A little background 1st.  The last time I had a fever & ear infection was 3 years ago on 4th of July, the fever was higher but the duration was shorter.  What happened this time was I went to San Francisco Bay area for a week of combination work/relatives/friends.  I had time change, 40 deg temperature change, food, running around, plane ride, etc.  One of my friends was very lethargic the night she was making me dinner at her house so I suspect I caught something from her.  I was with her both Monday during day & Wednesday night.  I flew home on Thursday.  Saturday I went to a wedding & reception.  Monday late afternoon I started feeling dragged out.  Then my ear started hurting.  I was running a fever.  By Wednesday it was up to 101.2 deg F.  Friday I woke up drenched in sweat and my temperature was down to 98’s.  Friday night I couldn’t sleep.  Every time I lay down I started hacking.  My temperature Saturday was down to the 97’s which is normal for me.  I picked up some herbal expectorant to help clear the bronchial passages.  Saturday night I had the same problem sleeping.  My ribs are sore from coughing all night.

I’m flying to Houston for work Monday morning.  What can I do so I can sleep in the hotel room without coughing all night?  I’ll be flying and not at home, so it has to be something I can pack in a suitcase.

Sounds like you need a sick day.  Is there any way you can postpone the trip?  I bet not, or you would have!
It does sound like you caught something from your friend.  With all that traveling & various changes, your resistance must have been down.

Take care & keep us posted.

This worked very well for me and my mother.

1 tablespoon of lemon juice plus 1 teaspoon of honey plus a pinch of cayenne

The ingredients are all combined and swallowed; I think I drank water after the cough remedy.
I don't know if all the ingredients are suitable for you, though. My mother is type B, so I hope it works for you, if you try it.

Try taking over the counter Benadril to reduce the URGE to cough.. I found recently that I was really helped by taking Propranalol meant for anxiety.  I rarely if ever need such things but it helped with the urgency to cough all night and waking up all night and just getting tired of coughing. it is fast acting and reduces all sort of IRRITATIONS..

I took Trehalose Complex and found it really scrubbing my sinus.. I am hoping that it will end up clearing my body of all sort of stuff from repeated 'colds' which are seasonal allergy to Oaks blossoming, always lasting 8-10 days / 3 times a year.  Taking a teaspoon of LOCAL honey once a week might help to prevent getting such allergy attacks.. I will try that for the next year.

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

Sounds a lot like what I caught in February.  What worked was a product called Respitory Relief (nasal spray) and the liquid form put into a nebulizer and breathed; silver being the main component.  Try this site if interested, http://www.healthalertstore.com.

I'm sorry I didn't catch you when you flew into my town! Don't rule out low iron....some women's magazine had an article about loss of iron levels leading to coughing at night.  So make sure your blood has what it needs to have.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I’ve written them down & will go to the HFS today.  I did take Benadryl when I was on my trip.  I didn’t pack the Trehalose.  I’ve been taking it occasionally, but maybe I should try to fit it in every day I’m in town.  The cough is getting better, but it is still not letting me get a good night’s sleep.

Planetary Formulas has a couple of very effective cough syrups.  I used to be troubled a lot with respiratory troubles and found either of these to work well at stopping coughing and helping to bring stuff out of the lungs.

Old Indian Wild Cherry Bark Syrup
http://www.planetaryherbals.com/products/GP1623/

Loquat Respiratory Syrup
http://www.planetaryherbals.com/products/GP1863/

I used to keep them both available and often mixed them together.

Also, Dr. D.'s Redoxa is excellent for any respiratory issues like that.  It's not a cough remedy, but will clear out mucous from the lungs and help to heal all tissues.
