Hello!
Lab results for ferritin indicate 33 (22 to 291 are "range.") I also consumed steak (beef) twice this week and beef burgers over the weekend.
I got these results emailed to me from the lab (since they are considered "normal," they send them directly to me instead of to the doctor first.
I am thinking this is too low. Thoughts? Feedback?
Thanks,
Melissa |

Anything within the range is not considered low. Repeated tests outside the range would be something your doctor would be likely to be concerned about.

Lloyd, I know...it just doesn't seem very good...especially since I consumed a good amount of red meat, spinach, etc. last week. Melissa |

Lamb or mutton might be a more accesible source of iron. |

Ferritin reflects your storage of iron in the liver, so your recent consumption of iron probably would not be reflected in the test results. And with blood tests, it really is the results over a period of time that give the best overall picture of your health and yourself as an individual. A consistent value in the lower ranges may just be normal for your body. |

I am going to Buffalo, NY for a few weeks...my father shot and prepared a deer, so I have lots of yummy venison waiting for me. I am just imagining all the delicious recipes. Gosh, I love venison. That should be a good one (it's listed as a diamond in SWAMI) and since it is "wild," it has more lean meat and a higher concentration of iron, I am sure. Melissa |

This is true Kristin, I never have fit the "textbook definition" of anything. My body's idea of balance is not like everyone else's. Melissa |
