From time to time, I try something new in an effort to get off the plateau and get the healing process moving again.  Sometimes what I do seems to produce immediate benefits.  Sometimes what I do seems to have no effect, or even makes me feel worse (perhaps too much of a good thing).

Regarding the ones that make me feel worse, I've noticed a frustrating and consistent pattern.  I start on the new thing.  I start feeling worse.  I wonder why I'm feeling worse.  After a few weeks of suffering, I finally have a moment of cognitive clarity in which I connect my present suffering to the change I made a few weeks prior.

It seems like the first things to go when I'm ill are my cognitive abilities: memory, insight, self-awareness, the ability to make connections between cause and effect, etc.  Is this a type B issue?  How on earth can I avoid this in the future?  I just realized two days ago that the new supplements I was taking since returning from NC a month ago were keeping me awake at night.  I was taking them in the evening and moved them to earlier in the day.  Today I realized that they are almost certainly the reason why I've been so tired and lethargic since getting home.  Shouldn't that have been an obvious connection?  Nevertheless, it wasn't, and I've had this had many times.

For the record, I don't think those supplements in themselves are bad for me, just that I was taking too much or that taking them together was too much.

Hi TJ,
I can't help you on whether or not this is a B thing, but many times I don't put two and two together right away. Afterwards it seems so obvious but while thinking it through, there could be many reasons and sometimes it takes a bit to figure the right one out.

Just reading the forums and we can see how many of us are asking others to help us play detective. We are always supporting members and trying to help them clarify why things could be. I don't think you are so unusual.

I understand how you feel. This was how I felt continually before the BTD. I lived in "brain fog" land for a few years before seeing what should have been an obvious connection (easy to say now!).

It's never easy to figure it all out.  Don't place so much pressure on yourself.  In my life, there is a constant struggle between my control over things, and the fact that I don't control things.  If you believe in a Sovereign God, and even if you don't, it's obvious that there are many things we are not in control of.  Call it fate, destiny, chance, God's Sovereignty, chaos, whatever.  We can't make it all perfect.  And sometimes it takes a while, or a trigger, or whatever to teach us the way.  

I see what you're saying, that something that might have been obvious to you at one time, all of a sudden seemed to escape you for a period for whatever reason.  And you're scratching your head as to why.  At least you figured it out now.  Some people do things that hurt themselves and take a whole lot longer to figure out that they might need to change something.  I'm sure I've done it.  

I'm constantly trying to figure out what I need to do to get better and function, but it's also one of the reasons why I struggle with the issues of germaphobia and what not.  I'm trying to control everything around me, and it's just not possible. I have to learn to let go.  And MAN is that hard for me.

Thanks guys.  It's easy to feel "picked on", but you've reminded me that I'm not all that different from everyone else.  It's still so frustrating!  But maybe there was a good reason for it happening this way.

One thing that keeps me on track is that I  often ramble about my life on the Fresh Start thread. I'll mention dietary or supplement changes along with random stuff happening in my life. Even if I don't put 2 and 2 together, somebody else on the thread may notice patterns. I often pick up what's happening to others better than I see my own life. We help each other out.

I honestly don't think it's a B thing so much as a "brain-fogged, unhealthy person" thing.

I think this is a B thing. Having this blood type, I know how heavily my well being is coupled with my mental clarity. For me, it is oftentimes a "mind over matter" thing. I can think myself well. However, for a while now, I have not been able to do this. I discovered that I have a very sluggish thyroid. Aha!

I know we are particularly susceptible to viruses and these can wreak havoc on every part of us, as well a well-meaning vaccines.

i've wondered if it's a B thing also... when i am out of balance or unwell... my cognitive abilities go on holiday... along with my motivation, focus, and mental clarity. I'm sure they are off on some beach somewhere drinking mai tais and having a great time!

something that i do regularly (well... try to do regularly, i stopped for a while but i'm back at it!) is keep a food/drink journal. Although  mine is a bit more than just what i ate or drank. I also include the time i ate, i record my vitamins and supplements and when i took them. I record how i felt when i got up. I even record when i went to the bathroom and when i exercised and i what i did.

It does help... one of the advantages to being a B... i don't mind doing stuff like that, appeals to my organizational side. i hope it helps!

So I did it again.  I felt good for a week, and tried to bring a couple things back in.  I had discovered that astragalus, one of the supplements I had been taking, is not good for people in late-stage Lyme disease.  I thought that was the main problem, so I decided to start back on the zinc and the probiotic last week.  I started back downhill again and didn't catch on until yesterday that my current bout of misery might have something to do with what I'd reintroduced.  I doubt the zinc was the problem.  I've had problems like this with probiotics in the past.  My best guess is that there is a particular strain in this one that doesn't agree with me.  Anyway, I realized what had happened before taking them for the day, and today has been much better.  I was suffering maybe 4-6 days before realizing what went wrong!
