funny. I haven't slept well for the last three nights either. Valerian does help. Melatonin?? |

HB I got a product that has valerian (it also has hops, passionflower and GABA) and I don't like them at all. While I sleep with the valerian the dreams are to vivid, and disturbing so I went back to melatonin my sleep is much more peaceful now.
Have you tried taking magnesium? |

I am a bit hormonal as well I have just started last month using progesterone cream and my first month was very good; no pms at all- however I am not sure about the mental part. Magnesium? Maybe I should be better at taking it all the time Valerian- well I´ve got a product without any hops ( since I know hops used to be avoid for B´s.. Melatonin is impossible to buy here. I am not sure if I have wild dreams or not. |

This is just so funny, I got the Valerian, with the extra ingredients because Valerian alone is "behind glass" meaning you have to ask for it. Melatonin is sold off the shelf. Wish these gov't would make up their minds or better yet just let us make our choices. |

To "Hygge" my room as much as possible when it gets out of control helps my emotions! Do you have a hobby? Something to let your mind wander and visualize and come together while your hands are busy? Valerian is too heavy for me from way-back-when. Also, unfortunately cherry juice melatonin is like a heavy drug. But those melatonin tablets are "just right" when I use them. |

The other options don't work for me, but taking about a fifth of a capsule of Holy Basil is good day or night. It doesn't take much of anything like that to be too much for me! Bach Remedies are good but more expensive. Maybe they are less so there..... |

Henriette, I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties. Valerian makes me feel awful and disturbs my mind. It makes my heart beat too fast also. GABA makes me feel drugged. I love Theanine and take one a.m. and one p.m. Also I agree with Deblynn to make sure you are getting plenty of magnesium. Type B's need quite a bit of it especially. It might be helpful to start taking Fembalance. It makes the emotions easier and the body more comfortable to live in. How about some Bach Flower Remedies? They are a great support. If you'd like, we can explore some appropriate ones for you. p.s. just noticed that Spring already suggested Bach remedies. |

I didn't know much about hormones back then or I would have begun progesterone cream at that time. I also find that magnesium is essential and so are the B vitamins plus exercise. |

Benadryl 25mg-- or 50 mg cheap and will help you fall off to sleep. It is what is in night time cold medicine
Not a long term fix but if you need something in a pinch use it and rest. Life looks so much better after we sleep.
Embrace your life-- in yoga we do a pose warrior two-- one hand back one in front you look back and forgive yourself look forward and smile-- and then just be where you are without judgement. Love the concept.

Why would you take benadryl in the morning? 8 mg would not put a fish to sleep |

If you read the ingredients on the over the counter sleep aides you will see that it is Diphenhydramine or benadryl. We use it in the hospital for elderly people who need to drift off to sleep, works great. We do not use it on a regular basis just once in awhile. Ever think that maybe it is making you depressed by taking it in the morning? It causes depression because it inhibits the reuptake of the neurotransmitter called serotonin. Without serotonin, one becomes depressed. Something to think about. |

And YOU are the reason I have tried them!! Right now I am using some of the Aspen which works great for sleeping for me! One night I woke up and didn't want to get out of bed, so I just put a tiny bit (not even a drop) on my finger and smoothed it on the base of my neck. Worked like a charm! Thank you! |

Passion Flower tea works pretty well just before bedtime. I learned about it here on the forum. |

Henriette, when I'm feeling such as you describe and cannot sleep, I take Aspen and White Chestnut (Back Flower remedies). One quiets the voices in my mind and the other alleviates vague fears (I think that's correct). I keep both on my nightstand.
Hope you sort it out soon; I know from experience that lack of sleep is very detrimental. |

When my B used to describe his worries he knew he would internalize everything and then start to obsess.....he was a B-. He would even forget that a video call made him feel better.....until I would ring up, then a smile would spread over his face.
Maybe a nice Skype chat with someone here who can make you laugh is good! |

You've heard San J say how "lazy" B's can be, but you've also read Dr. D's book that says "B's are natural networkers." B-lieve that you are to B-loved. Maybe your creativity can come up with one small, paying job that is satisfying. And you like physical exercise in groups along with other people. |

THanks everybody Just writing how I feel made me feel better. I´ll need to look into the Bach products. But I am happy to report that I actually slept a bit better tonight. I did toss and turn a bit -I think I was overtired But I stayed on the chamomile tea no valerian no benadryl. However I do think I need to work on my sleepingscedule. I woke up confused at 9 I need to get back to a better scedule- cause sleeping so late makes it hard to sleep as well. |

It's good that you wrote to us. You know how much we like to share and help. Something else I have learned that is helpful to many heading into menopause is Evening Primrose Oil in capsule form. That's something to consider. |
